Fukrey 3
(2023)

CHUmatkar, that's the point yaar !!!!!!
The third chapter of the much loved comedy series lives upto it's credentials. The premise might seem outlandish to most, but that's what makes the Fukrey so much more watchable.

In the first outing, they took on the drug and prostitution mafia. The next time, they took down a lottery scam racket. This time around, they're in for a cause rather than personal gain or getting trouble off their backs.

Choocha is one such character who can make even the devil scratch his head or simply fall for him. Alongside him are Honey and Panditji, who can make even American Presidents look amateur when it comes to negotiating. And Lali, well his haplessness makes damsels in distress from yesteryears superhero films seems more like the protagonist's sidekick. And of course there's Bholi, who's a Jack Sparrow into organised crime.

Missed Zafar, sadly his schedule didn't permit him to commit him to this adventure, sorry misadventure :). In all, it was a refreshing joy ride.

Shaurya: It Takes Courage to Make Right... Right
(2008)

It's takes hypocrisy to make heroic armymen look like serial killers !!!
Had it just been another courtroom drama, I would've rated it 10/10 just for the sake of Kay Kay Menon's flawless performance. But here too, what he was made to speak in the climatic verdict scene, was actually a Factfile. Unfortunately, made during the peak years of the appeasement loving congress regime, the film displays Personnel risking their lives in the valley protecting our borders day and night as Jack The Rippers and Draculas feeding on the blood of civilians. Shocked to see Pankaj Tripathi forced to act as if he's working for a Neo Nazi hate group rather than an officer of the Indian Army. If in real life I ever cross through a guy who despite being from the Army is like Rahul Bose we see here, let alone salute him I'd rather address him by his name, even if he's a General Officer.

Table No.21
(2013)

Your past sins will follow you till the end !!!!!
Paresh Rawal in this movie outclassed even Tobin Bell's iconic John Kraemer aka The Jigsaw Killer from the SAW franchise. He appears to be an everybody, but deep beneath he pocesses a truthful, even if deranged, sense of justice. Rajiv Khandelwal was good but got overshadowed, in fact he looked sumwat artificial in the college sequences however made up for them with the events from the present. Desae is ok, but her role I guess could've been played by a seasoned actress better.

Nevertheless, the movie was brilliant. And the topic of ragging and it's psychological consequences are to be taken into note by everyone, whether kids or senior citizens.

The Sword of Tipu Sultan
(1990)

The facade of tipu sultan
A man fighting merely to keep his tiny kingdom independent of british influence is made into a freedom fighter of national significance. A man who had made it his life's mission to eliminate "infidels" is displayed as genuinely secular and as race blind as Lincoln.

John Ford had once said "Once a legend becomes fact, PRINT IT". And tipu sultan's actual legend lay only in the mass massacres he committed across the western coast of present day Karnataka, Kerela and occasionally Maharashtra.

Selling lies to people doesn't solely lay a cinematic responsibility I guess, television does it's part too.

Prince
(2010)

There's something KOOKIE about that GULATI.
In 2004, Vivek Oberoi accused Salman Khan of calling him overnight 40 times and gave death threats coupled with abusive language. After this movie, the number of such calls and messages to Vivek quadrupled, but from the public. Similar was the case with the rest of the cast, thats why they've been underground since, perhaps. I've even heard Vivek was "accidentally" pelted with rotten egg peels. Is it so ? Can someone clarify.

Boom
(2003)

Arguably Katrina's most "natural" performance as of date(lol)
Had they just replaced the M in the title with a B, this featurette would've been the greatest masterpiece in cinematic history. Storyline isn't that bad. Performance wise, Javed Jaffrey and Seema Biswas stand out from the rest but the surprise package is that Katrina Kaif was doing "method acting" on her debut. As Javed Jaffrey narrates her biography "you still don't understand the difference between your brain and your boobs", who knew he was predicting her prowess which remain consistent even after being nearly 20 years in the industry. Madhu Sapre is decent, but a bit too aggressive at times.

I request the makers to put the original format of the movie for streaming. It was awesome.

Karan Arjun
(1995)

Haters will disagree, but this was Salman's show.
The reincarnation-revenge formula might be dated and seemed good if restricted to Subhash Ghai's cult classic KARZ(1980). But Rakesh Roshan being the craftsman of action-dramas he's been all these years utilised the limitations to optimum effect.

