Prey
(2022)

Better than the original (if you shed your nostalgia)
The action sequences were more exciting with all the non-gun weapons. I cared a helluva lot more for the protagonists in this movie, too. The scenery and the slow build with all the animals was fantastic! I thought the brother and sister gave very good performances. (Amber Midthunder was particularly good, of course.) And it was satisfying to see P plow through the fur trappers. I also really liked all the ethnographic detail. Thankfully, the gore was effective, but not too over the top.

All that, but I'm giving it an 8 because a Predator movie just ain't that complicated, folks. It's a fun ride, though!

Ms. Marvel
(2022)

Adorable and fun!
The show is adorable! I love all the teen drama that Kamala faces and her family struggles. As a non-Muslim, I also adore getting to see a story about this kid and all the cultural differences between her family and mine... as well as the similarities. All the haters here just can't handle seeing a story about someone who doesn't look like them. The pacing was slow now and then, but not to the point of distraction. 9/10.

Maria Bamford: The Special Special Special!
(2012)

What a unique talent
I don't love a lot of standup, which often feels repetitive to me. But Bamford's work here (and in Lady Dynamite!) is so unique and heartfelt. The funny voices and the clever humor are great, but take a backseat to the humanity.

Legends of Tomorrow
(2016)

If you're campy and you know it...
The absolute beauty of this show is how joyously self-aware it is. It simultaneously serves the DC Comics fan base, while also just offering one helluva fun ride. More than any of the CW comics shows, it owns blends its "comic bookiness" with modern comedic sensibilities. Also, the actors are clearly having a blast chewing up the scenery. Love it!
