Reacher
(2022)

Entertainment at it's Best
I'm not much of a Reader. So when I saw the Tom Cruise version of Jack Reacher I liked it. I still haven't read the books and I binged upon the two seasons of Reacher. I loved it. For the first time in my life I think I'm going to start reading and seems it will be better when I can put a face to the characters in the book. Reacher is pure entertainment. And when I watch something all I look for is engagement and entertainment. This series is perfect for that. The actors have all done ther work perfectly and it's the big guy, Alan Ritchson who steals the show. From what I hear others saying about the book I feel he's done more than just, justice to the character. Hope the seasons continue.

Man with a Plan
(2016)

Super fun and awesome
All actors play their parts awesome. They are all so likable. Jokes are good and some real super comic timing by all of them makes this show a real good watch. While I binge watched first 3 seasons, I am loving season 4 too now. Hope the series goes on and entertains more.

Commando 3
(2019)

Unique
This movie qualifies to be a very good watch on many levels. It's different conceptually and action wise. There are some filmy moments yes, but overall the climax leaves an impact on you. Patriotism and Unity are displayed in great light and in a very unique manner. Loved watching this movie because it keeps you engaged. Vidyut Jamwal's action is super awesome and which is why so far I have watched all of his movies. Always proved to be an enertainer. Gulshan Devaiah is a superb actor and despite not bulkily built, he looks menacing. Support cast does a decent job and all in all as an Indian, I would say this movie is a must watch.

Whiskey Cavalier
(2019)

One of the Best Shows, Very Entertaining
I loved watching this show right from the first episode. There's a lot of action, witty dialogues and lovable characters played by really wonderful actors. Scott Foley, Lauren Cohan, Vir Das, Ana Ortiz, Tyler James Wills, Josh Hopkins play the main team and they do a terrific job with splendid direction by David Hemingson.

I'm absolutely disappointed to know that the show's been cancelled. Hope there's some other channel who can take it up.

Venom
(2018)

Haters get a life. Venom is Poisonously Entertaining
Venom is truly an entertainer. Tom Hardy does total justice to the character. This is a splendid intro and already cant wait anymore to see more. Some people criticized the vfx but must say uts truly awesome. Go watch this movie and enjoy every bit.

Bhavesh Joshi Superhero
(2018)

Real Life Superhero
I wish I had stopped following the stupid critics before this movie was released. I should have caught this one in the theaters. This Superhero is so human. Rightly said in one of the dialogues. No one is born a Superhero, you have to become one. It's very real and, the protagonists are not larger than life characters. They bleed, they get hurt but it's the courage they show to fight against the corrupt is what is really worth watching. I'm sure there are people like Bhavesh & Sikander who do exist and hold the courage to fight. But the number of commoners who are scared for their own life and the safety of their loved ones, is higher and so they adjust and stay quiet and go about living their lives. World does need a few Insaaf-Men. :-)

Harshvardhan Kapoor, Priyanshu Painyuli, have done a very good job and they do complete justice to their characters. Ashish Rajat is good as third friend. Nishikant Kamat is as good an actor as a director he is. Good to see Chinmay Mandlekar do an important role in the movie.

Kudos to the makers of this movie and Director Vikramaditya Motwane. I'll regret having not watched this one in the theaters.

The Meg
(2018)

Entertaining.... Meg!!!
Just back after watching this movie and surprised to see the hatred being spread. The Indian version had a lots of blurs cuts and beeps but still it was entertaining. Jason Stathom is good and so is the rest of the cast. CGI was at par with any popular CGI movie and it also had some really scary moments.

Overall tone though was retained to be light which was good in a way. No doubt it could have been better in lots of aspects. Could have given 7 but compensating for the haters lesser scores.

Cycle
(2018)

A lovable emotional journey
Wow, such a simple and sweet movie with an easy narration which is high on emotional quotient. Director Prakash Kunte brings to us a story set in early post-independence era, from a small village in Konkan. This is a story about Keshav an astrologer who owns a unique cycle presented to him by his grandfather. His love for the cycle is unbreakable and he would do anything to take care of it. Because of his cycle and his love for it and, for being a very good human being, he's very popular in his village and the areas nearby. What happens when his cycle gets stolen by two thieves and how the thieves get treated because of their theft is what you'll get to see in this movie.

I'd seen work of Hrishikesh Joshi in Breathe and Poshter Boys recently. He's a wonderful actor and very pleasant to watch. If such is going to be his choice of movies then I'm sure I'd be going to watch his movies without giving a second thought. Amazing work. The other two main characters, the thieves, Gajya and Mangya are played by Bhalchandra Kadam and Priyadharshan Jadhav. These two also have done a wonderful job. Although, I thought Bhalchandra Kadam a.k.a Bhau Kadam was underutilized. He's one amazingly funny guy and can have you in splits by his dialogue delivery and acting.

Cinematography by Amalendu Chaudhary is wonderful. I tend to usually love the visuals when Marathi movies are set in the rurals. It really brings out the beauty of Maharashtrian villages in a superb manner.