In regards to performances, Rakhee Gulzar was, well Rakhee Gulzar. Amrish Puri and Ranjeet prove it effortlessly why they're the most feared and revered villains in Bollywood history. The comic duo of Ashok Saraf and Johnny Lever was indeed effective. Kajol and Mamta Kulkarni don't get much screen time as such.

The marquee of this movie is that it remains Shahrukh and Salman Khan's only film till date. While the former had established himself as an actor of note with his resume reading KABHI HAA KABHI NAA, DARR and BAAZIGAR, Salman was considered more of a mass entertainer, although he had received acclaim for MAINE PYAR KIYA, BAAGHI and PATTHAR KE PHOOL. But this movie belonged to him start to finish, call it toughness which came a bit more naturally to him and was visible in non-action scenes as well.

In all the movie is a one time watch.

Clerk
(1989)

Kyunki main c*****a hoon !!!!!
Undoubtedly this movie is a once in a millennium masterpiece. My Dad happens to be a cardiologist and I'll recommend this movie to him. ISME POINT HAI. How else can one cure heart attacks by simply playing songs on a taperecorder. Besides, cigarettes and alcohol are to be put on a higher priority than food.

Manoj Kumar was without a shadow of doubt trying to give Dev Anand an identity crisis by playing a college student aged 52. But he has the right to do so, AAKHIR MAIN EK CLERK HOON !!!!

HaHaHaHaHaHa.......

Awwal Number
(1990)

Don't listen to typical anti-Dev Anand critics
This movie was made at a time when cricket was gaining commercial momentum in India. Disputes inside the dressing room were a daily affair. It indirectly also encompassed issues of the day be it Indian Military involvement in Sri Lanka, be it a global cabal of shady figures involved in political scandals. Call it coincidence, barely 2 years later ex-PM Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by LTTE, which formed the core of this movie's summary and his portrait can be seen in the Minister's office.

There are some who're asking how come Dev Anand, an ex-IPS in the film, got appointed as President of BCCI. Well, KPS Gill was head of the FIH, Dr. Ali Bacher was chairperson of the South African Cricket Board. And Dev Anand did his part fairly well.

Aditya Pancholi was rightly cast as the reigning but spoilt brash batting star who'll definitely remind people of Virat Kohli. Aamir Khan was good as a rookie who becomes a national hero overnight, reminding of Wasim Akram albeit with the bat.

Most importantly, it's fictional yet seems very real. BCCI is called out by its name, so are teams and legends like Sir Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar, unlike other recent sporting melodramas which take too much liberty and create a parallel universe altogether.

Songs were out of place, unlike classic Dev Anand movies from the 50s, 60s and 70s. But the plot was comprehensive enough.

A one time watch.

Sanju
(2018)

One film, too many lies !!!!!!
Bollywood has always been fascinated with disgraced characters who in the light of the circumstances simply got away. It started with AZHAR(2015), despite that Mohammad Azharuddin confessed to match-fixing but producers made a martyr out of him. And now comes our very Sanju Baba, whose drug addiction as per his fans is a style statement, whose illegal pocession of pistols, bombs and machine guns makes him a Stallone/Schwarzenegger themed action hero, in whose opinion it's the media which made a terrorist out of him despite his own revelations of having hidden explosives at his beach house which were pivotal in the '93 bombings. The movie directly jumps to Manyata Dutt, played by a zombie Dia Mirza, skipping Richa Sharma who as Dutt's first wife and mother of his daughter Trishla bore the brunt of his antiques, him stalking Tina Munim or dating Madhuri Dixit during the making of SAJAN and KHALNAYAK. Raju Hirani has become habitual of just scripting movies as he deems them convenient, sacrificing realities visible even to the naked eye. When the foundations are such, evaluating performances of the leads are a distant issue altogether.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan
(2012)

Tumme Jab tak hai jaan, please don't see Jab Tak Hai Jaan
I find this movie very inspirational indeed. I too am 30, I don't like my job, fortunately I don't have a zombie girlfriend. Sorry, zombies too have feelings. Calling Katrina a zombie in this movie is an insult to their kind. So, for a career hike, why don't I just conscript into the Army and since I have a post graduate degree, surely they'll appoint me as a Colonel rather than a Major. Had the great Baldev Raj Chopra been alive and seen this miracle, Yash Ji would've been found murdered for sure rather than dying of dengue.

