Star Wars: Visions: The Twins
(2021)
Episode 3, Season 1

A Grand Laugh
Wow! These episodes are absolutely hilarious. This one in particular had my wife, son, and myself cracking up. The anime over-explaining, with more talking than action. Spitting and fitting every classic Star Wars line as possible. No spacesuits in space for the humans but the droid had one!

This was a real knee-slapping side-splitter. Definitely worth a watch for the laughs!

Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne
(2019)
Episode 6, Season 8

Putrid.
How the fart is Dany's army so massive all of the sudden? The night king was truly worthless.

Dany takes prisoners after executing everyone else on the spot. They forgot their plot armor unlike Tyrion and Jon.

John "the war is over" Dany literally just gave a speech about how the war is not over.

Arya appears behind John. No unsullied or Dothraki saw her? Teleportation confirmed.

Drogon just leaves...ok.

King Bran the Broken. The Dothraki will be cool with this? Greywurm is just cool? All the murder is forgiven?

A comedic table gathering. Long may he reign...

Jon to the nights watch? The fudge are they watching? He immediately leaves anyway.

Kit Harrington is right, disappointing. The cast's frustrated reactions all spot on. This. Was. God. Awful.

Game of Thrones: The Bells
(2019)
Episode 5, Season 8

Dany Throws a Tantrum
My longer review was declined for being too long so I'll have to be more brief, I guess ! Firstly, "shocking" does not equate good writing. Seven seasons of character building are destroyed here. Varys is needlessly betrayed by his friend Tyrion. Jon continues to pander to a budding tyrant instead of trying to bridge the gap between his family and her. Euron's fleet is easily defeated this time around. The scorpion crews took lessons from stormtroopers. The golden company and Lannister army took strategic advice from the battle of winter fell by placing soldiers outside defensive walls and foregoing archers. Dothraki and unsullied have miraculously come back by the masses. The night king truly had no purpose or lasting impact. Since the very first episode he was supposed to be great and terrible. Now he is forgotten and worthless. The shortest long night ever. The bells ring and Dany poops her pants with rage. She had killed many before but those were deserving foes like slavers or enemy armies but never innocent children. Her snap to psycho came quickly and unwarranted. Her toddler rampage spread to the soldiers who have resorted to rape and pillage. Her guards never noticed Jaime escaped, ha! Arya proves once again her plot armor is invincible as she tells death, not today or any day for that matter. Hound fights Mountain in cliche bleh battle. Jaime fights Euron, who magically appears, and gets kidney punched with a blade twice but still manages to walk everywhere. Cersei gets a sweet ending with him, what? No...yet yes. The brilliant writing has been squandered. The plots, the characters are buried in the ruins of King's Landing. What a shame.

Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks
(2019)
Episode 4, Season 8

Game of Thrones: I am Speed
This has undeniably rushed. Starbucks, fan service, loose lips, a forgotten dire wolf, a rushed assault with a battered army, a toddler on a dragon who refuses to wear armor or outfit her dragons with armor, homing missiles, main characters dead to rights but left alone, everyone is able to swim, CGI budget cuts, and hilariously poor writing. It is a shame what Game of Thrones has become.

Avengers: Endgame
(2019)

Great Ending, Infinity War Was Superior
This was absolutely a great movie. Marvel seemingly can do no wrong, however this was not without its flaws. Time travel always muddies the waters and this was no different here. We knew there had to be some way to reverse what Thanos accomplished but I personally wish it wouldn't be resorted to time travel. The end result comes with paradoxes; cap fighting cap, even though he thought he was fighting Loki. That would still be a huge problem. I'm also confused about Captain America when he goes back in time and stays back in time to be with the woman he loves. I feel like him not becoming Captain America would alter the development of Shield at the very least. Additionally, the other version of himself would have to be running around at some point? Essentially he was banging his lady behind his own back, right? After giving Sam the shield (which is awesome, I'm all for it) wouldn't the other version of himself ask him, "where'd you get my shield?" Time travel was never my jam.

Captain America: my biggest issue though was him using Mjollner. Well, not using the hammer but rather the ability to manipulate lightning. The one moment where I feel these writers dropped the ball was this instance. Thor: Ragnarok developed Thor into believing and harnessing the powers within himself. Not even needing the hammer. This allowed Thor to use the powers of lightning by himself. Something I think Cap should not have been able to do because the hammer was not the source of that power. At least, that's the impression I was given. But his shield/hammer combos against Thanos was absolutely awesome. While I would have personally preferred the heroic end for Cap, I also appreciate that he got the peace and love he deserved.

