MacGyver
(1985)

The Way Shows Should Be
We all know there isn't much to look forward to on television today; the original content today just doesn't actually end up that good, with a few exceptions. Because of that, since everything is streaming nowadays, it's a great time to go back and revisit all the classic series from the past when TV was great.

Enter MacGyver, practically a household name even today when half the population doesn't actually know who he is, they still understand the reference. This series is always inventive, and it is a great choice for some quality tv. Of course he always finds himself in a pickle, but the circumstances don't seemed contrived just to put him in the precarious position, it is good writing that makes it natural that he would of course parachute from a burning plane over Afghanistan, get covered with crazy flesh-eating ants, etc :D. I would suggest everyone give this a try. If you haven't seen an episode before, at least you'll actually understand the phrase "MacGyver it".

The Rookie: The List
(2023)
Episode 10, Season 5

What idiot acid trip were the writers on this ep?
First, wth with the flaky outfit scene - is anyone supposed to believe that Tim is all "omg, whatever will I wear!" And come on, please, NO ONE wants to see Chen and Tim together. No one. Second, after reading how stupid the officers were all through the episode I would have thought it exaggerated, until I watched it myself. Yes, that stupid "good guy with a gun" scene was wet newbie liberal Hollywood writing. Remember when you used to have to have talent to write on a tv show? Then they shoddily chase the suspects, and seriously, you shot the Goldfish????? That's some cold stuff from some softy lefty writers. And here's a tip - when a car is teetering on a ledge, if you swing the car doors FORWARD, that will MOVE the center of gravity and that car's immediately going over. Conversely, if two grown men sitting in the front of a car teetering on a ledge manage to exit the car, it is NOT then going to go over. Less weight now. It's science, people. Last, do I even need to bring up that totally annoying FBI rookie? Good heavens, that character and actress if she's anything like her character is the most annoying person on the planet. Please never let us see her again. Now please please please let Chen and Tim get in an argument over clothes or something and let them break up. Please.

Goliath: It's Time
(2021)
Episode 8, Season 4

I get it...the writiers are hooked on opiods
That's the only explanation for their inept political attempt to, as Billy whines in his completely implausible pulpit-preaching answer from the witness stand, "make sure there are no billionaires or big pharmaceutical companies left". Get a grip people, not ONCE did they discuss all the opiod crap flowing across our borders on a daily basis with their low-lifers standing on the street corners dishing it out -- no, they go after the companies who manufacture a product to help those in paid, prescribed by doctors who control who gets a prescription. Let's get all the illegal crap off the street before we decide that we need to ban pain relief for those who suffer; and oh it has to be because of a rich person. Hollywood just needs to go quietly die now so we can move on and find entertainment again.

Sweet Revenge: A Hannah Swensen Mystery
(2021)

Why the poor adaptation?
Having read the entire book series, I am wondering why they made so many needless changes. Shipping Andrea and Bill off to Seattle? Making Michelle annoying, and having her drift around the globe instead of attending college? The book series has Hannah and her sisters being much closer. And excuse me, Ronnie isn't the evil twit anymore? All these changes are unnecessary. Plus Norman is the clear choice Hannah should end up with. Having her be engaged to Mike doesn't seem to serve a purpose. Joanne Fluke wrote a good series that her readers love, so why change it? I do like the new mother though as opposed to the movies. She seems much more realistic. As usual Alison Sweeney is a great Hannah, and Norman is great also.

Turning Red
(2022)

My First Unwatchable Disney/Pixar Film
This. Just. Sucked. What was the purpose of this? There had to be committees deciding which Pixar movies get made, right, so what group of people sitting around a table thought this was a great Disney/Pixar film? Girls won't like this just because you think you're being relatable by shoving the things girls *don't* want to discuss with strangers, or even family, right on screen where they have to all sit together and pretend it's not uncomfortable. May some people say "aww, you just have hang-ups"? Maybe, but that's a minority and if they want to make a movie for a small minority - say those that like to host a dinner party and sit down to talk about menstruation and hot dreams, go for it. Otherwise, hopefully lesson learned and they can do better next time.

