Barnaby Jones
(1973)

Dead Eye Barnaby
I just finished watching all 178 episodes of Barnaby Jones. I watched a few of them off and on back when they were first run. My parents loved this show.

I agree with others, the show went down hill starting with season 5. In the last couple of seasons, Buddy pretty much and sometimes literally "phoned it in". I admit to frequent use of "fast forward" towards the end of the series. There were a few good episodes near the end, but only a few. The last episode is definitely not how they wanted to go out. Obviously, another attempt to start a spin-off, which fortunately did not happen.

As fun as some of it was to watch, things like "chain of evidence" and other legal issues didn't seem to be important to the writers.

Dead-eye Barnaby. He was a great shot, often shooting from the hip. Somehow he killed lots of bad guys in the first part of the series, but later, he alway wounded the bad guy in the shoulder, arm, or hand. The Lone Ranger school of shooting. Also notice, never any blood, other than a stain here or there.

His six attempts to further the career of his daughter Bonnie were not pretty. She was a pretty good looking woman with below average talent. They were probably both very nice people.

CHiPs: Ponch's Angels: Part 2
(1981)
Episode 15, Season 4

Many Beauties & A Surprise
Probably no CHiPs episode deserves an "8", but I upgraded this two part episode for a few reasons.

Gorgeous women in their prime: Trisha Townsend Barbara Stock Cindy Morgan of Caddy Shack fame Barbi Benton of Playboy fame & Randi Oakes, now a regular cast member

Did you notice that Trisha and Barbara were actually riding their motorcycles in several slow speed scenes. Most impressive was Trisha in the parking lot, Part 1, without a helmet.

Limited use of ramps!

The above ladies did a pretty good job acting. It's really too bad that Trisha didn't pursue acting, she was beautiful and it seems like she had a future if she wanted it.

Animal Kingdom: Incognito
(2022)
Episode 7, Season 6

I love this show, hate to see it go.
You hate to root for the bad guys, but let's face it, almost everyone in this show is bad.

So the question is

Who will go to prison?

Who will get away?

Who will die?

I think there will be some of each.

Not many episodes left.

West Side Story
(1961)

1961, not 2022
Those that give it a poor rating, obviously you have no concept of the world as it was in 1961.

Yes, Natalie Wood's voice was dubbed in after the filming. Too bad, she actually could sing.

What I know for sure, in 1961, Natalie Wood was the hottest young actress on the planet. 12 years younger than Marilyn Monroe.

The music is good, many of the songs are great, many are forgettable.

Does it hold up compared to the recent remake. Yes, they are comparable.

Virgin River
(2019)

Seasons 1 & 2 pretty good. Season 3 NOT
This show is now a daytime soap opera. Terrible writing. The music even fits what's happening which is nothing.

The Guest
(2014)

Entertaining, then stupid, then funny
We liked it for the first 2/3, lots of action.

Then when the army guys get involved the action became unrealistic and Keystone Cops like.

It got to the point of being funny.

Still, it was entertaining even after all of that.

No problem with the actors, they seem to be well cast.

Spectre
(2015)

Really good Bond Film
This Bond film has one of, if not the best Bond movie intros ever made.

If you have a truly stellar audio system with multiple subwoofers, the sub-sonic material, especially in the intro, is amazing. It will move the room.

Invisible Invaders
(1959)

Hilarious, fun, and short (67 minutes)
Super low budget everything. Fun to watch.

There are some proven first rate actors in this movie but they really don't have anything to work with in the script or budget.

Keeping the aliens invisible was definitely a money saver:)

Non-Transferable
(2017)

Didn't get very far.
The premise is good, unfortunately execution is poor. Couldn't finish this movie.

Production quality, writing, and directing are all poor.

Northern Rescue
(2019)

Characters OK, Not Realistic
The rescue portions of this show are a joke. The ladies are all pretty good.

Baldwin's character is bad, would never be a good leader, but I blame that on the writing/directing.

Christina on the Coast
(2019)

She fooled me.
We've watched all of the Flip Or Flops. It's a watchable show and when Christina speaks directly to the camera, she's not very good. But, overall we thought she was the big draw because of her looks, mostly.

Well, in this new show, she's fully exposed and it's not pretty.