Thor: Fat Thor. Much worse has happened to Thor before Thanos came along. His planet was destroyed, his father killed, his brother killed, his mum killed. Losing half of the people in the world seems like it wouldn't have as much impact on him personally. However, I have no qualms about this character development. It was fun.

Hulk: I am not a fan of nerd Hulk. Nothing about that was entertaining to me. It lost everything I loved about the character. The constant struggle with himself and inability to control his rage at times. Infinity War developed the character exceptionally well, showing that the rage induced side of Hulk was not infallible and immune to fear. While simultaneously showing that his human side has courage to battle his own doubts. Nerd Hulk was just, boring.

Hawkeye and Natasha: I've always liked their relationship. Their scene for the soul stone however, was one of my least favorites of the film. When Thanos threw Gamora over the edge in Infinity War, his sadness was palpable. It was extremely emotional and showed another side of a villain we usually do not get to see. Here we have a silly combat between the two that played out too long. I would have much preferred that whomever was going to jump to their fate would have just knocked the other out in a quick fashion. The other character (Hawkeye I suppose) would see Nat jumping off the edge as it's too late. The drawn out mini battle was too much to make the scene impactful, in my opinion.

Ant-Man: I love Paul Rudd and I love the character. His significance was rather downplayed here. He just shows up and has an idea but then he isn't really involved after that. I think Ant-Man should have played a bigger role in creating the solution rather than just presenting the idea.

Iron Man: The best part of this film and a worthy send off for the character. I liked everything about him in this movie and I'm not the biggest fan of his stand alone movies. However this was incredibly emotional for him, I love you 3000. My favorite scene was him reuniting briefly with Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: He shows up and how can you be displeased with that? He's there but not for very long but his scenes are cool per usual.

Captain Marvel: She's there. I honestly forgot she was in the film until she swoops in and destroys Thanos' ship. Meh.

Thanos: I am inevitable. He's awesome again. Josh Brolin is the perfect voice for Thanos. I was kind of disappointed in his end but we knew that had to come.

The females: I'm all for badass females and there are plenty of them in the MCU but the scene was obvious pandering to the masses. Again, really no harm no foul but it made me chuckle that they all happened to be epically displayed amidst the chaos of battle.

The rest show up for the battle as expected and it's awesome to see everyone fighting together again. The entire movie was paced well and I certainly cannot complain about how the movie ended or the journey to get to this moment. Again, I personally prefer Infinity War being the ending...but it is superheroes. The good guys have to come out on top and that is expected so nothing was lost with Endgame. I'm very interested to see where they can take this now. How many times can the world or the universe be in jeopardy and remain interesting? They'll really have to make some lasting impacts (I.e. death of Iron Man, retiring Cap, permanent deaths) otherwise it'll get very dull very fast.

Overall, a great Endgame. I hope the time traveling is finished though...

Game of Thrones: The Long Night
(2019)
Episode 3, Season 8

My Fears Realized
Well. It is with a heavy heart that my fears have become reality. In my review of episode 2, I proclaimed my worries about a cliche, cop out ending for the Night King. Years of buildup. Years of fearing the white walkers. Trounced by teleportation, a blurry battle, and nonsensical decisions.

Let's start at the beginning. Why are they outside the walls. She gave the horsemen fire swords, so cool! They accomplished nothing. Why did they charge. WHAT HAPPENED TO GHOST!? Why wouldn't they light the trenches immediately. Their strategist should be hung. The Long Night (aptly named) has begun.

It was so blurry and distorted, my girlfriend and I thought something was wrong with our tv. We turned out all the lights which made it bearable but it was still a haphazard mess. All the important people were miraculously saved just before their death. There was no tension as this happened literally every time. There were a few deaths to non-consequential characters and Theon was given his due. But everything felt cheapened. So many shots of the heroes in dire "no hope" situations. But when we pan away then back to them they're suddenly not surrounded anymore. Brienne, Jaime, Sam, The Hound, Arya, Jon, Dany! They've all got super powers now. Jorah literally teleports to Dany, saving her. Somehow her dragon didn't die after hundreds of the dead are stabbing and gnawing it. An undead giant is crushing everything until he decides he's hungry. Haven't had a snack in awhile, been a Long Night after all. Guess I'll try to eat this little girl. I could just crush her and not let her get near my face with dragonglass. Ah yeah nah, I'll eat her.

