Ozark
(2017)

Disappointed by season 4
I absolutely loved the first three seasons! But Season 4 wasn't great, in my opinion. Any scene involving the cartel was uninteresting to me, I truly didnt care about any of those subplots. Marty, my favorite character, became so bland and passive. Regarding the cinematography, the shots are still beautiful but the blue/green filter got out of hand and gave me headaches. It was a struggle to finish the show, but I still wanted to know how it ended. I would've preferred Marty and Wendy dying, and Ruth, Charlotte and Jonah starting over together, somewhere far away, making use of their whiz. I might still rewatch the first three seasons in the future.

Sharp Objects
(2018)

The final twist was the best part
I thought I had it figured out from the first few episodes, but the final (FINAL) twist got me. I really hadn't seen it coming and I added an extra star to my rating just for that. The cinematography is gorgeous. On the negative side, it is super repetitive. The flashbacks, the rollerblading, the alcohol, the conversations about how much they hate that town... it depicts a really good picture of the life in Wind Gap, you really get the vibe so props to them for that, but it truly is boring at times for the viewer, and this is coming from a person who usually enjoys slow-burners. I didn't really care for any of the characters. The step-father genuinely gave me the creeps though, his character is one of the most believable of the show.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
(2016)

Green screens and no soul
As a fan of the HP books and movies, this prequel did nothing for me. The female protagonist has zero charisma and Colin Farrel is a total miscast. Eddie Redmayne has proven himself to be a great actor but his performance here is just flat. Most of the movie is obvious green screens and mediocre CGI. This movie has no soul.

Mad Men
(2007)

Outstanding (and one tiny criticism)
Gorgeous decor and costumes. Fabulous acting. John Slattery and Christina Hendricks were the highlight for me, they're simply outstanding. I'm removing one star because, even though I understand that it is inherent to his character, Jon Hamm's new "love" interests and sex scenes in every episode were extremely repetitive. After a few seasons, it got a bit boring, I already knew these women characters wouldn't add much to the plot (except for one major one), therefore I couldn't get invested in those moments, I just wanted to fast forward through the scenes in order to go back to the actual, interesting intrigue. Overall an amazing show. I will watch it again because there is a lot of symbolism that I probably didn't catch the first time around.

Nine Perfect Strangers
(2021)

McCarthy, Cannavale and Shannon save the show
The first half of the series was intriguing, but the second half dragged. The tripping scenes involving Zoe and her family were extremely repetitive. The millionaire character (I can't even recall his name) was underdeveloped in comparison to the other ones. The highlight of the show was the relationship between McCarthy (glowing!) and Cannavale. Shannon is an impressive actor and I'm eager to discover more of his work. I didn't care for Kidman's character, I wish they had abandoned her Russian origins backstory even though it's in the book, because I couldn't buy it and it was distracting. Evans did his best with the little substance they gave him to work with. The location is gorgeous and is a character of its own. 7/10 for McCarthy, Cannavale and Shannon's performances.

Just one critic
I don't really understand the point of the cop subplot... Otherwise I had a blast watching this show, loved the cinematography, and the main actor is great.

The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun
(2021)

Too much.
I like Wes Anderson a lot, but this one was just too Wes Anderson-y.

That's all I have to say about this movie, except that it looked beautiful as always.

Clickbait
(2021)

Some good, some bad
If the police had checked the metadata in episode 1, we wouldn't have needed an episode 2. Let alone 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. I don't know what the cyber criminal department was up to this whole time. A physical therapist/volleyball coach and some teenagers found out more than them. Sure, okay.

This young, hip dad gives out his password and access to all his personal photos to this random new colleague on his first day because he's "bad with that computer stuff", and we're supposed to believe that this senior lady isn't? That she happens to be a photoshop genius who fools the (granted: useless) cyber criminal department? However, she doesn't fool the dad who was supposed to be bad at that computer stuff? That arc is just all over the place... It's obvious that the last twist wasn't well thought out by the writers and completely rushed, leading to absurd scenes like this one.

I liked the fact that each episode was following a different person. My favorite was the one with the reporter.

I tought the performances of the wife, the reporter and the cop were good.

It still was interesting enough for me to keep watching until the end, I thought I had fun trying to figure out who the killer was but I was obviously wrong every time since it was literally impossible to see it coming before the reveal. I guess I would have been disappointed if it had been the other coach, but I wish the final plot twist had been better crafted.

Maid
(2021)

I didn't expect it to be so good
This miniseries got me hooked. The characters were greatly written, not caricatural for one bit (I was scared the mother was going to be too cliché but I ended up buying her character). I often thought I had the rest of the show figured out but nope, it wasn't predictable at all. Honestly a great surprise.

Little Fires Everywhere
(2020)

I liked it until it became too black and white
I really enjoyed the first part of show, when it was still not all black or white, when I could understand both points of view on their respective way of life and on the whole baby situation. But then, they turned one of the main two protagonist into a complete villain, and the show lost its depth. Also, after all that Elena went through regarding the baby situation, I don't understand why her cop friend would blame the fire on Izzy. She's never shown any dangerous or illegal behavior, whereas the Chinese mom was perceived by many as hysteric and unstable. I'm still rating it 8/10 because I binged it in a few days, it was very well made and the acting was great.

Kastanjemanden
(2021)

The first 4 episodes were great...
... but the reveal in episode 5 fell flat for me. I found the killer caricatural, which is too bad because the rest of the characters were pretty good in my opinion. Episode 6 was just a quick action-packed wrap-up of the series. Overall I was disappointed by the ending.

