Fences
(2016)

Not for everyone ... but I liked it
I think many need to remember that this is a play being adapted for the big screen ... so it's unlikely to be driven by action. Rather, Fences is driven by the excellent performances of Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, and is also driven by the excellent adapted screenplay by playwright August Wilson.

The further you watch the more invested you become. Troy Maxson was by far my favourite character ... despite the wrongs he committed, I always felt that I could see a little bit of myself in him, which thus made me extremely invested in the story.

This isn't for anyone. If you aren't a fan of minimalism, or stripped back dialogue then you may find yourself bored. However, if you enjoy character driven stories then this will be right up your alley.

Jackie
(2016)

A simple historical film with great acting by Natalie Portman
As someone who loves history, I thoroughly enjoyed Jackie. For the most part, the facts were historically accurate as far as I am aware. I also really liked the score, I thought it was very refreshing and simply different. The film was slow-paced but I find that's to be expected with historical films. I liked that the cinematography was simple to give a real sense of the era, and the costume design was great. I also liked the ending.

Essentially this is a film where I liked everything, but didn't love much. The only things that I absolutely loved was Natalie Portman's acting as Jackie Kennedy. She really exuded her character and became Jackie Kennedy. it was great! The other thing I loved was John Hurt as the priest which was a lovely surprise.

Overall, this was a simple film but it wasn't daring. It didn't risk take like other films would and therefore in that regard may be a bore for some.

The Legend of Korra: Light in the Dark
(2013)
Episode 14, Season 2

Perfect ending to a somewhat average season!
I'm going to be blunt here. This season started off incredibly strong. I was pumped after an exciting season 1. However, the season hit a rough patch. Every show has it. And I just lost interest in the show halfway through. My friend encouraged me to finish it because apparently the ending would change the course of Avatar forever. She was right.

The episode that really picked me up was The Beginning Part 1. Just the fact that we were learning about the First Avatar kept me intrigued and as the tension built up and we hit the finale I was gob smacked.

First of all, we learn that The Avatar isn't just The Avatar because they can bend all four elements. The Avatar is The Avatar because they're part spirit. That is why the reincarnation occurs because the spirit with the previous memories moves on to the next. It is also why the Avatar is the bridge (anchor) of the two worlds.

We also get to see Iroh in the season which was SO SO EXCITING!!! And we get to see Zhao which surprised me. I'm happy to say that he deserved being stuck in the fog of lost souls the entire time. Better than dying if you ask me.

All in all, a fantabulous season although there was a rough patch and I have to say that the ending was extremely GAH!!! It will be interesting to see how Book 3 will progress from here. I've heard it's called Change . Interesting!
