Kiseijû: Sei no kakuritsu
(2014)

I'd recommend this series to anyone with enough guts
Being adapted from a fairly old manga from the 1980-90s, this anime proves that good stories can stand the test of time in any medium. I watched the entire series of 24 episodes within a single day (yeah, that's how good it is). However, I'd advise the meek of heart against watching it, because the gore within the first few episodes is enough to turn away a fair share of people. Yet, as bloody as some of the scenes are, they never feel unnatural. In fact, the whole series feels very human and it plays with the theme of humanity seamlessly. Without spoiling anything else, I highly recommend this series to anyone who can sit through the first 3 episodes. If you can do that, you'll most likely be hooked.

Justice League vs. Teen Titans
(2016)

Great action, amateur writing
So this 'movie' wasn't a bad idea on paper, but it's the mediocre-fanfiction level writing that holds it back. I enjoyed a lot of the action sequences and seeing some classic characters in animated form (this animation style reminds me of Young Justice, which is a plus). But let's just get to the elephant in the room... Damian Wayne. Having a kid save the day in an action film this scale is not a good idea, especially when he's not supposed to be the main focus. Son of Batman was acceptable because it was his story and not many of the other villains or heroes were involved, but when Superman, Wonderwoman, the Flash and the Teen Titans face up against a villain like Trigon? I thought this was a movie about teamwork! Instead, Damian is portrayed as a Gary Sue who solves all the problems without even breaking a sweat (inability to be a team player is not a flaw in this case because it doesn't even cause him any problems). This is amateur writing... Yet, the action and animation are pretty solid in this movie. If you'd like to see some familiar characters (such as those from the original Teen Titans cartoon), just give this movie a casual shot and don't expect too much.

Xiaolin Showdown
(2003)

It's got style
I remember this show growing up. It had enough going for it that I have a positive view of it years later. Some may say there weren't many shows that stood out in the early 2000s, but I think this is a show with style that sets it apart. Other shows like Jackie Chan Adventures had a similar style of Asian culture mixed with American animation, and this one definitely shares some similarities (heck, both shows came out from the same network). However, I really enjoyed this type of style, and while the characters and story aren't the selling point, the imagination put into some of the concepts got me hooked. It works well in the show, and there's even significant character and plot development moving along (such as the writers bringing back a certain plot point in the past), which is definitely something I really appreciated.

Star vs. the Forces of Evil
(2012)

Hands down my personal favorite
I'm going to say this clearly: I LOVE THIS SHOW. At first it was a fun show where I could just tune in and get some quick entertainment out of, but as we approached the Season 1 finale, I found myself getting more and more invested in it. Sure, the series isn't perfect, but it more than pays off with its characters and the heart put into it. You can tell the creators really had fun making this series. Although there are some story elements that could have been better, the show more than makes up for it with extremely likable characters and a fun premise to follow along. I would recommend people check it out because the entertainment value is high with this one. On the surface, it's a fun little story about the adventures of two teenagers (who have great chemistry together by the way), but as we "dip down" (wink wink), we see that the show is slowly building toward something bigger and grander. Some people may find this buildup a little slow, but I'd say that the best way to watch this show is to just tag along and don't worry too much about the deeper elements. (I really wished this was a show I had growing up, but thankfully I still retain some of my youthful innocence while also understanding some of the more mature topics.) I can't wait to see what the show has in store for us.

Steven Universe
(2013)

A little too great
OK then, here goes. I like this show. It's got great music, a unique art style, and plenty of good characters and development. But I think its biggest problem is that it's too good. Like, seriously, because this show is so popular, other shows aren't getting the attention they need. I don't know if what they say on YouTube is true, but I'm worried that if Cartoon Network gets carried away with just one show, it's going to bring down the other shows on the Network... even the shows on other channels. I don't want it to ruin CN like Spongebob ruined Nick when the creator left; however, as long as Rebecca Sugar is still working on Steven, the quality shouldn't be a problem. However, the popularity could potentially be dangerous to other cartoons. The internet's over-saturated with Steven Universe content. (There are plenty of Youtube channels dedicated to only Steven Universe and not much else). There's such saying that "too much of a good thing is a bad thing", and that's exactly how I feel about a full summer of Steven (for the entire summer of 2016, there have been episodes every two days or so, and it's still ongoing. It's good for the show itself, but other shows have been ignored to a certain extent due to this). The show's definitely good to check out, but please don't get too hung-up on it. There are plenty of other good shows on television, and it's diversity that leads to better entertainment.
