Dark Nature
(2022)

as a horrorobsessive, this pleasantly surprised me, therefore ill be generous with a 9
I think it is really important that u know as little about the movie as possible, if u are a fan of the horrorgenre.

If u wanna know if its ur cup of tea as a once in a while scarymovie consumer, it may still excite u after knowing more.

The reason i am writing this review tbh is, that i luckily watched the flick without checking the reviews on imdb, which i usually do these days (not in detail, but a quick scroll over) and when i came here checking out what ppl thought AFTER seeing it myself, i saw that the FIRST review that is shown has the BIGGEST SPOILER in its REVIEWTITLE. If i had seen that i would most likely not watched the movie. I hope the order will change with my added review.

Bc this movie had me guessing right up to the last scene. And thats what i enjoyed probably the most about it ^^

Old People
(2022)

i dont get the hate o0
Yes, of course it could have been better and i rly wish there had been some other choices.

BUT at least this has a decent plot and the premise is relevant.

I am german and seldom watch media content made from "home", i just dont relate to the way actors tend to speak in movies and shows... so if find myself NOT beeing turned off by that, then it has to be sth. About it thst grabs me.

Surprisingly this did.

And i enjoyed this a lot more than 90%of the horror ive seen this year (and i watched over 120flicks). Eg i watched hellraiser22 right before this and though it has much cooler shots and overall set... the budget was huge and that made for great visuals... but that was all i liked about it.

At least this movie has something u may think about at the end.... if u choose to think, that is....

True Story with Ed & Randall
(2022)

this made me smile the whole way through
I dont usually write reviews. But this was such a surprise to me.

Cuz of severe health issues, i have watched an enourmous amount of shows and movies. I tend to love scify, horror and documentaries. Since my situation started to decline i felt depressed more and more recently by the sheer number of irl issues that are portrayed more accuratly in shows and the revealing docs that have been coming out about the state of a lot of surpressed material (esp in terms of abuse of power and i mean the factual not the conspiracy kind).

THIS show made me realize how deep the need in humans is, to see the other sides. I dont care for the comments about this beeing made with a political-ish intent.

Imo this is a feel good show in a way better context than any superhero, action, or romcom stuff.

If u want to listen and relax. This is awesome.

Afterwards at least me personally feels ready to face the next part of current reality of covid, the ucrainian war, the social issues of my homecountry and everything else :)

so to me: this show is worth 10 outta 10 ^^

Shining Vale
(2022)

I dont get the haters...
...esp. The ones that didnt watch more than 3eps.

I usually dont judhe before the full season, but I enjoyed todays episode so much, I checked the ratings... I just dont get it. I am a massive horror fan and also watched about everything that has come out in the thriller-, sci-fi, mystery-, suspense,- genre in the last decade as well. And I gotta say "shining vale" has one quality that makes it one of the very few shows i look forward to watch every week: non-predictability. YES, the elements of it are superoverdone: posession, haunting, sterotype teencharacters, drugabuse etc... BUT they do it so twisted and over- or under-the top... at least I can´t see it coming. Or at least not totally. They also have a way of misleading the viewer with sound or trope- cues (which admittingly annoyed me in the beginning, cuz it felt like thats all that will happen. Which may be why many dont stick with the show....)... which by now I love, cuz its fun when sth. Actually DOES happen, just not the way u thought exactly.

I dunno... I am just rly tired of beeing in the minority of what shows I like these days...

One last thing: the comparison to "American horror story" is valid as any show compared to another.

(and I think I get where ppl are coming from, but there are so many points to make on how they are nothing alike from theconceptual pov to the vibe and structure.... I wont even get into any of that.) but from the start it reminded me a lot more of "santa clarinets diet" and "ghosts" than AHS.

Roswell, New Mexico
(2019)

started somewhat ok but by s3 I am loving it
Short version: s1 and2 are ok. A lil too teendramaesque for my liking, but still an ok watch compared to other shows. Esp if u like me love a team/gang of protagonists rather than individual(s).

By s3 I am in love with the show and cant wait for the next episode.

So if ur deciding if u wanna watch the show: give it a go and maybe skip episodes in s1+2 that feel boring. But dont give up until a few eps into s3. If u dont like it by then its not for u

more details: i wasnt a big fan of the old roswell, which might be because it was before my inet days and i had to watch it dubbed in german and on television in my youth which meant i missed episodes here and there cuz of my parents etc.

But i loved the main casts actors and it was hard to get to like the new ones.

But they grew on me and although the political correctness of current times can get in the way of the escapism scifi and other genres offer me, this show managed to integrate it very fittingly. I love how they did that. It suits the story very well imo.

