Comet
(2014)

Underrated film that DESERVES your attention
This film is so beautiful and absolutely brilliant. It tells the story of Dell and Kimberly thought a 6- year relationship and across a few different parallel universes. The film sounds strange but it is so good. The cinematography is gorgeous and has a very unique color pallet. Justin Long and Emmy Rossum are both nothing short of fantastic and the chemistry is just fantastic. Unlike most romantic comedies (i.e. The Proposal, The Notebook, etc) the dialogue and situations feel natural where as in the before mentioned films, they feel completely forced. Sam Esmail is a genius. With this and Mr Robot, I have high expectations for him in the future. With only a 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, I feel this is one of the few times where I disagree with most critics. This could easily be the best film of 2014 or possibly even the whole decade. Don't just read the reviews and think you won't like it. Just give it a chance. It only makes sense for me to give it a perfect 10/10.

GATTACA
(1997)

Excellent Science Fiction.
I just watched this film again tonight. It's truly incredible. It's hard to believe that this film isn't in the top 250 of IMDb considering that most people who have seen it agree that it's a great film (at least from my experience). The film has excellent performances, beautiful production design and cinematography, a great script, and fantastic direction. Many ideas in this film are genius and gives the film a bit of a Terry Gilliam vibe at times. Nothing wrong with that of course. It's a tragic yet beautiful depiction of the future and the best science fiction film of the 90s. Kicks Terminator 2 in the ass.

13 Reasons Why
(2017)

Garbage. Plain and Simple
I don't understand why people like this show so much. I'm in high school and all I heard about for weeks was 13 Reasons Why. As a big film buff, i'm more interested in great films or television shows rather than what's popular. Eventually I watched it and like the plot suggests, I wanted to slit my wrists Hannah Baker-style. I felt as if this show was trying to be better films like Superbad or Rebel Without A Cause. There were some things I liked about the show so I'll list those off. Dylan Minnette gave a very good performance as Clay Jensen. He's given excellent performances in films like Prisoners and Don't Breathe but he really shines in this role. He dedicates himself to the character and pulls off a well-done performance. The cinematography, editing, and production design were well-done. Just wish they spent as much time on the script as they did the technical stuff. And there are a few good episodes. Particularly episodes 1, 2, and 12. That's it though. Kathrine Langford's performance as Hannah Baker was mediocre and the character herself is an asshole and an idiot. She says one of the reasons she killed herself was because someone found a poem she had written and they started sharing it around. Like yeah, I mean the guy's a prick for doing it but are you kidding me? She was upset at Clay for not staying around and trying to make her feel OK after her getting sensitive when they tried to have sex despite the fact that she was literally telling him to leave her home. I mean I don't know guys. Wouldn't you leave if someone was telling you to get out? I mean, seriously. Speaking of Clay he's also an idiot. He drags to listen the tapes. I was screaming in my head "Just listen to them all! Jesus Christ!" All the other performances are terrible and honestly some of them made Tommy Wiseau look like Orson Welles. The show was poorly written to the point where I was questioning whether or not the writers were even human beings. The show is also inaccurate to high school in the way the school works and by some of the characters' actions (particularly Hannah) and it forced a message that if you did or said something that made someone kill themselves, that it was your fault. It tries to guilt trip you into thinking that you were responsible for someone committing suicide. The ending though is also just awful. Some kid comes in and shoots up the school. 10/10 ending, I was laughing, it was perfect. In all seriousness, if you "caused" someone to commit suicide, you didn't. The only time that you are responsible for someone's death is if you kill them directly. That's it. 3/10

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
(2017)

This movie needs to die a painful death
I don't know where to begin with this piece of crap. I hesitate to call this a movie or film. And for good reason. If Alicia Silverstone wants to get her career back, she can kiss that dream goodbye after starring in this thing. After seeing this and Rings this year, Tusk has some STIFF competition for worst film of the decade. I took a bathroom break in the middle of the film and I must say that me being in the bathroom for three minutes was the best part of the movie. And I RARELY say that about a movie. This movie is horrible from start to finish. The "jokes" were cringe-worthy to say the least and it just pandered to parents whose kids were always on their phones. They have a discount Markiplier in the film and a knock-off version of Cheetos. Yet later they reference Mad Max (yes they actually said Mad Max) and mentioned Charlize Theron. So they exist in this universe but Markiplier does not? There's a scene towards the end of the film in a shower that made Alfred Hitchcock turn over in his grave. This film is horrible and does not deserve to be watched by anybody. Watch the Ghost in the Shell remake or Get Out if you want to see a good movie. Hell, watch John Wick 2. Even that's better. And I'm giving this one a 1/10.

Rings
(2017)

Don't Waste Your Time
This is one the worst films I've ever seen. It's scary how horror filmmakers today haven't learned from the greatest horror films of all time like Halloween or The Thing. In some cases they've never even seen them. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case as a matter of fact. This film had no scary scenes. The original "Ringu" and the American remake were both very good. I prefer the American Remake but the Japanese version is also very good. Especially in comparison to this piece of garbage. The new footage used in the video tapes is pathetic compared to what Gore Verbinski filmed. The trailer is also very misleading. All of the performances were awful with the worst female performance I've ever seen in a horror film in the lead character. Currently the worst film of the entire year and not competent in the slightest. 1/10

Ghost in the Shell
(2017)

Underrated Film and Certainly Better then Shyamalan's Airbender
I don't understand the hate for this film. I really loved it. In fact, it's my second favorite film of the year so far (#1 being "Get Out") While Rupert Sanders's previous film was meh, this movie is a vast improvement on it. Is it as good as the original anime. Not even close. But I like it more than GITS Innocence and the more recent anime films in the franchise. I like it better than many episodes of the stand alone complex (particularly in the latter seasons of the show) and it's certainly better than that thing M. Night Shyamalan made in 2010. I will definitely pick up the blue ray when it comes out and I'm giving this one an 8/10.

Fateful Findings
(2013)

Wow
This film is so hilariously awful. This is the perfect movie to watch with drunk friends. The insanity this film has is just hilarious. Then there's things that don't make any sense. Like when the girl writes in her diary "It's a magical day" and that's like the only entry in it. And then like 30 years later in the movie's time, the same diary pops out of her pocket. The acting in this film is awful with the main actor, Neil Breen (who is also the writer AND director) being particularly bad as well as this guy who's supposed to be an alcoholic but never acts drunk. There's a scene in a garage (no spoilers cause you need to see this for yourself) where the acting is so bad that I actually had the pause the film and calm down because the acting is atrocious. I give this film an A+ but only as a joke because it's so hilariously abysmal (like the Room). Just watch it.