Halloween
(1978)

Extremely hard to stay interested
I understand and appreciate what Halloween set for the next generations of horror movie-making, but this movie just didn't age well. It's extremely hard to stay interested, the editing isn't good, and the characters and the villain just fall flat. The movie being made in the 70s doesn't justify it. The Texas Chainsaw Massace is even older, yet it is one of the best movie ever made and is still holding up perfectly in 2021.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things
(2020)

I understand why some people liked it...
I like to consider myself an open-minded person. I can enjoy slow-burn, unconventional movies with lenghty scenes and obscure dialogue. I've loved some movies that were reviewed here as snooty, artsy garbage before. However, this one really challenged me to not just turn it off and put Friends on instead. The length of the second car conversation just became unbearable. I HAD to skip the last 20 minutes of it. I was actually ready to miss some potential crucial information or plot twist, as it had become so painful to endure. The singing scene was also a challenge to get through. I understand what the director was going for, I appreciated the acting and some of the beautiful shots. I was into the initial plot and enjoyed trying to come up with some theories, but some of the directing and editing choices were deal breakers to me. Though after reading some other reviews, it peeked my interest to read the book.

La famille Bélier
(2014)

Plat

You
(2018)

Gets cringy fast
I watched the whole season 1 but it wasn't great overall. The whole glass cage thing is stupid and unrealistic. The last episode was so unbearably cringy I almost couldn't finish it. I will still try season 2 as I read in the reviews that it is better than season 1.

Update: season 2 is even cringier and ffs this damn glass cage is still there

The Social Dilemma
(2020)

Too black and white
The data subject is super important and it's great that this topic is being relayed by huge platforms such as Netflix. However I find it politically biased and too black and white regarding the subject of fake news and conspiracy theories. Hell, data surveillance, aka the subject of their documentary, was qualified a conspiracy theory when whistleblowers first came out with it. Some "conspiracies" actually turn out to be true. On the other hand, some mainstream media considered reliable also relay false info at times. No side is perfectly correct or perfectly wrong.

Big Little Lies
(2017)

Loved season 1...
... but didn't understand the purpose of season 2 at all.

I was on the edge of my seat for a great part of season 1, yet was on my phone for most of season 2. The whole Zoe Kravitz storyline is so slow and, frankly, uninteresting. I was glad to know, going into season 2, that we would see more of her but I just couldn't get attached to her character. It's just doom and gloom, nothing happens. I could not get to care about Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon's issues either. Nicole Kidman's performance remains my favorite, as in season 1. She's magnificent. Meryl Streep is great in her role but again, the storyline just falls flat in my opinion.

The 8 stars are for season 1, I binged it all in ONE day. The performances were ourstanding. I really wish they would have stopped there. I genuinely don't understand the purpose of season 2.

Office Space
(1999)

The plot is quite all over the place
First it's all about the hypnosis/doesn't-care-about-anything-anymore thing, then it moves on to the evil-plan-against-company thing, and the hypnosis part is simply never mentioned again! The main character miraculously stops being hypnotized. It's a shame because the first half of the movie was funny and enjoyable, when it's all about the office life, but as soon as the money stealing thing came on I completely lost interest and just waited for the movie to end. The Jennifer Aniston character is absolutely underdeveloped. The highlight for me was the boss and the office life in general, which was very relatable, even for a 20+ year old movie.

Häxan
(1922)

Had to stop watching...
I am absolutely fascinated by witches and witchcraft amd was therefore really looking to this, but this movie was unbearable. I muted the music after 5 minutes as it was truly overwhelming, and stopped the movie altogether after 20 minutes of pain. I recognize that for a 1922 movie it is pretty good, but I just couldn't stand the terrible acting, the grimy decor, the slow pace. I wish I liked it but it was truly unbearable.

Midsommar
(2019)

Still thinking about it 4 days later
Most other movies will seem bland to you after watching Midsommar, as they can't beat its storyline, characters development, AMAZING cinematography, intrigue, acting performances, editing, originality (the most luminous horror movie you'll ever see)... Midsommar truly is an amazing movie. I can't stop going back to thinking about it. I can't wait to watch it again for a deeper analysis and trying to find some answers to my remaining questions.

Underwater
(2020)

I stopped watching after 20 min
I feel like I've seen this movie 10 times before. Predictable plot, bad acting, stereotypical characters to whom I couldn't get attached (+ one super cringy sarcastic "funny" dude, as always)... Didn't feel like wasting my time and watch an additional 1 hour 10 min and, reading these reviews, I don't feel like I've missed anything.

The VVitch: A New-England Folktale
(2015)

Reading the reviews, I thought I had watched the wrong movie...
... because the amount of 10/10 is very confusing to me. The overuse of the term "Masterpiece" as well. It is not a bad movie, the hour and a half went by fast, the cinematography is beautiful and the acting is good, but I must say I was expecting more intensity in the characters or in the plot. Not necessarily "scary" things or jumpscares, which I hate, but simply more depth. The witch character was intriguing and I wish we had seen more of her. Overall I don't think I'll ever watch this movie again because I don't think there's more to be analyzed, I dont think the cinematography is fantastic enough to rewatch it either, I didn't get attached to the characters... In short, it is a good movie but doesn't quite deliver after seeing all these 10/10 reviews. I do have to say that the last movie I watched was Midsommar, which blew me away, so compared to it this movie is pretty bland.
