Good test for Jackie Chan, he will progress with future movies...
As a mighty JC enthusiast and media student, I will give it a fair review. Jackie Chan is aging and obviously wants to quit the action persona that has made who he is today. He wants to focus mainly on dramatic acting and be among the likes of De Niro and Dustin Hoffman among others.

The movie was made three years ago and when it was announced that he was going to star in it, there was an apparent ban on the film. This was because Jackie Chan was playing a bad guy, in his definition of the bad guy. The Hong Kong government doesn't like seeing their main star acting out violently, having sex scenes and chopping peoples arms off. ... See more The pro's of the film are its gritty feel, the cinematography is amazing. Seeing Jackie finally kill someone without any remorse was a change, but he still played the 'nice' bad guy. Towards the end, he's trying to make peace with all the villains and it just ended up a regular Jackie Chan film. If he wants to change then he has to stop going back to his old roots. So I think he failed in terms of acting. Crying a lot doesn't establish good acting neither does sulking throughout the movie.

The ending was nicely done and was pretty sad, reflecting the rift between the Chinese and Japanese in the early nineties. Seeing Jackie Chan dying on screen makes you lose hope, kind of like the Death of Superman.

I feel this movie needed a fight scene because it was about the triads and there were a lot of fights, although it was done in a realistic way. If to say, the film was like Little Miss Sunshine or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, then action scenes are no no. So I think Jackie Chan chose the wrong film to NOT fight in.

As a person afraid of knives and blood, this movie will probably be viewed once, added to my collection and then watch it on FilmFour (when it comes on TV).

I liked that Jackie Chan is trying, but he needs to try a little harder. It's hard for him to change who he is. Imagine a world where Wayne Rooney decides he wants to be a ballet dancer. My point exactly.

Jackie has made three films last year, all with different genres. The Spy Next Door is actually a very fun movie, albeit it's for eight year olds and under. But Jackie shows a more caring side, really working well with the three children co-stars - but this movie has been overlooked because it seems silly. I think this is his second best American film (Number one being Shanghai Knights...Rush Hour doesn't even make the list). Then there's Karate Kid/Kung Fu Kid which is showing Jackie's true potential as an actor. But will it be a Mr Miyagi remake, or is a Jackie Chan film, or will Jackie use the story of the film to develop his acting? Then there's the film I'm really looking forward to - his HK film 'Little Big Soldier'. He plays a farmer during a war torn China, kidnaps a General in attempt to keep himself alive and hopes of ending the war. He bonds with his hostage and they end up being good friends, despite the war. Judging by the trailer, this will show Jackie Chan in his true acting performance.

Shinjuku Incident was a test, and I think it's OK. It's not watchable over and over, for me that is. Hope you liked it.

Wow, I have rambled! Az.

The Spy Next Door
(2010)

Excellent viewing for family...because it is a KIDS MOVIE!!!!!
Seriously, people are so affected by reviews of films that if anything comes out, it has to be the new Avatar or Dark Knight. The minute they hear Jackie Chan in a kids movie, they already hate it! What gives? Yes this movie is a kids cliché movie...but it has Jackie Chan in it! This man has more charisma than any other actor that I know of. Last year he made a violent dramatic film called Shinjuku Incident and now he plays like a father character in this one! Now that's good transition into being an actor! Anyway, don't want to spoil anything - it really is a fun movie. Ignore the other reviews because they are fan-boys expecting Jackie Chan to fight in Drunken Master III or Police Story 6 or Project A III etc etc etc.

10 out of 10 easily for me...and I yawned during Avatar!

Rocky Balboa
(2006)

Rocky fans will be delighted....
Sly Stallone returns as the humble character we all love! His character is very much like what we depict in Rocky and Rocky II which is a very good thing because it brings you back to the underdog story that we all believed in.

It was great to see old faces and new faces playing old characters that were minor in the previous films. I'm on about the character of Lil Marie (Screw you Creeeepo!) who is now an adult and has a son of her own, played by Geraldine Hughes. She was lovely throughout the film and I couldn't take my eyes off her for a second. She brings the sense into Rocky, telling him 'that fighters fight'. Great performances also by Paulie, played by Burt Young. I actually sympathised with him in this one because he realises that his treatment of Adrian was wrong and that he doesn't want Rocko to bring up the past. Great to see Spider Rico - it just brings in the nostalgia.

The movie is heavily based on dramatic aspects and not too much emphasis on boxing. Think Rocky I and II again...although there's boxing in them, the story was actually the important thing. Nonetheless, Sly Stallone was in great shape for the movie. The training montage and the boxing scenes just makes you wanna sream Rocky at the top of your lungs. Sly's performance deserves an Oscar at least. Throughout the film, you see him interact with the characters in different ways - be it angry, happy, joky etc - and he makes his point. He doesn't overact or act the tough guy - he's just....well he's Rocky. We all love Rocky.