Aaaand i am such a sucker for a "scooby-gang" (I dunno what it is called... i just refer to it this way since "buffy" ^^). And this gang rocks <3.

SurrealEstate
(2021)

why r ppl rating after just a few ep? the impatience these days. and the folks wonder why shows get cancelled left n right...
I just write this, because i am frustrated that users have such strong judgments without even waiting for the whole season.

If this mindset had been around 25 y ago, we probbly wouldnt have had a 5th of the most beloved shows until today.

I get that things are changing and its ok, streaming services are themselves still figuring out how to make money off of a show... it is not as simple as it was.

Still... seasons already have like half the episodes and 10times the competiotion... i think it is really distructive to rate them with a 1 out of 10. I dont get that mindset.

And anyone doing that should imo not be allowed to wine about a show beeing cancelled to early.

Even shows i really do not like, offer sth. I can see ppl liking and if it is not harmful misinformation or stuff like that, i would not just hate on it. -.-

well, to not be a hyppocrite: i have seen only 8 out of 10 episodes and i would give it a 7 average so far, but i had to just kick it up to an 8 as a lil counter to all the 1s ^^ will adjust that after the final.

Superhost
(2021)

only for fans new to the genre
I guessed the plot pretty much after 5 minutes. I hoped for some turns and twists or anything.... for me, there were none.

Also imo: the actors are and/or may be good, but the writing is part shallow and part obvious. To me they felt like devices, not ppl. Which ruins any tension.

I kinda wish they had given this budget to some c-flick that at least had a story worth exploring.

Sacred Lies
(2018)

season 1 is a great insight into the human condition and the struggle of growing up in a very flawed society
(i would have given the show a 10 if it wasnt for the fact that it had a 2nd season that has nothing to do with s1, which i wont watch.)

anyone who wants a short rev: its about cults and how they affect ppl, its about abuse and life in prison for underaged girls. The pace is great and the season has no loose ends imo.

The writing and character.. revelation more than development is outstanding imo. I have watched tons of documentaries about cults, racism and the psychology behind it as well as prison-life and the principles of justice and questionable effectiveness of crimepunishment around the world...

this show taps into all those issues without straight answers. I am relly not able to sum it up.

It is a show about the psychology of human needs, of what feeling powerless means, of the search to the question everybody has: why?

I usually dont write reviews and am no native speaker, but: this show seems to be so underrated (or simply not known. I am an addict when it comes to shows with any element of suspense and this had a horrortag, so i couldnt believe i never heard of it till yesterday).

I only watched the first season and since a scientology member is playing a big role in season 2, thats all i will watch. But thats ok, it is a coplete series.

Motherland: Fort Salem
(2020)

cant remember a show i was this excited about in the last 10 years probably and i watched almost everything xD
Ok, i usually dont write reviews, i just rate. But after yet another episode where i was equally excited and simultaniously sad about every minute (the latter, because I dreaded getting to the end and having to wait for more): i HAVE to.

I am a total sucker for every mystery, scifi, fantasy show, ever since i was 16 and loving Buffy on a lvl that borders on obsession xD.

And i feel confident in saying i have seen most of those shows that have been released since 2000ish. I dont think aside from alias and a few sections of the vampir diaries, the first 2 seasons of lost and some of agents of shield- have surprised me more that fort salem started its second season.

The major credit and corce of my apraisal is mostly due to the fact that i have not been able to know where they were going with the show. The universe and characters feel so unique to me... and since i watched years worth of movies n shows it is hard to surprise me ^^

The Unhealer
(2020)

so much fun and even kinda likable characters
I loved the story and concept. With a big budget this could have been so huuuuge. Omg, how many trash movies get streaming sponsored production... if just one would have given its resources over to this one.... but hey, it is still a grear flick imo. And the acting of the protagonist is top notch :)

Lovecraft Country
(2020)

my favourite show 2020
I have seen almost all shows that fall under horror/mystery or scifi. This one just made me wait in anticipation for the next episode like no other. When seen so many horror movies and shows (also read a ton), it is quite hard to find something you are surprised by. That actually was what impressed me the most. Even for the ultimate horror nerd, there was a lot that came "out of the blue". At least up until the last two episodes, but thats understandable, cuz it had to built up to the conclusion. I hope with all of my heart this will get another season. These days there are so many different shows and so few that make it further than 1 or 2 seasons. Thank god it isnt on Netflix (if u dont know what I mean, do a little research on their algorythm).

