The Retirement Plan
(2023)

Entertaining... and that'll do for me!
I've always liked Nicolas Cage, and what a prolific actor he's been over the decades.

I don't know what people expect? It's not meant to an art house production! It's a non stop action comedy, with some great moments.

Maybe I'm just not the sort of person to appreciate true cinematic art, which is fine by me, seeing as this movie certainly entertained us both.

It's lots of movies reviewed on here, often you'll see a high score, we watch it, only to find it's not what others seem to see.

But that's the beauty of opinion, it's all subjective.

Give it a watch, you might be pleasantly surprised.

So easy to pan things, but make up your own mind.

Muppets Now
(2020)

I Could Do A Better Kermit... Unwatchable
I've watched everything "Muppet" since the original UK TV show in the 70s. I love the Muppets.

After Jim Henson died, Steve Whitmore did a great job in keeping Kermit sounding pretty close to his creators vocal characteristics.

Over the years, various actors have taken over the roles of different characters, but it's never been that jarring as the new Kermit.

He just isn't Kermit... I just can't settle with the new voice. I don't know what Steve Whitmore did to lose the job, but Disney need to get him back, or find a more suitable replacement, and quick.

It's like having Mickey Mouse speaking with a deep, aggressive gangster style accent all of a sudden... Disney just wouldn't do it. Mickeys' voice has had to be recast in recent years, but its still Mickey.

I don't like the format, and Kermit just ruins it for me.

It's a big shame, we were all looking forward to this new Muppet project... what a let down.

The 15:17 to Paris
(2018)

No Preconceptions Before Watching
We watched this film yesterday evening on Sky Cinema. As it was a very recent "news" event I remembered what the three Americans did.

I didn't really want to watch it, but my Wife pressed on regardless, and we watched it.

I have to say I enjoyed it. I'm not a movie reviewer, just someone who sat and watched a film, so I have no fancy parlance to describe what we watched. It was just a good film. The event on the train probably played out in almost real time, so the main characters back story was the only way this could be expanded to 90 minutes, and I think Clint Eastwood did a great job.

As we reached the end of the movie where President Hollande was giving out medals, I assumed that they'd used CGI to superimpose the actors into the news footage. It wasn't until the end of the film that I realised that the real life individuals had played themselves. What a fantastic job they did!

Like I say I'm just some average, middle aged, Englishman who got pressed into watching a film that his Wife wanted to watch... I liked it, I liked it a lot. Good film. Surprised by the low IMDB score.

Brave men.

Thanks for reading.
