The Trouble with Being Born
(2020)

The trouble with this 'movie'...
...is that if it landed on your watchlist solely based on IMDb synopsis - as in my case - you will feel sorely deceived and cheated somewhere between 5 and 12mn in. The obvious focus on the 'little girl' physical features and the heartless, cold and typically german tone was embarassing to the point where i stopped just before the scene where it is revealed in the most underwhelming manner that the thing is not a human, but indeed an android.

The biggest trouble with this kind of pathetic drivel, however, is that even after i returned to IMDb to properly inform myself about the film, and realized what i was actually being fed, some kind of morbid curiosity won me out and i kept watching, hoping that the sci-fi elements would soon bring some value to the otherwise unpalatable piece. And that was my biggest mistake... again.

In my opinion this is no sci-fi plot, not even trying to be sci-fi. It's just garbage about some tech which is not currently available but could very well be, as i write this review, if only investors and public demand were joining forces to promote this kind of sick paedophilia stuff.

Everything about this movie was horrendous and i found no redeeming qualities whatsoever as i kept skipping from completely dark scenes shot in a forest at night to bleak passages in the city where an old lady dies ridiculously for rejecting the attempts at intimacy from the ahem... 'android'. Finally i realized today how many awards this crap has received in film festivals and i just lost faith (yet again) in modern cinema in particular and the human race in general.

Yes pedophilia was/is rampant in society and yes it is alarmingly becoming normalized by the rich, elitist perpetuators and by such creepy productions and the incoherent acclaim it received in cinematographic circles. Apparently if AI specifically and technology at large is not used to monitor, control and supress entire populations as in China today, it has to be directed towards the most vile and basic impulses of those who hide behind the mask of artistic licence to allow perversity and depravity to become commonly accepted features in the world of tomorrow.

The only relief i get when contemplating this situation is to remember that i am neither young nor healthy and hopefully i won't be around for much longer.

1 out of 10 because negative votes are not a thing.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COST if you are still human.

'Independent' garbage remains garbage none the less...
I don't mind how much indie or low budget this trash really is, that should not be an excuse for its horrible standards.

TASTEFUL VIEWERS BEWARE, BIG WASTE OF YOUR TIME AHEAD!

The actors almost all seem to be forced to do it, zero immersion from the acting.

CGI are horrendous, no matter how low budget u call it. Smoke coming out of chimneys looks so bad u wanna laugh, not to mention CGI snow and other effects. I did not make it to the spiders that others have declared 'cheap' so I don't have to do the effort of forgetting them either. I had to stop watching after about 45mns and decided to write this review as an attempt to spare others the same ordeal.

Don't miss this great 40mn animation.
I just watched this movie and seeing there's no plot outline and no picture on the main IMDb page, I thought it was sad that such a remarkable film was so poorly represented here. It's one of those Japanese animation that has such a great plot that you just get drawn in from the first few minutes, only to be carried away till the end. In this case the end came a bit fast to my taste, the whole movie clocking at 41mn with credits. Well, better be short and great than long and... less than great. So in case you've been wondering about this title, simply stop. Grab it and get ready to follow Ryuhei, with a few online buddies and his unexpected (but resourceful!) young brother Sasuke in the not so abandoned tunnels of the Tokyo metro. You might end up discovering the hidden treasure of the Japanese army, unless you stumble upon Kazilla, the giant monster !! Very well made in all regards, I was surprised went it finished so fast. Near perfect piece of animation.

Sorry for the Chinese...
I can only feel sorry for the Chinese people fond of their cultural heritage. Donnie Yen's Monkey King was painful to watch. Specially the costumes were so kitsch I wanted to shout of annoyment: 'What the hell have U done with the 100M$ budget, fools!" Next and near as bad as the costumes, the CGI/special effects pathetically trying to imitate a bunch of various styles in an awkward way bordering the look of a college project movie. It's actually hard to believe that such mediocre production can be achieved today with that kind of budget, particularly since a few 'international experts' were working on this flick and anyone who has any idea about what these people could do with that kind of money will be bewildered to witness the end result. Finally, I have read from Chinese reviewers that the original story has gone very much out of tracks with this movie and it is a pity to think that such a classic part of their culture is being mixed up by modern 'story tellers' who have no respect for the very material they use to make money. If Donnie Yen wished to do one more take on the Monkey King, He could at least have respected the source material rather than releasing a distorted and immature production for the whole world to absorb, thus diluting slowly the accuracy of the original epic story. For one thing, if U are just someone who wanna take kids to the theater to see some Asian movie, then this might be working for them at the condition that they are under 6-7 or didn't yet develop a critical sense about movies. Hehe. I give it a 4/10 for some OK sequences, and I feel somehow generous.
