Barbie
(2023)

Good and bad
This movie did a lot of things good and a lot of things bad.

It left me from the theater feeling more emotions than Oppenheimer. Those emotions being anger and frustration.

The movie was aesthetically very precise in the way that it felt like they had a specific vision for it. It reminded me a bit of what Toy Story would look like in live action. It leave the audience ponder over the significance of the movie, which I have heard a lot. There were a lot of moments where the film was heading in the right direction but I felt they haven't fully explored those ideas. It felt like a waste potential when Barbie goes into the real world and sees how women are "supposedly" treated. This is no new concept and feels a bit exaggerate and not addressing the real challenges women face in society. I feel we have pass ahead of what was being portrayed. The monologue with the mother to the Barbies did feel relatable and wish those concepts were explored a bit more than just being repeated again.

When Ken brings back patriarchy to Barbieland and the barbies take it back by manipulating and tricking the Kens felt very cheap. What was the message behind that. At the end of the movie nothing changed. Barbie did become a fascist and took over Barbieland and were back to square one. Maybe that was the message, that nothing will ever change. The Ken are to Barbieland what women are to the real world.

Except for stereotypical Barbie having thoughts of death and cellulite (that plotline was then abandoned and never mentioned), all the Barbies were supposedly perfect and didn't have any flaws, which is the point, but if you want to portray realistic women, why did all the barbies at the end became the same as before? There was no progress done. There was only weird Barbie that felt human since it has "bad" and "good" characteristics but it felt like she was only a tour guide than an actual character.

Perhaps that's the message of the movie, that there can be no progress, which this movie was really good at getting conversations started since there are so many mixed opinions

This whole movie also felt like a whole 2-hours long commercial on Barbie. The whole marketing campaign made it feel like you fell in the trap of what this movie was trying to avoid, capitalism consumerist society, yet the sells for Barbie will increase.

The monologue with Barbie and the creator felt forced like those motivational speeches trying to force the message to the audience instead of thinking and coming to that conclusion.

There were more than a few awkward moments that didn't need to be in the movie that felt unnecessary.

The casting for Barbie was spot on but I would not agree for Ken. It didn't make sense for Ryan Gosling to be Ken, although no complain from the acting obviously, but just didn't fit. The hair looked awkward and distracting and wasn't a portrayal of the youth Ken.

At the end, I think it's also a huge generalization and don't know if this is the right movie for feminism and equality. I expected more from this movie.

Better Call Saul
(2015)

Its consistent, well made, good dialogue and actors
I've been meaning to watch this series after watching breaking bad but I was afraid of it being bad and disappointing me as I thought it be a money grab of some sort. After watching the first season, I cant wait to see how the other seasons will compare and which one will be my favorite. I love the flow that this series take and the pacing of it. The dialogue and acting is vert consistent and well constructed. I really liked the depth of the characters in the show. Overall, it seems to be a very well constructed tv show that I'm excited to continue. I would just like to the add to the editing of the show is always very on point in sense of how the music was going with the scene along the transitions of the scenes.

Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood
(2019)

Really disapointed
I was really excited to see this movie. It had an all-star cast of so many well-known and good actors and most exciting of all, it was directed by Quentin Tarantino, but at last, I was really disappointed.

Being at the cinema, I felt like I was being tortured. Nothing was happening, no conflict, no tension, no emotion, just good acting, and classic Quentin cinematography but this lasted for 2 hours which felt like weeks in the theater. The atmosphere was amazing and really captured the vibe.

Movies don't always have to be exciting but no information was being given so I didn't see the point in anything. I was patient for the first hour of the movie but when nothing was happening, I was confused.

I thought i had accidentally watch a documentary of some actor in the '50s. The plot reminded me of the movie 'Lost in Translation' but contrary to that movie, it was way more slow-paced and just felt a useless amount of screen time. The acting was amazing and enjoyable but the characters were flat, not motives, not development what so ever. It didn't feel like a Quentatino story.

The end part of the movie was way more exciting but it doesn't excuse for all the hours that were not. If it wasn't for Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt's acting, I would have fallen asleep way earlier. I felt like Margot Robbie was the most useless character, she said less than 10 words in this movie.

Anyways, don't watch this movie unless you really like 50s and 60 and old hollywood or are superfans of Leo and Brad, 6/10.

The Silence of the Lambs
(1991)

It was good, but not great
This movie has great directing, alright cinematography, amazing acting, solid plotline, brilliant writing, well-crafted characters, and average soundtrack. Although it was wasn't my cup of tea, this thriller movie is enjoyable from beginning to end even if you're not into those type. It is a slow-paced film but it gets intense after a while so patience is key and the acting in this movie made it far more interesting, especially Anthony Hopkins' and Jodie Foster's. Personally, a 7/10 but could be an 8 the next time I watch it again.

After
(2019)

What did you expect?
Going into this movie, I already had very low expectation since this is a film inspired from a Wattpad story but I thought maybe I would give it the benefit of the doubt and be surprised by the acting, directing or even soundtrack. Boy was I wrong.

First off, the main character seems to have no control over her own actions and lets herself be manipulated and peer pressured by others around her. I still tried to think positive thinking there would be a character ark or something. But no. If you're familiar with Wattpad, the protagonist is like every teenager there is in this world of fantasy. This whole movie is marketed towards young teenagers which makes sense with the music choice and the movie's plotline. It's good that the characters are almost always consenting to their actions but they act like complete idiots and something the story doesn't even make sense. And the bad acting doesn't help. The directing was nothing special but something it was even distracting and questionable. Wish there was a 0/10 option

The English Patient
(1996)

This movie is good?
Without compering it to the books, this movie on itself is nothing special, which is why i was so surprice to see how many oscars it had one.

The plotline is flat and nothing original.

The romance between our two caracters is far from believable since there seems to be no reason for them to fall in love. It seems like they're obssesed with the surface, not with each other. The camera work had nothing out of the ordinary and most of the other caracters were blunt. Ralph Fiennes' performance was amazing as always and Juliette's was at least not distracting from the movie which is why this movie is not getting a 1 star.

The cinematography was overrated. Most shots were of the dessert which on it's own is a marvel but this is a movie, not the geographic channel. The film just lacked a lot and didn't portray emotion the right way for the viewers to emphatize with.
