The Lovely Bones
(2009)

Not like the book
I am Alice Sebold's biggest fan, and her novel "The Lovely Bones" was mind-blowing. Therefore, naturally, I was excited about the release of this movie. Unfortunately, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the novel. There are some beautiful moments within the book that I'd love to have seen on screen, and some incredibly moving and important moments that haven't even been touched. The special effects in this film are brilliant, however it's unfortunate that the lovely little moments weren't used.

Favourite character: Susie or Lindsey Salmon Least favourite character: Mr Harvey or Ruth

Amy
(2015)

Heartbreaking
This look into Amy Winehouse's life is honestly heartbreaking. Her lifestyle and her father's presence make you realise how out of control she was over her own life. It's a real eye opener, and smashes the pretences the media shows. In this film, you see Amy as a person rather than just another drugged up performer. She was raw, a real rough diamond. She had such an incredible talent, and it angers me how Blake and Mitch pushed her away from saving herself. If they weren't around, in particular Mitch, she still might have been here today. Devastating. However, hats off to the creators of Amy. This film was created with such sensitivity and respect for the late singer, and really shows how beautiful she was.

What to Expect When You're Expecting
(2012)

Star-studded yet disappointing
Honestly, this film was slightly disappointing. With so many incredible actors and actresses in one film, I expected it to be brilliant and to be laughing all the way through. However, it was just a bit flat. Possibly what went wrong was too many story-lines. I understand that the writers wanted to show every different outcome of pregnancy or child-related changes, however I feel like each character didn't have much depth. I like to really get to know a character and really be involved, however it was difficult to engage with a situation as they flicked through multiple different scenarios. However, it was a nice concept and brought in many different possibilities. And of course, as always, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez looked amazing.

Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas
(2014)

Very sweet
I thought this adaption/ follow up of the hit movie 'Elf' was very, very sweet. It isn't very similar to 'Elf' but how could it be? It's an animation about a different story. The special effects and animation were beautiful and clever, I love little 3D people and all that sort of thing. I thought it was really sweet and my mother and I (both adults) happily sat and watched it the whole way through! No children in sight! Hats off to the people who made this movie. Utterly glorious. And very, very festive. I would definitely recommend this movie and I hope to see it on my TV screen once again this Christmas. I might even force my niece to watch it!