Queens of Mystery
(2019)

Great Seties
As others have stated, this is a lighter series, not a hard-core thriller. It is very enjoyable, and I ended up really liking the narration much more than I thought I would. I especially love how she describes everything in "days, hour, minutes, and seconds" 😀. I am disappointed that we only get six episodes per season though, but it should keep it fresh! I am not sure how I feel about the Aunts, even as I am into season 2, but they aren't unlikeable. Give it a try!

Hawkeye
(2021)

A Winner
Both The Book of Boba Fett and Hawkeye came out around the same time, and I started both. I was not at all impressed with Boba Fett, but Hawkeye was a win. As a bonus, look for a surprise villain to appear! I thought that the characters all did a good job, and with the exception of what you expected to happen at the very very end, it was not predictable nor cliche. Very happy to have seen that - but do your eyes and ears a favor, and do NOT watch the after-credit bonus that Marvel likes to add - normally I love those but this was really bad 😂😂. Those that saw it will know exactly what I mean.

The Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World
(2021)
Episode 8, Season 1

This episode was just bad.
Overall I liked the series, and taken as a whole I would give it an 8. This episode, however, garners a 1. It was the finale, shouldn't this be the best of the series? I have not read the books, so I have no preconceptions that disillusion me. This was bad because....what? What exactly happened? The "dark one" (more like a latin casanova) is defeated in a few seconds. He never seemed that scary to begin with, and why is he dark? Was there a storyline that I missed that detailed his descent to become the dark one? The cowardly-lion of a pudz allows the sleazy freak from Two Rivers to kill all the guards, and then steal the chest. I expected the yellow-eyed monster to rear its head - what was that all about anyway if they weren't even going to bring that back and use it? He could have killed the sleazy thief and redeemed himself somewhat, but honestly, I rather wish he would have just died episodes ago. He contributes absolutely nothing to the story and is just a coward over and over. All in all, it was just disappointing and if there is one I highly doubt I'll watch a second season.

Debris
(2021)

One of the best 2021 Shows
Obviously things were a little back up after the pandemic, and that included new TV shows. Thank goodness, Debris was an unexpected treat. Maybe I had mediocre hopes so my high rating is a result of how much I ended up enjoying it, but then again, I did end up really enjoying it, and isn't that what the ratings are for? I enjoy the scenes and the script, and yes the sci-fi aspect is well done. True the male lead is the only character that I would say is excellent, but I don't hate any of the other characters (acting-wise I mean), and they do a good-enough job. It is a good series worth watching, and I'm hoping it continues on.

Good Girls
(2018)

It's Bad Girls. Just call it Bad Girls.
This was an ok show, nothing that would evoke strong emotions. The problem was, these stupid, stupid girls that make me cringe as a woman, make the same stupid mistakes over and over and over.... The first season, or at least maybe half a season, was ok. The issues were original at least. After that, it was recycled "let me steal from the drug lord", "let me try and go straight", "let me try and kill the drug lord"....you get the idea - they cheat the bad guy that will kill them in new ways, but it's the same plot; they are darn sure going straight this time for sure and forever, until the end of the episode, and then next time they are darn sure going straight for sure and forever; if they just kill the bad guy that will kill them then all will be well, except that doesn't work and now they're in trouble, so if they just kill the bad guy that wants to kill them all will be....oh yeah, that doesn't work either. You see the problem here? Different theft, different weapon, same plot redone ad nauseum. And I didn't mention the FBI agent who is gonna catch them but ends up not by unfortunate events, so FBI agent two is gonna catch them but...yeah, that's where I cried uncle.

What If...?: What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger?
(2021)
Episode 1, Season 1

This was....Bad.
This was just not a good episode. The animation was fine, yes the pacing may be a little fast but that too was ok - it was the story itself that was not good. The awesome thing about Peggy Carter is, she's awesome. Why would she need to turn in to some hulked-out steroid-bot in order to be considered special? Ok maybe it was the animation, in as far as the way they drew her. Steve Rogers in the Hydra-Stomper was great. Most of it was great. Peggy was awesome as-is...maybe some things just shouldn't change :).

Midsomer Murders
(1997)

Another British Success
Score another one for an exception British series that I love to watch. Since Covid slowed new TV to a trickle, I have had the pleasure of discovering many new series. This started in 1997, and has been good quality through the eleven seasons I've watch so far. I am enjoying continuing on with this.

