Spider-Man: Homecoming
(2017)

Another notch in Marvel Studios belt.
Amazing reboot, different theme from your typical superhero as per all Marvel Studio films so far.

The theme for this one is grounded, street-level and teen oriented; and wonderfully executed.

The acting is superb from the cast, but Michael Keaton is the gift that keeps on giving. His presence and facial expressions stole the scenes as per his acting signature. Marissa Tomei was a delight and so were the young high school cast. Robert Downey Jr was as per his usual self, he didn't hog the scenes but he complimented Tom Holland very nicely in their scenes.

In regards to the link to the other MCU films, well it was there but it wasn't over bearing, this film felt very separate and individual but with the rest of the other films lingering in the background with their impact to the universe.

I would say this film is EQUAL to Wonder Woman as far as superhero films this year goes. Both are amazing and well executed.

Who said Super hero films are getting stale?

Transformers: The Last Knight
(2017)

2 and a half hours of Loud Noises
  • Story is illogical, doesn't make sense. King Arthur knights with Transformers helping them? Merlin using Cybetron tech as Magic?.. What?

  • Human Soldiers die everywhere, but the main stars live even after being thrown around from explosions, puts the Avengers to shame in toughness.

  • A planter approaches the earth and no environmental impact apart from abrasion from the mechanical structures. What?

  • Bumblebee being around since World War 1? What?

  • Tiny Dinobots that look misplaced and useless? Huh?

  • 14 year old girl who was kicking butt at the start, although was dressed inappropriately channeling Megan Fox from Part 1 was uncomfortable to watch.

  • Great Special Effects though... out of the 149 minutes of movie run time I would say 140 mins had yelling, action scenes or loud explosions/noises going on. It was tiring.

Wonder Woman
(2017)

Warner Bros and DC's best film since The Dark Knight Rises.
Finally, a film that has the charms, likable characters, coherent story line... and provides good entertainment.

Gal Gadot is a great choice for Diana Prince and the rest of the cast were good choices also. It's not going to win any acting awards but adequate for this sort of film.

The strength of the film lies in the main characters and how their journey and story together were told, in my opinion WB/DC have failed at this with Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and definitely Suicide Squad, but Wonder Woman is a tier or two better in presenting this to the audience.

Worthy to compare to Marvel Studio's better efforts for sure.

If you like superhero films... go watch it, I highly recommend it.

Suicide Squad
(2016)

Only for the die-hard DC comic book fans...barely
Where to begin... The film starts off with an introduction to two of the main characters and an intriguing scene that explains the background of each anti-hero.

After the promising start, all hell breaks loose... in a bad way.

Story and plot coherence are out the window, in comes loud explosions, gun fights and a remarkably limited character development and interaction.

Technically, the film looked good, the props and special effects were decent and on par with other hero films, Margot Robbie was beautiful even though she was made to look trashy and crazy.

I have a feeling WB instructed the director and writers to ensure Harley Quinn had a lot of scenes and focus, they most likely also mentioned Will Smith and Jared Leto, because no one out of the suicide squad members got any substantial development or attention, minus a couple of forced scenes that failed to create any impact.

I enjoy films as a hobby but I also love comic books and its world and characters, so I'm biased and usually give good ratings for comic book films, because I usually judge them as a comic book fan first moreso than a film buff. But I couldn't help but cringe and shake my head several times during this film. The screen play was generally poor, the dialogue lacked substance nor importance or assisted in adding depth to the characters. The story, as mentioned earlier, lacked... and I'm not exaggerating if I say that the story is probably 8th or 9th on the list of "what to focus on" from the film maker.

WB and DC might as well have called this film Deadshot or Harley Quinn and it would of been closer to what was presented to the audience.

The good?, well seeing the characters from the comic books re-imagined in the DC film universe and I'm struggling to think of any others to be brutally honest.

Overall, it is a rung or two below Batman vs Superman and even Man of Steel. This film felt like it was made for the sake of putting Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Will Smith in DC character costumes... and thats it.

It's NOT as bad as Green Lantern, but I cannot imagine myself re- watching this again. And thats a big statement since I've watched comic book films over and over with effort. Yes, even the early 2000 Fantastic 4 films.

Avoid it if you are interested in watching a "good" action film that has acceptable storyline. But if you are a DC comic book hardcore fan, watch and judge it for yourself, it's your money.

(2009)

Thoughts...
I went to see this film out of the blue, wasn't hyped, didn't even know it came out yet. However I am a fan of Asian films, not hardcore as some but I've watched my fair share, also you can say I'm a fan of Daniel Wu and of course Jackie Chan.

That said, this film you can put next to Jackie Chan's more serious films, and without a doubt IS his most serious film in all his career, in my opinion.

The plot is obviously based on the Chinese people who "migrated" to Japan and their struggles and battles to establish themselves, mix in Japanese yakuza, turf war and old missing friend(s), and then to top it off depiction of human tendencies to be corrupted by power.

Analyzing the plot is time consuming and I don't get paid for it, so I wont get into it too much at all. However I do want to mention that it is a gritty film, it is violent, harsh but these things were necessary to set the tone of the film. Don't expect the usual Jackie Chan flips, martial arts, fun kung-fu action scenes.. no.. its more realistic that violence is represented by people chopping each other almost Kill Bill-esquire.

It is a serious film, well shot, well acted and the cast were well suited. Daniel Wu is good in it, although some questionable and real quick turn of character as the movie goes on. Jackie Chan is good too, the man can put on a serious face and act in a dramatic role when he needs to. I'm glad it was made for the Asian audiences, I can imagine it being only being mediocre if not bad if westernized.

If you want a film with a scar face esquire story/plot, lots of gang members fighting, a bit of drama, heaps of blood and quiet frankly a pretty darn good film... then I recommend it.

Its a 4 star movie for me...
