Lucky Hank
(2023)

Better Call Foul!
I've been a fan of Bob Odenkirk since his monumentally influential starring vehicle. No not that one or that other one, or that movie. Mr. Show was one of the most amazing sketch comedy shows not to mention HBO properties. Every single scene and even the connecting tissue between scenes seemed groundbreaking. The subversive chuckles were everywhere with multilayered mayhem at the wheel. Lucky Hank does not showcase the comedic talents nor the dramatic promise shown in his former joints. What Lucky Hank is = garbage version of the brilliant and overlooked ltd series "The Chair", starring Sandra Oh. The Chair showed the underbelly of collegiate doings with gusto, relatable and sometimes outrageous dark humor and insight. Here we just have a slew of bickering characters who all seem better off dead and not very happy to be wandering through the lackluster halls of this particular institution. The only redeeming character in this meandering show is Hank's long suffering wife Lily but at least in the pilot she gets very little time to balance out all the dour rote musings of students and faculty of Sad Sack University. If anything about this show truly appeals to anyone I would strongly recommend sitting down for a marathon with The Chair instead.

Search Party
(2014)

A little half and half
Half problematic and half hilarious, just like half the cast. If you know, you know. Also, Did not need to see Tom's Middle-ditch.... this has way more than 150 characters IMDB.

The Mimic
(2020)

Weak imitation of a madcap comedy
The script consists of nothing but rapid-fire ping pong dialogue that's just stupid and mean without a funny line or idea. A pointless exercise in moviemaking everyone who went along with shooting and finishing this film should be ashamed.

The Runner
(2022)

Unintelligible music video
Nobody cares about your band or your awful haircuts. Please. Don't make any more movies. What is wrong with shudder will they allow anything? It's a paying sub.

Midnight Mass
(2021)

God-awful
A slew of recovery speak, dime store philosophical psycho babble and not a whole lot of action or scares at all. Blah blah blah for miles and miles. Not a slow burn, it's a no burn.

Only Murders in the Building
(2021)

Tedious unfunny cash grab
You didn't laugh once. Admit it. You want to like it because you've liked these people in other things but this is bad, really bad. The monotony of the character points, the numerous mentions of "podcast" when it's clear the writers have never heard one. How do I know? When the power in the bldg goes out and the principles all lose "transmission" of their favorite podcast at the same time, the writers don't know a goddam thing about podcasts. That's not how anything works do some research... and jfc what is the deal with Selena's speaking voice? Isn't she voice trained? Sounds more like she's in need of a heimlich than a Grammy. Enunciate hon. It's the least you owe your silly fans. Great acting. Nice mom jeans I guess.

Chad
(2021)

Dweebs and Fleebs
I'll watch just about anything featuring SNL alum. When I saw that Nasim had a new show I was excited. Unfortunately it's bad. Like worst sketch of 1981 bad. It's about what you'd expect from an average 90s awkward teen sitcom only, spoiler alert, the boy is played by a lady! Great skin to pull it off, nasim but there's nothing new here, not since Julie Andrews played Peter Pan or Freaks and Geeks made heroes of high school's leftovers. Maybe it's the style of comedy too. Maybe awkward has run its course and come out the other end as, well, uh...

Stop
(2015)

Stop...
....making pointless films. So much storytelling opportunity here wasted. And that shot where the kids' eyes are just looking weirdly into space, telling no story of their own. Huge directorial gaff. Nice try guys but have something to say and some element of surprise next time or just. Stop.

Mr. Mayor
(2021)

Overwritten
It's overwritten and under funny. We all love Ted danson and holly Hunter and Tina fey but maybe they're time is up? Just a thought.

Waco
(2018)

Good but
Happy to have the botched raid told somewhat truthfully but the top casting is more than a little off. Interesting choice to do 4 full episodes on the raid when the backstory is almost as crazy but ok.

The Wrong Missy
(2020)

Lapkus rules
Lapkus is officially on the map. Hilarious turn as that girl. Look for her to pop up everywhere now.

Trust
(2018)

Starts strong
Starts strong then drags on and on and on with pointless 1 dimensional character studies nobody cares about. Could have been decent 4 parter but there's not enough here to justify 10 episodes.

War of the Worlds
(2019)

Boring
The worst of all possible worlds. It's boring, it makes you read subtitles of boring dialogue, the sfx you could do on your phone with an app. There's nothing here, ET. Go home.

Sasheer Zamata: Pizza Mind
(2017)

Smart, funny, chill standup
She talks about Trump's America so that's why the bots have gone after it with low ratings. If you're smart and like standup you'll like it.
