Curdled
(1996)

Curdled cheese...
This film is definitely unique in that it's original. Quentin Tarantino produced this film and put it under his now failed Rolling Thunder Pictures. The film in its essence had a lot of potential and really had a great leading actress, but it had its share of problems. If your a fan of Tarantino like I am you prob. will rent this no matter what anyone says, but I would recommend this movie with caution because it just a mediocre middle of the year release that Miramax quickly buried under its large pile of flops. The special features of this film are the best part. With the thesis student film attached to the DVD along with an intro and outro by Quentin himself. Overall not much here but you may find some qualities that can be enjoyed by all.

Trespassing
(2004)

Evil doesn't remain long in this sleeper...
I rented Evil Remains because I saw James Merendino's SLC Punk and liked that film allot. I thought since SLC Punk was so clever, I bet Merendino writing and directing a horror film would be equally as such, not to mention a good idea. But in my opinion I my judgment was made premature. Evil Remains is a decent little horror flick when compared to most of the b-schlock that is out there. In fact after my initial viewing I found out that this film was at one time slated for a national release, but after the executives watched the film it quickly changed to home video. You see as negatively as I'm painting this picture for you, there is some decent acting with several fleeting minute's enjoyable slasher fun. All in all I liked this film but the storyline and ending really don't make for a great ride. But then again the films premise may have been made to avoid that feeling of a great ride. So in conclusion I liked this film, but if was to watch the film again, I wouldn't rather check out one of the great films that everyone has already viewed.

This Girl's Life
(2003)

Nice Portrayal of Porn...
I rented this film initial because I heard that this film handled the adult film industry as it exists, stripping away the fantasy and negative exploitative stigma that many previous films portrayed. I also heard James Woods gave a great performance in this film not to mention the thought that I may get to see some very attractive eye candy. And in all accounts I was right. James Woods does a knock out job in this movie and yes you get to see some very attractive naked girls. Not to mention a male full Monty scene that really goes all the way. I know it sounds like a cheesy two bit soft core film, but the story moves fast and the portrayal of a porn star is shown with insight and strength. The film is really about finding yourself and personal growth. The film did a great job of acknowledging its subject and dealt with it as it is; a business. The lead actress was also very strong, which is unusual for a film like this. The nudity may be sexual in nature but isn't really meant to be erotic. The nudity is used to add to the story and is never used unless it has a purpose. Where many films have attempted this, this movie that no one has seen or heard of, did a great job with handling this subject. Well written and interesting, 4 Stars! If you really want to see a good film that deals with the adult industry as it exists, I highly recommend this film.

Saved!
(2004)

Very unaware film that starts well and goes down from there
I enjoy films that spoof all types of people and if you're a Christian who can't take a joke then stop reading now! The people are easy to make fun of and should be, because no ones perfect. That said this film was very unaware about their subject, Christianity. I like many who commented went to the Christian school and saw similar things take place but think that making fun of anyone's GOD is a big mistake. It's just wrong. If you look throughout history millions of people have died for there God, not just Christianity but all faiths and to put down or deny anyone's faith, silly as it may seem is wrong. By doing that you dishonor all these lives that lived and died in the name of their faith/GOD. The message behind this film is really stupid. As it comes to the conclusion the films message establishes that God exists in some way or shape and that its OK to do whatever the hell you want in life! What the hell kind of ending is that? This movie was a total cop-out and pretty under-researched at that. Tell you what if you want to watch Mandy Moore dance around find another film with her in it...cause this one really is wrong on so many levels. Plus the acting is mediocre at best

Funny Games
(1997)

A Film only the Germans can get away with!
This is a film that only the Germans can get away with. I loved this film. Not because the acting was great or the shots but the story is amazing. The film is not rated but it is equivalent to an R rating. The film is shocking and I think that an American version of this film needs to be made. The biggest problem with the movie is it recognizes itself as a film by interacting with the audience. However "cute" that may be it does bring the viewer to remember that constantly so in my opinion it is not quite as effective versus non interaction. But the interactive ploy of the film at the same time may be what makes this movie so interesting. It plays mind games on the audience as well as the "victims". GREAT FILM.

Black Circle Boys
(1997)

Why?
There is a line in the Oscar caliber film "Spawn" where the evil clown, says "How come Heaven gets all the good fellas, and we're left with the retards?" That pretty much sums up this film. Black Circle Boys is a story of a kid who is depressed because one of his dumb friends fell 10 feet and broke his neck while they were drunk, so instead of moving on with his life, like most teenagers, he decides to blame the world. From there the kid starts doing drugs and hanging out with the social rejects who just happen to worship Satan. Despite my previous comments, Black Circle Boys is really not a bad little film in aspects of writing, directing or cinematography, but the acting mainly by Scott Bairstow, the lead, is horrible to the point that its almost funny. His mannerism and acting abilities are limited to the fact that every time he is on screen, which is every 30 seconds in this film, he reminds me of a schizophrenic 12 yr old girl who is coked up on speed. Eric Mabius, on the other hand, known as Shane in the film does a great job playing an eccentric Satanist and is almost too good at playing the role. Overall this film has very, very little rewarding value and really is not worth your time, though if you're a Satanist or would like to see what a blood ritual is, go for it. Just remember this film is sh*tty. And you have been warned.
