Rogue One
(2016)

Like the super weapon of the film, it's flawed, yet entertaining
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is my most anticipated movie of the year and did it exceed all of my expectations? No, not really. Don't get me wrong, it's still an entertaining film, but it didn't quite felt like a Star Wars film. From the opening, it felt not right. We didn't get the iconic opening scroll as we have gotten with every other Star Wars film. But since this is a stand alone film, I can sort of understand why they did it, but what is a Star Wars film without it's iconic opening scroll?

The rest of the film is kind of a mixed bag of positive and negative things. I'll go on with the positives first. First of, this film looks gorgeous. This might be the best looking Star Wars film yet. I'm generally not a fan of the overuse of CGI, but CGI is near perfection. So that's already a big plus. The action sequences are phenomenal and shot outstandingly. With the two greatest action scenes been the fight between Donnie Yen's character and the group of Stormtroopers, and the final massacre of the Rebelions by Darth Vader.

By that I go straight into my favorite segment of this film, with that been Darth Vader. Vader in this film is purely a badass and the most sinister villain ever created for the big screen. Vader is beyond perfection in this film, so I of course wish we got to see more of him. Another great character in this film that was brought into this film with motion capture, is Grand Moff Tarkin. Originally played by Peter Cushing and brought back to live with motion capture. Unlike Vader, I wish a bit less of Tarkin. Don't get me wrong, I love the character, but after a while, you start to notice that it's a cgi face and not a real human being.

The films biggest flaw is its pacing. Although I found to be every scene interesting and fun to look at, the film felt utterly long. It made me wanna look at my watch for a brief second, but I luckily resisted. The characters also weren't as fleshed out as I wanted them to be. Some characters felt as if they had more story to them, but maybe with the re edits and re shootings, some of the scenes got cut. Therefore making place for other scenes.

So Star Wars: Rogue One is an entertaining film, filled with great scenes stretched throughout the film, but the final product isn't that overwhelming. It's still worth seeing in cinemas if you must, but I'd recommend waiting for it to come out on Blu ray or DVD.

The Walking Dead: The Well
(2016)
Episode 2, Season 7

We are off on a good start with season 7 of TWD
I was really sceptic going into this episode, probably because episode one started of with a bang. But I have to say, I was pretty pleased with this episode. It's not as good and as exciting as the premier was, but this episode was well written, well acted and interesting all throughout. Some may argue that the episode dragged, but to me, it was a good blend of everything.

I'm not on par with the comics, never read them. So it was very interesting for me to get introduced to The Kingdom and King Ezekiel. The Carol and Morgan thing kind of dragged for me. That's mostly because we've seen it already a few times before, but that's really my only grip with this episode.

So, yeah. I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with this season so far. Can't wait for the next episode, so we can see some more Daryl and Negan action.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
(2016)

It doesn't deserve all the hate
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Jesse Eisenberg, and tells the story of the vigilante of Gotham, Batman, taking on the powerful Man of Steel in a one on one battle to death.

I've waited long to see this film, for multiple reasons. One of those reasons being the fact that the film wasn't getting any positive reviews what so ever. Except the DC fanboys, who hadn't even seen the film, were praising the film as a masterpiece. But after almost a two month wait, I can say that Batman v Superman is much better than I expected and by far doesn't deserve all the hate it's getting from fans and critics alike.

So as usual I'll be going into the pros first and then the cons of the film. First of. Ben Affleck nailed it as Batman! I adored his suit and his entire performance as a whole. I'm going to say that Affleck's portrayal is my favorite on screen portrayal of the vigilante we've ever gotten. Although some of his dialogue didn't feel right, I still think he gave great performance. Despite those few lines. Henry Cavill was fine as superman. I didn't really had that many problems with his performance, but I'm not a big fan of him as an actor anyway. Jesse Eisenberg was ... Jesse Eisenberg. Except near the end of the film I started to like his portrayal of his character a bit more. I can't really say why. Maybe it's because he finally got his bald look and they got rid of the stupid haircut. Overall, I have to say that most of the characters are well fleshed out and written very well. Except for minor exceptions.

The movie is also visually stunning and beautiful to look at. I think if you saw Watchmen, then you at least were going to suspect a beautiful looking film. This is something Snyder does best. Making visually stunning films and I think he deserves more credit for that alone. The soundtrack isn't that memorable, but it has a few tunes that I'll be listening to again in the future. But that's Zimmer for you. The fight sequences look fantastic and especially the final fight between Batfleck and Superman. It felt like the fight sequence came straight out of the comic onto the screen. And that goes for almost the majority of the action in the film.

Now the cons. The editing and the storytelling in this movie is overall the most flawed. But if you're a Snyder regular, then you know that he has a problem with those two things in particular. Most of Snyder's films unfortunately have that issue and I still don't understand that he hasn't learned from his mistakes. You'd think after directing 6 other films in the past, he would have learned from his mistakes. But my biggest flaw with the film is the overabundance of characters. You don't need characters like Wonder Woman and Doomsday in your film when the title of your film is called "Batman v Superman". The title speaks for itself. It's distracting! I know they're trying to set up a new universe as fast they can, but why not take your time? It took Marvel 4 years in setting up a universe and they succeeded. So basically. If DC screws up Suicide Squad, they can say goodbye to their cinematic universe they've been wanting for a long time.

So basically guys and gals, have some fun. It's all you have to do. Batman v Superman is a flawed film, but so is Civil War. Don't try pick sides. You don't have to be a Marvel or DC fan alone, you can be both. And that is something everyone is unfortunately forgetting.