It's more of a social media Hollywood look at me, I'm pretty, show. One thing for sure, she'll never make it as an actress.

Out of Control
(2009)

Only one reason to watch
This movie is an average to poor "made for TV" movie.

There's only one reason to watch, Laura Vandervoort. One of the most beautiful woman in the world, and she can actually act.

The writing and directing are the main problem and some of the supporting cast is also pretty weak.

Easter Under Wraps
(2019)

This is lame, but we still like it.
Some really bad writing, I feel sorry for the actors. Fiona is a top notch actress.

At one point I said "this is lame". My wife said, "they all are, and they're predictable, but that's why we like them."

Bottled with Love
(2019)

Basically "You've Got Mail" meets Hallmark
Not exactly original but we still liked it, mainly because of the leads.

Bethany wasn't so in your face "happy and smiling" all of the time. Good to see.

The Meg
(2018)

Way better than expected.
And way better than any similar movie I've seen in the last year.

Yes, it is as predictable as a Hallmark movie but it was entertaining. I usually end up fast forwarding through these types of movies (like the latest Jurassic movie) but I watched the whole thing.

The little girl was a standout, just like they planned.

Whiskey Cavalier
(2019)

Almost shut it off in the first 5 minutes.
But, then I realized what it was. Comedy spy-FBI thing. Actually, pretty good for now.

Think "Chuck" with some blood.

Mayynot quite as good yet but some good laughs.

Bohemian Rhapsody
(2018)

Movie 8, Music 10, Production 10, Dolby Atmos Sound Track 10
Obviously some big timeline deceptions in the movie.

As a bio pic, it was OK. Some humor throughout.

But, the music all the way through was great. The 20 min Live Aid concert recreation added to the 4k UHD disc is also great. The bass drum moves the room.

I remember when the song came out. Didn't realize that the "experts" gave it bad reviews. It was clear to most that Bohemian Rhapsody was a masterpiece.

NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Once Upon A Tim
(2019)
Episode 14, Season 16

Love NCIS but not this episode.
The technical internet/computer parts of this episode are ridiculous.

Starting with the first scene in which young Tim blows up a pole mounted power transformer with his dial up modem and continuing through the rest of the show.

Proven Innocent
(2019)

10 Minutes
I only made it ten minutes. Don't have any issues with the lead actress but writing, not so good.

The first scene, she goes to a isolated house to get a DNA sample of a murder suspect, by herself.

Went downhill from there.

The Story of Us
(2019)

Not great.
Yes, it's another save the whales, or in this case, the old business district, especially the book store run by his high school girlfriend.

Haven't they heard about online bookstores? Getting evicted doesn't mean you have to close your business, unless you're just looking for an excuse to get out.

Really, this formula is getting very old, Christmas movie, or Valentines Day movie.

Maggie is the show. The supporting cast is either bad or had a poor script to work with.

D-Tox
(2002)

Not exciting, very average
Cliffhanger is a great Stallone movie, this is not.

Despite a large number of veteran actors, it's just OK.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day
(1991)

A masterpiece in 1991 and still in 2019
I saw this in the theater in 1991. I don't give out 10's often, but this along with Aliens is deserving.

I bought this movie on laser disc and watched it many times on my 35" NEC monitor. Now with my 75" flat screen and 7.4.4 Dolby Atmos system, it's still great.

XII
(2008)

Not good. I only gave it a 5 because Nick Searcy is in it.
Nick Searcy is the only real actor in this movie and he is hampered by bad writing and directing.

The two female leads are pretty bad.

The plot is a typical crazed revenge type going after a list of people. That can work but not in this case.

Catch a Christmas Star
(2013)

Not bad for Hallmark
OK, so my Hallmark ratings have their own scale. Below 5 means I didn't finish it.

I think 8 is the highest I've given one.

Yes, the 12 year old daughter is unrealistically wise for her age. I guess the writers don't have kids.

It looks like Shannon was actually doing her own singing. I thought her acting was actually pretty good. And, she is more beautiful than ever.

Yes, it has an ending, pretty much like all of the other Hallmark movies.

Little Italy
(2018)

It's OK
Accents all over the place.

Alyssa's been eating lots of pizza! She's pretty annoying.