Resident Alien
(2021)

Comedy As It Should Be
This is just.... Great. It is superb. I love Alan Tudyk (Firefly fan here), and Corey Reynolds as the Sheriff does a great job, quite the departure from his role in The Closer. This is great, and I recommend it to all. I feel like saying "This is some bulls***" all the time :D. Give it a watch!

Murdoch Mysteries
(2008)

A Wonderful Series
I am so pleased to have stumbled on this series. It is magnificent. The characters are hilarious, and every episode is entertaining. I especially love how George is "inventing" many things that we have today, such as "frizbang" (frizbee) "homecation" (staycation) and other odd things that pop up every few episodes. I am so pleased that it has lasted 14 seasons, and hope for several more! Kudos to the cast for an excellent job in every episode.

Blindspot: Head Games
(2020)
Episode 5, Season 5

The Whinefest episode
Please Stooooppppp whhhiiiiiiiinnnning! The was the "listen to Kurt whine" episode, and once again you can skip it. Sheesh.

Locke & Key
(2020)

Enjoyable
I liked this series, and the ending - oh my! I'm glad there's a season two, and I am not sure why everyone says the writing is lazy - I would say don't be deterred, watch for yourself and decide. I found it intriguing and yes it definitely had twists that you may not see coming, when so many show anymore really don't have surprise twists.

October Faction
(2020)

Entertaining
I found the show entertaining. I watched it with my daughter and we enjoyed it, looking forward to another season. Too bad it was canceled; I would still recommend it to anyone wanting to watch though, as I don't think not having a second season will ruin the first. It is enjoyable as it stands as a one-seasoner.

The Blacklist: Brothers
(2020)
Episode 17, Season 7

Unnecessary Digression
This was not a good episode. The extended trip down memory lane was totally unnecessary and took away from the series, rather than add to it. Skip this and move on to the next.

DCI Banks
(2010)

Excellent From Start To Finish
This is another excellent show in the vein of Shetland. I am glad I got to watch the series from start to finish. Each season was fresh with a new and interesting plot. I could go on, but most everything has been covered in the other positive reviews.

Blindspot: Check Your Ed
(2019)
Episode 9, Season 4

Gimmick Episode Easily Skippable
I don't know why writers think these opium-induced wonderland episodes are interesting; they're not, they're just annoying. Skip to episode 10.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
(2018)

This is quality programming
Kiernan Shipke is a delight. After watching the first episode, I can't imagine a different actress for the role of Sabrina. The show itself is well-written, and the cast all fit very well together. I am excited to have an entire season to watch, and am already psyched for season two!

Tell Me a Story: Chapter 1: Hope
(2018)
Episode 1, Season 1

Tell Me A Story - If Only!
I waited patiently for this to premiere, with high hopes. Alas, there is no "story" here. This also has nothing to do with a retelling of fairy tales - that was completely misleading. Most of the episode was spent taking digs at Trump. Do not waste any viewing time on this.

Shetland
(2013)

Never Disappoinfs
This is a superb series. The writing is great and well thought-out, something that is missing in most shows today. The pace is excellent. This series could go on for dozens of seasons and would still hold my interest. Add this to your must-have watch list!

Avengers: Infinity War
(2018)

This is the worst of the Marvel Universe
I love all the Marvel movies - well, until now. It doesn't seem that the movie ends so much as two-thirds of the way in the writers got bored and said "let's just phone in a bunch of failures and quit. Note: bad guy winning doesn't automatically make dramatic tension. And you can't just write the characters acting stupid to make them lose. If you'd done your job, there could have been legitimate reasons for failure, not just you writing "even though their lives are at stake and they are seconds away from getting off Thanos's glove, let's have Chris's Pratt say 'No! I will not hold on one second and beat on him after you get the glove off, I will do it now!' because darn it, it's too tough to expect us to come up with a good reason they fail." How about having some of Thanos's followers show up and prevent it? There are so many other problems with the last third, I swear it was written completely separate from the rest. AnAndd what about a simple "The battle continues in..." All in all, skip this one and wait for the next.

Iron Fist
(2017)

My Least Favorite Marvel Series
This moves painfully slow, to the point of agony. I grew up on the Marvel comics, love the whole superhero genre, but this lacks so much. I have noticed a consistent decline in each progressive series; as if the writers are phoning it in and figuring we'll see Marvel and not give a crap about quality. Please try harder in future series!