Well im getting late for college....so watch Rocky Balboa. It's a must see for Rocky fans, you will not be delighted. Cya!

Superman Returns
(2006)

A Fresh Franchise in the making...Superman Returns!
I was a bit worried about people not liking the movie and comparing it to Spiderman, Batman AND EVEN PIRATES2!!!! However, when I went to the cinemas on a hot Coventry day (UK) i was completely blown away by Brandon Rouths performance merged with the awesome special effects to make us people (some people who are dumb too!) believe that a man could fly! I couldn't understand anyones frustration with the movie; I admit it did go along for a bit with nothing happening, but thats just a good build up and the subplot goes along with it to make a greater action packed sequel.

I don't want to giveaway too much because I'm tired but I'm sure almost all of you know all the spoilers. Thumbs up to Superman Returns and to Bryan Singer. Brilliant acting; Kevin Spacey was krrrrrreeeeeppppppy as hell and I loved it. Kate Bosworth has a fine a s s, and yes, her acting was brill too. Sam whats his name was the Jimmy Olsen I've wanted for a long time, hopefully he gets more involved in the second! Beautiful soundtrack: John Ottman revives John Williams classic and turns into his own baby! Classic stuff makes a good movie! Take my advice, watch the movie at least two times and you'll love it.

I would have given it a nine, but i want to make all the bashers angry, so i gave it a ten.

Jackie Chan: My Stunts
(1999)

Ignore Andrew Hernandez - he's talking a load of sh!t
This is an excellent documentary of JAckie and how he and his stunt-men do what they do in their movies.

lots of great clips and shows how they practise for it. Would have been better if the stunt-men had interviews and such but oh well...you'll be able to recognise most of them anyway.

Ignore what Andrew Hernandez said about Jackie taking his stuntmens injury in a joking manner - of course he doesn't, but the fact they've been doing this for many years is part of their jobs. JAckie has been through much worse as a young stuntman and strictly taught how to deal with pain.

Also about Ron - yeah, he is great but he had no timing to fit Jackie - WHICH IS WHY HE GOT ANGRY! Its not harsh at all, we all know Jackie is a perfectionist and he's said its difficult to work with other people rather than his own.

Andrew Hernandez also said that Yuen Biao is more of a success than JAckie or should have been. Well, Andy, its not all about who's the greatest fighter or the most flexible, its how they can pull it off on screen. Jackie made it big through mixing comedy and action on screen - he didn't flip and jump around the place for no reason, it had a purpose. Plus I'm sure Yuen Bio would treat Ron the same way so you're obviously a Jackie hater and shouldn't really be reviewing this.

A Gr8 movie! RENT IT!
Folks avoid the American version......if there is one! The HK version is so much better. Jackie Chan plays a very different role in this movie. I think its much better than the one he performs in Heart of the Dragon (1985) and New Police Story (2004).

Not MUCH action but the story is gr8 in my view. I like near the end where Jackie thinks he so close to finding the gangs hideout, only to realise he's in it!!!! OMG!! The music and the tension when he finds out, his eyes go wide and Ur sitting there thinking 'SHIT! Get outer there Jackie, and then u c the fight sequence coming' CLASS!!!!! Unfortunately, no bloopers in this 8( which is a shame. but then again its OK Cos it wouldn't be a very good idea to have outtakes where people make mistakes n laugh it off as this movie is a dark and true story of a wealthy man getting kidnapped! The trivia has made one mistake though! something bout Eddie Chan not having a relationship - i think they misunderstood (or it was probably me! LOL) there were scenes cut where JAckie talks to the nurse while she plays tennis and then he takes ova to take out his frustration. Also at the end where Jackie gives flowers to the nurse, talks to himself in the mirror and goes out with the nurse! Although there's no serious relationship, there were those scenes to build it up, but obviously cut for good reasons! If Ur a die hard Jackie Chan fan, like myself, id get this movie! If Ur new.....maybe this isn't the type of movie to begin with (try Police Story) This movie is a diff Jackie Chan so u wont be used to him in comparison to the other movies! My r8ing 10/10 for acting n exciting build ups! All together - 7.5/10 A MUST SEE!

Jackie Chan is still at his best! This time HK Style!
This movie is great! It's added to my JC Collection! Jackie Chan has come back HK Style and I love this movie! The only flaw about this movie is that the characters seem to overreact when Jackie says 'I love u' to his girlfriend.

The action is ....... Jackie Chan. Clean editing and outrageous stunts and fights! Jackie even pays homage to his former Police Stories by having a friendly bus ride (sarcasm for all u nerds) and having a cool brawl in lego land (which is similar to the shopping mall in PS1) The music performed by Jackie is great! One of my fav songs ever! I hope Americans don't get hold of this move - coz we know what they do to Jackie's films and they give him a bad reputation!