Batman v Superman is a gorgeous looking film with great and nail biting action sequences and fleshed out, and well written characters. It definitely deserves more praise.

Captain America: Civil War
(2016)

It didn't quite live up to my expectations
Captain America: Civil War is directed by the Russo Brothers and stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Robert Downey Jr., and the tells the story of two camps that get formed after another incident involving the Avengers. One camp is led by Steve Rogers and the other is led by Tony Stark.

Marvel's new highly anticipated film has finally arrived, and I'm of course talking about Captain America: Civil War. My expectations were very high for this film, since I heard nothing but great things from Critics and fans alike. So, is Civil War a comic book masterpiece? Well, to me it isn't. Look, I'm not disappointed by any means. But I just expected more. The movie is widely entertaining and the action scenes look amazing, but it never felt like there was anything at stake. This film also features another weak villain, which I think shouldn't have even been in the film in the first place. My other grip with the film are the few misused and thrown away characters. Characters like Crossbones and even Spider-Man didn't even had to be in this film. But none the less, I have to admit that it was fun seeing them on the screen. Now. Let's stop complaining and let's get into the juicy stuff. The battles between all the different superheroes throughout the film are extremely fun. Especially the fight sequence on the airport. Some unexpected and amazing stuff happens on that airport. Especially something that Ant-Man does is mind blowingly great. Something that Comic Book readers will truly appreciate. As I mentioned earlier, the action is executed very well and filmed stunningly by the Russo Brothers. Although the comedy wasn't as great as it was in Ant-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy for that matter, I still had to chuckle a few times. Overall, Captain America: Civil War is a fun summer blockbuster that will keep interested and entertained the entire way through.

Deadpool
(2016)

Action packed, brilliant and hilarious
Deadpool is directed by first time director Tim Miller and stars Ryan Reynolds, Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic, and tells the story of a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, who is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers. Therefore adopting the alter ego "Deadpool".

It's unbelievable to say, but Fox did it. They made the Deadpool movie I could only dream of. Everything was perfect to the last detail. From the opening credits all the way to the ending. I was surprised to see that they took extra effort in putting in all these small, but hilarious details. It really is a relief that I can say that Deadpool succeeded. I just had so much fun watching this film and the audience in my theater loved it too. Even the six year old in my theater loved it! He just kept on laughing and cheering. It was amazing!

Ryan Reynolds is amazing as Deadpool. The guy nailed it. From the jokes, all the way to the famous Deadpool characteristics. It was spot on. And the banter between him and Colossus was just perfect! I'm glad to hear that Reynolds is returning to play Deadpool in future installments. As far as I'm concerned, he wants to play Deadpool forever.

The directing by Tim Miller was phenomenal! Very impressive for a first time director. He inserted all the fourth wall breaks in brilliant ways. The action scenes were filmed stunningly and they were breath taking. I'm eager to see what he does next. Rather it be another Deadpool film or something complete different.

The biggest praise I can give this movie is that I wanted it to keep on going. I just didn't want it to stop! I actually felt sad when the credits started rolling. Well, I'm definitely going to see it again and my rating might go up a notch. Witch would make it a perfect 10/10.

Deadpool is a hilarious, action packed and most of all an entertaining film. You won't be disappointed. Also! Be on the lookout for a very hilarious end credits scene.

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
(2015)

I can gladly say that it exceeded my expectations!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams and is the continuation of the original Star Wars films that were released back in the 1970s and 80s. The film takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi and tells the story of a war between the dark and menacing First Order, against a small group of Resistance fighters.

The Force Awakens is my most anticipated movie of the year and of all time. I've been anticipating this movie ever since it got rumored. So I'm pleased to say that it is everything I wanted it to be. This was surprisingly for me the first time seeing a Star Wars film on the big screen. I got chills when the opening scroll started rolling. I was in awe with John Williams' score throughout the entire film. The acting was great and J.J. Abrams directing was excellent. Abrams used a lot of wide shots to show the action sequences, which was a smart thing to do. That is something that the prequels were lacking and a lot of action/adventure movies today. It was fun seeing the old cast back and all the little tit bits to the original films were fun as well. The new cast was amazing. The chemistry between to old and the new cast was so much fun. I also wasn't expecting the movie to be that funny. Although I've been praising this movie quite a lot. It isn't a perfect movie. My main issues rely on the fact that they use another type of death star. You'd think they would've found a more significant super weapon by now. My other issue I have with the film is this scene that takes place in the middle of the film. The scene includes these two giant CGI space-slug type creatures. They just felt artificial. I'm not going to deny that the scene was entertaining, it just didn't felt needed.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens isn't a perfect film. It has it's share of flaws, but it's the most fun I've had at the movies in a very long time.

Jurassic World
(2015)

It isn't perfect, but it was a fun, spectacular ride
I finally saw Jurassic World a hour ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I had a lot fun watching this movie and I wasn't bored once. It's also the first time I ever saw a Jurassic Park film on the big screen. I loved the Easter eggs to the original Jurassic Park (1993) and the way they used the theme song. I got goosebumps when I heard the theme rushing through my ears.

I have one big nitpick. And that is I was let down by the effects. The effects looked amazing but I was let down that they didn't really use practical effects like in the original and The Lost World And there was no Jeff Goldblum cameo! Anyway, the movie isn't perfect. Far from being perfect to say the least. But we go to the movies to have fun and great time. Jurassic World did that for me.