Oh whoa! Dragons! How awesome! Hey! The Night King is here, how convenient. He's doing some hit and run dragon tactics under the cover of some really cold winter weather. Great idea. Didn't do much...but it looked nice. He's fallen off and he's on the ground. Dany sets him ablaze. We all know that can't be it! Time to do something meaningful. Under the guise of dragon flame, let loose your dragon catching spear. Ah yeah nah, I'll just smile instead. That kind of, "I just farted on your pillow smile." Now he throws the spear. Oops I missed because she realized I didn't die. Come on, the writers knew they had to dumb everything down and "nerf" the Night King because there was truly no hope. But since they've surpassed the books it has become Disney's Game of Thrones. No one's ever really gone, right Jon?

Now to the Mary Sue, Rey...I mean Arya.

Arya finds time to search for a new library book in a scene meant to illicit horror but instead asks the question, why are we here? Zombies were doing the wave outside the walls and rushing full speed everywhere. We all need to take a break sometime. Rest those old bones. Hey, what's that? Blood dripping on the floor, we should investigate. Queue another handful of near death moments. Many of the undead had weapons just not when they could've killed someone really important. So they chase them into a back room and what do we say to death? NOT TODAY. They're trapped but Arya can fly, teleport even. We're at the tree now. Bran has been doing...something...useful? Sure. The Night King begins his slo mo walk of destiny. He's earned the right to take his time. He's been waiting and biding his time for 7 seasons to come to this moment. An epic meeting, some dialogue with Bran. We'll get a glimpse into the Night King's intentions. Then, like a fart in the wind. It's Arya to the teleporting rescue. So, they could hear her blood drip drip dripping but she can (I assume) RUN past hundreds of them? Lazy writing. Horrible writing. Games of Thrones, WHY!

The intense buildup. The plotting, scheming, and intelligent writing cast aside for cliche cop outs. Game of Thrones you were great. NOT TODAY! NOT. TODAY.

So. Conceivably the northern army is decimated right? Night King must have SOME impact after failing in the lamest way possible. And you'd think Cersei, as conniving as she is, would have someone reporting on what's happening up North right? So while they're at their weakest she would attack, surely? At least one dragon should be near death. In this time she's certainly devised a plan to fight dragons right? Sounds like an easy win to keep her throne...it'd be a shame if...some terrible writing...ruins everything.

Cheers.

Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
(2019)
Episode 2, Season 8

I dread what's to come
The show is trending towards a path I hope it does not follow. The first two episodes have been a bore but the first at least built tension. This was very clearly a filler episode meant to prey on nostalgia. "Remember that one episode where Tyrion talked about drinking and whores haha!" "Remember when the Hound and Arya were travel buds?!" "Remember when Jaime was banging his sister and crippled a child!? Good times!" Good times indeed. But without the help of the books guiding the show by the hand it's falling flat. This grand build up appears to be turning into a catacomb of overused plot devices. My heart sank when John said "we get to the Night King, that's our chance." I hope and pray the dead aren't defeated just because the Night King is the beacon that controls them. It's the easiest cop out to get a happy ending possible and John's mention of it has me worried. I hope the heart and soul of George R R Martin can prevail despite the show overtaking his books; good doesn't always win and everyone is vulnerable.

The last two minutes gave me a glimmer of hope. The Night King was not seen on the front lines. So, if he is the whip keeping the dead marching, he better be commanding from waaaaaay in the back.

Hopefully they fix the cliches set up in the first two episodes of this season. It can only go up from here? Here's to hoping! Cheers

The Haunting of Hill House
(2018)

Watch very little happen to a family full of buttheads
A show that began with a very promising start immediately turned into a dull, mind numbing experience. With the exception of ep5, this show had my girlfriend and I laughing and talking throughout the character's drawn out monologues and constant disbelief in each other as a family. Even though they all saw weird and crazy things, when it happened to someone other than themselves they dismissed it. They all lived in denial from their childhood to adulthood and their sister, Nell, died because of it. I cannot understand the high reviews because this was incredibly boring and not in the slightest way horrifying. The best part was ep6, when Theo failed to sit down - had a good laugh. By all means, skip this.
