Viking Quest
(2015)

Johnny Drama is not in this
What a letdown. Was expecting to see Johnny Drama kill in this movie. Obviously I was disappointed. The massive talent that Johnny Drama brings to any role he takes on can lift even the weakest of scripts to great heights. I imagine his history of going on strike had something to do with the director not wanting his involvement. Their loss. His ability to create characters that are so immaculately constructed and take an audience on a journey they were surely not prepared for is a thing of beauty. Tis a shame we were left to wallow in the misery of what was so ungracioulsy bestowed upon us. It is my deepest hope the Drama has the opportunity to bring his talent to the franchise, and quite frankly build back better what has been destroyed by this travesty of film.

Hunter Killer
(2018)

Surprised at how much fun this movie was
Based off critic's reviews I assumed it was going to be garbage (like the last couple of Gerard Butler movies I didn't like - Geostorm and Den of Thieves.) Today was rainy and it was still in the cinema so I gave it a try. Hunter Killer is the best action movie I have seen at the theater since Mission Impossible - Fallout. No kidding. Not equally as good or well made as MI, but the best since MI.

Hunter Killer is an almost-great, suspenseful, fun, exciting, on-the-brink-of-war movie which is absolutely worth your time if you've even considered watching it but haven't yet. It was a 2 hour suspense film that kept me and the other few viewers in the theater (their enjoyment was audible) on the edge of our seats.

No spoilers here, but understand that the majority of the movie takes place underwater inside a submarine that is trying to evade detection and avoid torpedoes, and it is quite effective at drawing the viewer in for a fun ride. Go see it. Or wait for streaming. Either way you will probably enjoy it.

Trafficked
(2017)

Vile. Poor, B grade attempt to portray evil.
I quit at approximately 27 min. Just lost interest. Human trafficking is sick and disgusting and wrong on so many levels but the story they tried to tell (again, I quit after 27 minutes) just sucked. Poor directing. If I'm not mistaken, Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite was a bartender, also the villain from Cobra is in it (which actually adds bonus points IMO.) Scene after scene of women of different races being beaten and bound by rope or duct tape or whatever crying or laying dormant was just depressing. If the director thought those scenes would help open the world's eyes to a serious problem, he did a bad job. Tell a good story with a good script that doesn't offend the viewer and makes people aware, and is also smart, suspenseful, and well told. Trafficked did not do this. If this movie's goal was to shed a light on a disturbing industry it failed. Bad script, bad acting. Just ugly and poorly made. Do not recommend.

Halloween
(2018)

3/10 review vs. 7/10 review. For those who have seen it.
3/10 review

1. Characters are introduced as a mainstay then just simply vanish from script (boyfriend should have been killed.)

2. New Doctor is not a worthy character, maybe not cast right or maybe the character should have been omitted; not sure on this one.

3.If Michael caused the bus crash as was stated in the film, that scene should have been included and could have been BADASS. (maybe a directors cut?)

4.Laurie Strode has been training for 40 years to kill Michael, building a fortress of complete protection for her and her loved ones, full of secret rooms filled with unlimited guns and ammo to kill Michael. Every room has a locking cage mechanism to trap Michael. Again, she's planned for this, knowing it was going to happen, for 40 years. Yet she allows her son-in-law to foolishly get killed by Michael at the most important moment in her life??? WTF? Also the "death" of Michael was obviously an attempt at hinting at a sequel, which I get if you're looking to make more money, but it just doesn't make sense. Laurie's entire existence has been to kill Michael Meyers and when she finally has the chance to do it she just walks off and assumes he's dead?? DUMB.

5. As a child of the 80's, I appreciate horror movies and the gore that came with them. Thing is, the original Halloween didn't have much gore and was pretty, pretty, pretty, scary without it. This 2018 movie used more gore than was necessary in my opinion (and I love The Walking Dead.) Sure, a little more blood this go around is cool but taking it to the Rob Zombie level (his movie sucked BTW) was just not needed.

7/10 Review:

1. Good stuff. Opening sequence was AWESOME. Felt like I was in a 1978 movie theater watching the original which was super cool.

2. I've watched Halloween every Halloween for 25 years and can get scared every time. I've also watched all of Danny McBride's work from the Foot Fist Way to Vice Principles and love them all, so was pretty excited to find out that Danny was scripting a new Halloween. Credit is due and I appreciate his admiration. If he and his BFF want to do a second (3rd?) Halloween I'm all in.

3. It is truly scary! If Michael Meyers scares you in the slightest way then this movie will scare you. It has some seriously intense scenes. I really like the idea of MM just walking through a neighborhood and killing random people. That was the PERFECT way to remind the audience that Halloween is about a human who's only desire is to kill. And that is scary. Again, a little overkill on the gore.

4. To sum up I'd say go see it if your a fan. You more likely to enjoy than not!

A Simple Plan
(1998)

maybe one of the best non-feel good movies ever made
Saw this at the theater with my girlfriend, who was angry as we walked out. Guess the depressing mood was too much for her. I loved it. Direction was impeccable. Acting by Paxton, Thornton, Gary Cole, and really all involved was top notch. It's a shame you can't find movies like this at the theater any more. Some say it steals from the Cohen bros but I say it's an original as hell take on reality for many living in America, 20 years ago and now. Can money by you love? Can money by you happiness? Can it make your life better? I'd like to think that yes, it can, but after watching this you may reconsider that possibility.

This film is not for those who are depressed. It's pretty darn depressing and will likely bring the depressed even further down the stinker, but it is one hell of a movie. HIGHLY recommended.