Mission Istaanbul: Darr Ke Aagey Jeet Hai!
(2008)

Mission made audiences INSTA-FOOL
I am sure Vivek Oberoi had time travelled to the future to make this movie and stayed till it's premier. What he forgot was not recording the death threats and abuses he received post this movie, took it back to 2003-04 and mistook it to be Salman's and alas the press conference. The kind of journalism in the movie is such, even people anti of NDTV will call it sensible and vice versa in regards to Republic TV. Hopefully, Zayed Khan wouldn't try playing a nuclear scientist in his next. Else, it'll indeed bring apocalypse, doomsday blah blah. The villains seemed as if they had just walked out of a mental asylum rather than acting school, or was it the prospect of them getting beaten by Zayed and Vivek despite being more intimidating which drove them to depression ? Who knows.

Luck
(2009)

Replacing the L with an F would be your reaction for the movie altogether
World knows Imran Khan is a horrible actor. But why does he want to prove it to the world with the worst possible manner ? Shruti Hasan's Hindi is just as great as her father's(pun intended), no big deal. But did she read the script as if it was a zombie movie ? And of course, there's Sanjay Dutt. I get the feeling this movie was made to give incumbent captain of the Indian Cricket Team an identity crisis.

No Time to Die
(2021)

When we reach the end of the road, there's NO TIME TO DIE !!!!!
2 and a half years in the wait had left a lot of desperation, anxiety, even suspicions whether this movie would see the light of the day in a theatre. And the wait proved fruitful, just Bond's nemesis' plots over the years. There couldn't have been a better send off to the best actor(since Sir Sean Connery and Timothy Dalton) to portray the world's greatest superspy and perhaps Britain's greatest cultural icon. Some might call it melodrama filled with irrelevant exchanges, but they are the genuine visualization of Fleming's 007, forever looking in all directions if a sniper is gonna take him out any instant.

When Craig was announced as the rebooted 007, people were asking "why ?". Today when he walks off into a golden sunset of his Bond saga, Bond fans would surely ask "we thought there's NO TIME TO DIE !!!!"

Mehndi
(1998)

Can't stop laughing despite the serious topic
It's often said B-movies are the best training grounds for the future generation cinematic greats. Look at Jack Nicholson or Francis Ford Coppola. This movie's just the kind of exposure Rani Mukherjee must've required. Be it the Kheer with dog's urine, be it the constable who keeps reminding his superior that actor Arjun's character is a transevite and the Inspector's name is Bhishma, Pramod Moutho's haplessness(Har baat ghoom phir kar mere upar hi kyun aati hai ?) or Himani Shivpuri's abusive delivery. Shakti Kapoor's signature shamelessness add more to the comedy. Must watch.

Krishna Cottage
(2004)

When will I hear Ekta CAUGHT-AGE ????
A group of dumb adults, old enough to have graduated at least 10 years ago, are still in college. Understandable as far as Sohail Khan is concerned. Suffered too many year-downs maybe. Anita Hasanandani speaks in a manner proving she's still suffering from hangover of her soap operas while the rest of the troupe rather than murdering her just keep listening. Enter Isha Koppikar as a demonic spirit, admitted to the college in mid session, maybe has a few backlogs to clear from her past incarnation. Wherever a mysterious book goes, it spells doom, be it for its transport be it for its reader. It can very well be assumed the book is actually the movie's script. Despite being multi-talented, years of sabbatical have forced poor Rati Agnihotri to work as a call centre between spirits and humans, some of the dead might've surely complained why Sohail Khan took acting.

Key takeaways from the movie: Anita Hasanandani should attend a speech therapist, Isha Koppikar no matter how brain dead should refrain from ever playing the dead again and Sohail Khan should visit the lavatory before facing the camera or perhaps accept roles where he's to play deaf, dumb and mute combined, it'll be tough but he can try for audience sake.

High Noon
(1952)

Simple, powerful, unforgettable.........
They often say John Wayne was the epitome of All-American Heroism. They were wrong. Gary Cooper as Marshall Will Kane is unarguably the greatest American Hero of all time. It may take guts to take on killers & hard-edged criminals. But it takes character to stand up against evil, when nobody else can possibly think about it. Wish people had the guts to stand against Joe Mcarthy the same manner.

Made at the peak of the Blacklisting era, I don't care what conservatives thought about this movie. But people who GENUINELY believe in ideals of humanity, for them its indeed the movie of a lifetime. Afterall, there is nothing more exciting than the high adventure of HIGH NOON.