One of the very few glitches I noticed was a concrete road in a scene on a bridge. Pretty sure there weren't concrete roads in that era. But these issues are so negligible compared to the overall emotional impact the movie will have on you. Brilliant work Team - CYCLE. Loved this movie and looking forward to more of such movies. Content-driven Marathi cinema has truly evolved a lot.

Peter Rabbit
(2018)

Fully Loaded with Cuteness, Fun, Laughter, Emotions
Hadn't heard about the release of this movie but had seen the trailer a few days back. When I showed the trailer to my kiddo he instantly said he wanted to go and see the movie. Technically or otherwise I think this is a very well made movie. It sets the tone, right from the start when Peter rams into the singing birds and shoots off apologizing in a haste. Even from the trailer you know its about a mischievous gang of rabbits.

Liked what Sam Neil did in his role of Sr. Mcgregor. Frankly, hadn't really seen much of him after Jurassic park and the cameo in Thor Ragnnarok. Domhnall Gleeson as Jr. Mcgregor is really very funny and Rose Byrne as Bea plays per part beautifully. (must say I loved the paintings :-D).

The voice over artists are the soul of this movie as they match their voices perfectly to the characters and that really helps the audience to emotionally connect with the movie, the characters and the situation. To do that, requires a lot of brilliance.

Amazing!!

Kids are going to love this and so would the adults. Do watch...

Thor: Ragnarok
(2017)

Nothing Less Than Excellent!
I'd seen earlier THOR movies and had liked them. Only felt it was a bit dark. In Avengers movie, Thor was this bit of a serious character with some camaraderie with HULK on occasions. I always liked that bit of FUNNY side of Thor in those scenes with Hulk. In Ragnarok, we Thor cracking some really good jokes with some witty lines, right from the start. I would want to believe it as the effect of him being in captivity for some time. But Ragnarok is refreshing and funny with great action and vfx as expected from Marvel movies.

Also loved the cameo by three unexpected actors :-)

All in all this movie is super fun to watch and we loved watching it on the huge IMAX screen. Awesome experience.

Jagga Jasoos
(2017)

Excellent Movie! Great Attempt to Make Something Different
Critics in India and to certain extent audience keep cribbing about the repetition and usage of same old formula for movie making etc. However, when something really refreshing and new comes up, people aren't really open to accepting the change.

To say the least, this movie is BRILLIANT. Considering it's a musical, the lyrics, music, beats etc are catchy and entertaining. I'm sure people who saw the movie loved it. I'd say Jagga Jasoos needes some word of mouth publicity to help it go on to become a commercial hit. It deserves every bit of that popularity. Alas, attitude of the audience needs to be more open towards accepting something new. I'd heard some people cribbing about frequent appearance of music and song during the movie. These are the people who in first place don't understand what a musical is. Phew!! Then they go out and speak negative about the movie.

Anyways, performances in the movie are brilliant. Storyline that includes mini-stories within keeps you well engaged and the movie never had even a single dull moment.

I've been watching almost all Ranbir Kapoor's movies except without speculating since he's known to do something different each time. All of his movies have been unique and his performances have been TOP NOTCH. He's one actor apart from Shahid Kapoor who really should get more commercial success also. They deserve.

All in all, if you can get hold of this movie on Prime, Netflix, DVD, BluRay or anywhere, please do watch it. You'll not regret. But be aware that, this is a musical.

Chef
(2017)

Yes, Remakes Can Be Good!!!
I've seen the original movie "Chef" and liked it. However about this Indian remake of Chef I got to know only a little before it's release date. In fact, I was browsing through movies to watch for weekend and then realized that Chef had already released. In the past I've liked most of Saif Ali Khan's movies. I'm guessing his style of acting and a pleasant screen presence has something to do with it. This has been a case ever since we saw him in his makeover version in Dil Chahta Hai. Then on Hum Tum, Being Cyrus, Omkara, Race, Agent Vinod, Phantom, Rangoon are some of his really good movies. So, when Chef released and I saw it listed, I instantly decided to watch it. Movie starts of well with the punching scene but the first half somehow feels a tad bit slow. I would have definitely loved to see more of the cooking scenes and foodie visuals. Movie is more about the bonding between father- son and to an extent it goes on to show the fallen apart chemistry between the ex- souses. There are scenes high on emotions, fun but all in all lighthearted. Despite the slow first half, the movie never bores you. You'll like the characters as their portrayals by the actors are impressively done. The one-lines given to Saif in the scenes portraying his jealously towards Milind Soman are really funny. This movie is fun to watch. If people are finding flaws, I believe they are being too technical to judge this movie.