I'll Be Gone in the Dark
(2020)

what an emotional ride this was to me
I love Oswald (not that much of his stand up- it is ok imo, but not that special to me), he just seems like such a nice person and seeing him in any onscreen production always makes me smile somehow. so for this reason alone the whole show was emotional for me. that said: it is a really well done documentary. it is suspensefull, it is always engaging and does not draw out imo. i love the style, the way all involved parties are represented and I also fell in love with the "protagonist/narrator/wife" which mae it really emotional. it also is a great true crime story - which is usually not my cup f tea, but in this case...yeah. loved it.

I See You
(2019)

if you havent seeen a ton of horror/suspense movies before...
...this is a must watch imo and it will most likely surprise u in al the right places.

If u are a horror addict (and I most def am... seen almost 1500 if u can believe it xD), u might be able to put a lot together very soon and this movie will not be very exciting. I could, but it still was a nice ride and I liked the ending they went for, THAT was sth. I didnt excpect becuz most horror goes for

spoiler alert

a bad one.

Dead Dicks
(2019)

so weired...
...and not by any means a masterpiece, but something about it just spoke to me. and more objectivly: it is unique at least :)

The World's End
(2013)

my fav of the cornetto trilogy
Id say, JUST watch it if u liked any other one of the trilogy or if u like horror or sci fy. Do not read anything about this flick and u will have the best kind of experiencing u can have with this movie.

It is one of those u best just watch without knowing anything about.

I did that and was blown away. Became one of my favs of all time ^^ Love it

Killer Therapy
(2019)

yeah, it is not a bad film ...but...
...it really paints a terrible picture of getting help with mental issues. I get that the point is, that the system, an abusive family etc etc can make a person with the wrong genedisposition into even more of a psycho... and there are many ppl out there having no place in a psychjob, thinking they are gods, BUT: everything so severely onesided just doesnt sit right with me. i know what i am talking about when it comes to mental illness. the film sadly depicts any form of therapy and the illness itself very one sided. i know there are more countries with bad health care than with good ones, but nonetheless... maybe its to close to home, since i am involved in helping metally ill and suffer myself, still this movie made me sad. for all the wrong reasons.

Book of Monsters
(2018)

this surprised me starts out mh but turns into fun
Thanks to a user named "Platypuschow" and his review, I gave this a shot. And boy am I gratefull cuz the second half is a ton of fun.

I hate spoilers, so I wont say anything about the plot. Just know that the beginning IMO is really cheesy and very badly acted. I almost gave up after 20 mins. But (ok, the acting of course stays amateurish, the actors dont change, but I found myself not giving a sh... , cuz it was so fun).

If u are a horror fan, this one is worth checking out.

Quicksand
(2019)

Loved it.
Wow, this was such a pleasant surprise. I usually dont watch this type of show, but heck am I glad that I did after beeing intrigued by the words of a fellow reviewer. (Thank you ;)) I remember the comment that convinced me to really give it a try (after beeing disappointed in a ton of shows that came out in the last year or two, often feeling like wasting time and esp beeing angry about many shows I did like getting the x) was: excellent pacing IMO 75percent of shows lack in that regard, but also IMO this show did an amazing job.

I also have to say that the writing and construction of characters felt believable. With the theme they could have gone over the top fairly easy, but they didnt. The show made me really feel with the protagonist. And thus I have to say: I am amazed by the acting. It was so gooooood!

If you even remotely like what you read in the description, dont hesitate to watch because netflix (or any other streaming service) has disappointed you a lot.

IMO you get a lot out of the 6 episodes.

Last but not least, I hope there will be more quality like this and that everyone involved in that show keeps working :)

Russell Brand: Re:Birth
(2018)

Profoundly touching
Well, after using imdb for 9 years, this finally moved me so much, I am writing my First Review. May Not Sound Like a big deal, but I have watched 489 Horror movies (almost as many comedies+other movies of course), watched at least half the shows on Netflix (and many many Others) and 95% of Comedy Specials u can find on utube and Netflix (Yeah, I hadnt have much of a Life for the last 8 years due to severe illness).

Let me Tell you, I am Just speechless. This is Not as much of a Comedy Special but a philosophical monologue about society, the human condition an Life itself. Sounds... Boring? Contrived? Well I think it is still funny in many places. But it also is just Something I think everyone should watch. It feels real in a world where so many ppl dont even recognize what they truly believe and speak Out (social Media frenzy Style) Just to feel Heard, Just to feel Like they exsist becuz there words are on the almighty internet). Maybe I am melancholic today, but the show left me in a state of awe.

I recommend watching to anyone and everyone.

Take care folks
