The 355
(2022)

Break the damn chip!
All other flaws aside (and there are many)... fight! Blood! Airplane falls from the sky! Battle! The ONE chip which contains the algorithms which can destroy civilization as we know it is heisted!

Ok... off to Paris to buy it... then... fights! Chases! Destruction! ... and you fail to retrieve the ONE chip which can destroy civilization as we know it!

Then... off to Morraco! Then... chases! Fights! Death! You finally get your hands on the ONE chip which which can destroy civilization as we know it, and what do you do? Break it? Nope! You give it to a single person who ends up alone in an unguarded room and you lose it! More airplanes fall from the sky (airplane killing is a popular sport in this film).

Then... off to the Far East to meet another of Charlie's Angels and... fight! Death! Destruction! You again have the ONE chip which can destroy civilization as we know it! Do you break it? Nope. You keep it with the five very calm and relaxed main characters in an apartment with big windows and no protection. So... break in! Death of loved ones (while you watch)! And!... you again lose the ONE chip which can destroy civilization as we know it! But, miraculously, all of the main characters are left alive.

Then... pursuit! Blow things up! Tons of gunfire! Death all around!

And, as the film is about to wind down... you anticlimactically break the ONE chip which can destroy civilization as we know it. Yawn.

The parting line is a promise of a sequel... please God... NOOOOO!

The worst sin of a movie occurs when it blatantly insults the intelligence of the viewer... and this movie is a continuous series of insults.

And such a waste of talent.

Star Trek: Discovery
(2017)

Needy
The show started out techno-clever with interesting character interactions.

Now all we have is a bunch of needy characters episode after episode. Even the computer is needy. It is exhausting.

I give it a 6 because I still have hope, but the writing is being sucked into a black hole of neediness.

Done
This is insulting.

I am done with this. Period.

But, I need to write at least 150 characters... so...

Everything is wrong. And, those who say people who have read the book should stop whining... more's the pity. This is a terrible adaptation.

When a studio is hand feed an audience that will watch their creation, but knows the story intimately, it is mind boggling to understand their reasoning as to why they feel the need to break every foundational none of that story. It is as though they nothing for their waiting audience and nothing for an author who put their soul into that work.

I will not watch another episode. This show is s sad and pathetic representation of a true work of genius.

The Midnight Sky
(2020)

Oh Well
Mission in space for years. Scientist trying to contact ANYONE! Then... as both make contact, the ship is hit by.... comet, meteor?

Odds? Insane.

I LOVE science fiction and can forgive many things. But this movie is just weird and feels wasted.

Worth watching?.... I guess. Quarantine makes many things seem to be worth watching.

Line of Duty
(2019)

A Mess
Another flick that panders to social media trends.

A strange mix of clever-ish cuteness entwined with a life and death struggle.

The need to feed the egos of a youthful audience (which should be insulting to them) and portray them as tech savvy when they are just average people who seem to know how to use common applications is now the norm evidently.

This is an odd and confused film.

Basically boring.

A Good Ride
I didn't expect much from this. I had not heard anything about it and just rented it on Redbox because I like the genre. But, I loved the pace. The story was interesting. I found myself laughing here and there. It was disturbing, at times humorous and captivating.

All in all, an enjoyable experience.

Uncut Gems
(2019)

Walked Out
Love Adam Sandler, but this movie was a constant barrage of yelling as though the characters could be made believable by sheer force.

Would an in debt gambler really just let someone borrow his million dollar stone (which he had spent months acquiring and was about to send to auction) for the night simply because that person was a celebrity? Most of the movie was pushed by that action. It is too bad it wasn't a more plausible launchpad.

The opening in Africa was interesting but too brief. Actually, it was far more interesting than the rest of the movie.

My wife and I both got bored annoyed by the yelling and decided to leave before the end.

This is only the second movie I have ever left early. They just tried too hard and it showed.

Elton John: Rocket Man
(2017)

Uh... whatever...
Yep. Sure. Vacuous. Oh my... I feel a bit over guided here. But true art is almost beyond comprehension. Perhaps that is what this is... TRUE art. Or perhaps it is just over indulgence. Yes... I agree with myself... it is overindulgence in self pity.

I love Elton John's music and have seen many of his concerts. This film is just an insipid piece of super smelly-ish stuffiness... blah.

What a tragic waste of time.

Aquaman
(2018)

Disappointed
Movieland is saturated by superhero movies. Anymore, I shy away from them because the formula has pretty much been exhausted. I rented this one for a diversion on vacation. My expectations are fairly low these days. I just want an interesting story with good actors which carry the film to the degree that the special effects reinforce them, not carry them. I gave it three stars because it is shiny (not unique shininess though). But the film felt forced and rambling. I took my dog out to pee and didn't miss anything important. It is long and boring. I did think the swirly red scene was interesting visually, but that 30 seconds just seemed to fly bu. If gizmos and big stuff and characters ninja-ing each other work for you then this will be acceptable. If you yearn for semi-original, somewhat cohesive content, you may be disappointed. Too long... too ordinary.