The Mummy
(2017)

A Fun Popcorn Flick
Well, fun, sure it is, but with those ugly looking walking zombies, you may not like to much on the popcorn I'm guessing but a heavy doze of entertainment is something that this movie promises and delivers. I've seen a lot of movies and reviewed a few of them. But my parameters of a good movie include an emotional connect with the characters, a good story and likable actors. The Mummy (2017) ensure it ticks all those boxes. The CGI is good and action sequences, some of them are breathtaking. This is in contradiction to some of the reviews. CGI is not bad at all. Tom cruise has this ability to make the characters he plays, likable. He's also got a good comic timing and those delivers some of the punch lines really well. Never during the movie would you feel bored. It keeps you at the edge of your seat with all the action unfolding scene by scene. Only felt that face in the sand animation was already done in the Brendan Fraser - Mummy movie so didn't come across as novelty. Loved the sound effects and some of the scenes appear with a bang and do manage to scare you. Having said all that, finding comedy, horror, thriller, action all in one movie, I just cannot complaint.

Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat
(2015)

Clean Family Entertainment
First thing first. I'm a big fan of Sanjay Mishra and have loved watching his movies for his performances.

When actors like Sanjay Mishra, Rajpal Yadav and Vijay Raaz who have great comic timing, come together on screen, you're surely in for guaranteed laughs. That's exactly what Baankey Ki Crazy Baraat does by bringing the trio together. Hearing the term 'proxy wedding' itself will bring a smile on your face. Kudos to the makers of BKCB to come up with a really entertaining situation- based comedy with a shaadi backdrop. Actors like Rakesh Bedi, Satyajeet Dubey, Tia Bajpai, Pankaj Jha and Anil Mange have also done a very good job.

In the movie, Baankey's family face difficulties getting him married. The astrologer from whom they seek advice informs them that there is a problem with Baankey's kundali and in order to ensure he leads a happy married life, he shouldn't be present at his own wedding as the groom. Thus comes up an idea of a proxy wedding where the groom would be someone else only for the period of the wedding. Bankey's family decides to keep this a secret and arranges for the wedding. No one apart from close members of Bankey's family know about what's cooking and thus starts off a fun and roller coaster ride of the wedding journey with a lot of funny and tricky situations even as the substitute groom and the real bride fall in love.

What really works for the movie is that it stays true to it's genre and also stays simple and believable. There's a connect with the characters and you can feel their emotions. You will also be able to relate with the characters with a sense that somewhere or the other you've actually met with people with similar characteristics and mannerisms.

With it's simplistic approach, you may take time to get used to the marginally slow paced first half but the second half absolutely makes up for it and ensures that the movie keeps you entertained. What I also liked about the movie is that it has been shot in some really beautiful rural locations of Himachal Pradesh. Another interesting fact that I read in an article is that some of the locals from the area were given a chance to do small roles in the movie which is really interesting.

Go watch this movie with your family and friends. It's nice and clean entertainment and will sure make you laugh.

Soundtrack
(2011)

Surprising
A surprisingly good movie. Just caught up with this movie when it was shown on our local cable movie channel. I found this movie quite interesting. It definitely could have been a lot better but some fine performances by Soha Ali Khan, Rajiv Khandelwal and Mohan Kapoor kept the interest in the movie up.

The story is about a music composer / DJ (played by Rajeev Khandewal) who's career is rocked by a sudden deafness due to constant loud music, high consumption of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. Enter Gauri, who too is deaf but still helps Rajeev come to terms with his disability.

Wouldn't say don't miss it but yes, if you get a chance, do watch it.

Agent Vinod
(2012)

Entertaining
Movies which can't entertain you, shouldn't be made in the first place. Here we're talking about Agent Vinod a movie which is far from being a disaster as stated in some of the other reviews I read. This movie sure entertains you. It's a stylish and slick spy movie. I'm not a critic and I don't criticize movies. I just state whether as an audience, I liked it or not. I sure liked Agent Vinod. Its a fast paced movie which fails to bore you. When movies are made to entertain, why should one compare it to a reality cinema and find potholes and illogical treatments? I mean, come on, you can't look at each and every movie as an art movie or reality cinema. Some movies are just meant to be enjoyed as entertainers. AV is one of those movies where you shouldn't bother to think too much and just be entertained by the action & drama. If James Bond can go on to kill 100s and destroy huge set single handedly, so can AV. Saif Ali Khan proves he can be a good spy. He's carried off the role very well. Kareena Kapoor did justice to her role. The supporting cast including Prem Chopra, Shahbaz Khan, Adil Hussain, Ram Kapoor, Anshuman Singh were good too.

Phoonk
(2008)

Few Words about Phoonk
Its not so scary. A lot of hype was given to this movie because of the contest in which the participant had to view the movie alone in the theater. A strictly one time watch on a DVD.

I'm not going to go much into the story as it is simply about a non- believer being haunted by the supernatural and his family.

Performances are good. Background Score, Visuals, camera angles etc were supposed to play a major role in a movie which was made to scare the audience. However, all of these were strictly OK.

Some Facts Related to the Movie: There was even another contest where participants were supposed to submit their real life experience horror story. This was all on the Phoonk website www.phoonk.in which is now non-existent. However the sad thing about the second contest was that the winners were intimidated over the email but never announced on the website and were also officially never given the price money. I'm one of them.

All in all a one time watch movie which doesn't completely fail to impress as a horror movie.
