2012
(2009)

The human aspect could have taken precedence to excessive CGI
The premise of the movie is clear. The world is coming to an end and secretly governments (only prominent countries, not all) plan for a modern 'Noah's ark' to place selected humans and some animals to continue the life cycle post apocalypse.

Good premise and special effects. But the over usage of destruction and constant chasing, constant escaping by the skin of the teeth take away the human element which could have been used to the movie's advantage.

Example the character Satnam, or the characters from Tibet, the US presidents personal side showing empathy and the protagonist's father etc so on were under utilized while focussing on excessive noise, destruction, death, collapsing buildings etc.

If only they toned up the human emotion / drama to the story and toned down on excessive CGI destruction, this would have been another Independence Day.

Ultimately it is human triumph against all odds.

Papam Pasivaadu
(1972)

A child's sojourn in a empty desert waiting to reunite with his family
This movie, i watched in my early childhood (around 5 yrs of age maybe ?) and moved by the movie. No graphics and no gizmos. But audience felt the kids' journey and difficulties and isolation as theirs. I can still remember how many were crying in the theatre.

The attempts to re unite. The paper pamphlets with address and details to reunite, get torn in the storm and much much more.

How this young kid faces all adversities and finally re unities with family is classic in telugu cinema.

THough it is a remake of 'Lost in the desert' , which we are now aware due to internet, it never felt like a remake or borrowed concept movie.

Well written, stellar actors and this kid steals the show.

Makes you cry and laugh and live with him.

Super Troopers 2
(2018)

Overrated movie
There is nothing to deserve this high rating for this movie. It is typical super troopers, crude jokes, stereotypes and no flow of the story. See this movie if you dont mind spending an hour and a half of time and not expect to carry home anything

Balipeetam
(1975)

masterpiece well made from an equally well written book
Balipeetam - The pedestal of sacrifice.

Those who are familiar or have hear of the social hierarchy of Indian society especially early to mid 20th century India will be able to relate to the complex social segregation by caste/class and culture.

the leading lady of this film is gravely ill and in line with the Hindu religious belief , she does not want to die un-married and agrees to marry a man of lower caste so she can die as a married woman. However after the symbolic marriage, she gets to live and ends up in a situation of conflicts.

Her culture is at odds with her husbands family due to her indifference and intolerance of their culture and she returns back to her house only to find her people interested in her money.

Time goes on and after various turns in her life, she is on death bed and realizes what is reality and wishes to see her husband. She then dies in the hands of her husband leaving her children in his hands.

This is a very stirring and revolutionary subject not just 40 yrs ago but even today. This is the work of revolutionary writer Ranganayakamma which the ace director dasari narayana rao has filmed excellently doing full Justice to the book.

This film stands as a classic in Telugu film. do not look for entertainment in this film but also do not write it off because it shows our social customs and restrictions in a mirror for ourselves to see

Daasi
(1988)

Daasi - A directors dream on celluloid
No thrills, No fights, No comedy , No hero , no heroines ..What makes "Daasi" so special. THe directors passion . It is a work of art which, in this case happens to be a cinema. The culture of the feudal lords in the 1940-50 's of Hyderabad Deccan state along with the undercurrent of a woman's suffering were very well captured. The villages / lifestyles of that era were very well researched and portrayed . The nativity , dialogue delivery has also been kept to the original dialect followed in the Telengana area , on which this film is based. THis movie is not for all, but I would love to lay my hands on a DVD/Video if it is available . May many more works of art roll out of director B.Narasinga Rao's camera.
