Qarib Qarib Singlle
(2017)

As good as I had expected
Before writing a review I generally go through all the reviews written before mine to have a better idea of my own understanding. However they make me feel like I am attending an award function were high marks are deliberately being given to select actors. Coming back to the movie, it is a story of two lonely people who meet each other through a dating site. You will have to watch the movie to find out what happens next. The movie pace is okay and the direction is very good. Irrfan and Parvathy, both are fabulous in their roles. The cameos do not offer anything great and in turn hinder the pace of the movie. One of the good things is that both the characters have some back stories and they are explained to viewers with the flow of the movie. Conversations between characters are not too long but eventful. So they do not bore you. Although the story is not that strong, yet performances and direction overcome them up to a great extent.

They worked so hard on the suspense that they forgot to review the flaws
The director of this film seems to have worked hard to give his audience the chills and thrills that they want to see in such a movie, and he succeeds too. They audiences will remain hooked throughout making guesses only to be proved wrong. The film has an unpredictable climax and this makes it a watchable thriller too. However, in midst of all that there are some questions that remain there till the end. In acting, Sonakshi Sinha disappointingly has put up a week show. Akshay Khanna is awesome while Siddharth Malhotra does what he always does. Mandira Bedi has nothing to do in her cameo and the remaining cast is okay. I will go with 9/10 because such movies deserve being made in Bollywood.

Jab Harry Met Sejal
(2017)

SRK could not save this film
The story bounces between locations and ultimately gets deflated. I had to think a multiple times why was I watching this. How can a family leave a soon to wed girl at an improperly explored place relying on a least known person? I am not being orthodox, just putting forward a reality. And why is the girl so irritating? Looking at one location was enough. So the film is completely artificial, unrealistic, and incommunicable after half an hour. Shahrukh Khan has poured out the best from his heart and has acted superbly, but its his middle aged look that makes you think how awkward this romantic pair is. A 50+ actor pretends to be in his 30s and this is unbearable!! A young lead pair could have made it a bit convincing, but this is definitely a disaster. Imtiaz Ali had ample scope for modifying this excellent metaphoric subject but he failed terribly here. I expected something great but could not get even something good.

Judwaa 2
(2017)

Bollywood is not progressing because of this
Rating: NA Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor said that Bollywood makes garbage movie because film lovers don't want to watch good movies. This is partly true. Cine goers seek entertainment, not preaching documentaries. However Bollywood has always been best when it mixes entertainment with light moments and some lessons. Whenever such movies are made they work wonders. Judwaa 2 does not fall in that category. It is a typical pot boiler that takes Indian film industry and audience 20 years back to a senseless subject for over two hours and you are forced to move out before your head blasts. There was no point in making the remake of a typical comedy that makes you smile even today. With added loudness and overacting by the three leads, this movie is an indigestible Masala.

Baadshaho
(2017)

So Ajay Devgan and team spent a whole year to come up with this
The Baadshaho team travelled miles and spent over a year to make the film. Any one who would hear this would say the movie must be very good and well made. "Aah!"- this is what you say after watching this movie. The trailer itself was sadly unimpressive. Coming to the movie, when you have a team of six in which two are great actors, one is good and the other three do nothing but make faces throughout the film, you know that the film would sink. Surprisingly, acting is not a flaw here. Its the story that is so weak and badly presented that you keep getting bored and a time comes when you give up on your expectations. Don't anticipate greatness and the movie will be watchable.

Pehredaar Piya Ki
(2017)

Come on.. Afaan Khan is a kid
This show has met with serious criticism right from the day its first promo was out. The creators tried to make a point saying that it has got a new idea. The problem with Indian soap writers is that they don't want to grow. They don't want to come out of their theme of local rural touch of caste and power in their writings. Balika Vadhu and Bhagya Vidhata were major successes that had traditional elements. The writers of Pehredaar Piya Ki simply listed out the needed recipe for success, got stuck to the Balika Vadhu story, and decided to do things upside down. We have many examples from all over the world where couples have great age disparities, but guess what, they all knew what they are doing. They were not kids at the time of their marriage. If a kid has a photogenic face and can act before the camera, Indian parents begin feeling blessed and force their kids in the factual world of Serials, reality shows and cinema to make money out of them. Looks like same is the case here. we all have freedom to speech and to express, but that doesn't mean you can go ahead with any kind of content. There are still great topics to be explored. We started with 'hum log', advanced to Ye Jo Hai Zindagi and Zamana Badal Gaya Hai, understood a lot of things in Office Office and then suddenly were forced back to medieval times with these childish and pathetic serials.

I will call it a Masterpiece
We have seen a number of over hyped Hollywood movies. We are driven so much by their reviews that even if we find mistakes in them, we simply ignore and forcibly call them great considering that mistake as an intended clue with deeper meaning. But when it comes to Bollywood movies, the first thing anyone would think is that they are childishly colourful, full of songs, and irrelevant drama. This perception prevents us from calling even great movies good. This is where people misunderstand Bollywood. Every one will be comparing it with Shawshank redemption, just because it focuses on jail life. But how many people compare the Shawshank redemption and the green mile saying that they derived inspirations? Spoilers ahead: Many people get confused with the ending, but the answer to that confusion is given much before that. Naseeruddin Shah in one scene tells Juhi Chawla, "I am a good actor, even you are. 90% of the people are always acting". The movie explores sin, guilt, and redemption in a beautiful way contrasting three lives that will relate to almost everyone. Its not just about prison cell, its much more than that.

Bareilly Ki Barfi
(2017)

Pure fun until you don't try to be Sherlock Holmes
If Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania was a modern take on DDLJ, Bareilly Ki Barfi up to some extent is a modern take on Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt's Saajan. The former was less comedy and more drama and this one comes with more comedy and less drama. The characters are very well chosen and the screenplay gives you light moments to keep smiling throughout the film. Most of the time you remain neutral on who is going to get the girl. The movie has been edited at places to keep the length short and this is where many people will find holes, in the last half an hour. Overall the movie is an excellent one time watch with family.

Agni Pareeksha
(1981)

Thrilling!
B R Chopra never let cine lovers down. His every movie used to be thoughtful packed with great performances. Amol Palekar played a somewhat negative role and nailed it completely. The movie gave me goosebumps towards the end. The story was good and was acted well. 8 stars for this a bit unknown, but good thriller.

Jagga Jasoos
(2017)

Jagga is lovable, but i hated the editing
I did not enjoy it fully, yet would rate it 10/10 just because we don't get such movies often. Bollywood deserves to grow and should make movies that are out of the box even if they do not fit with the audience taste. This film Jagga Jasoos is missing the line of perfection by a small margin only because of editing. Many are claiming that it loses connection with the audience in the second half, and I agree with that. I was with the movie throughout trying to connect scenes but could not succeed due to jumps between scenes. This must have been indeed a very longer movie and the director Anurag Basu could have chosen to release it in two parts like Gangs of Wasseypur. That could have served better. Ranbir Kapoor and Saswata Chatterjee have done excellent job. Saurabh Shukla is very good. I don't expect anything from Katrina Kaif, but she somewhat managed to surprise me. What hurt me was the role of Sayani Gupta. She hardly had a dialogue, don't know why she was wasted. Same was with Rajatava Dutta. All the characters seem to have a story of their own but looks like all those scenes were chopped off.

Chennai Express
(2013)

Its SRK's energy that keeps the movie afloat
No story, Rare audience connect and irrelevant scenes; yet this film was a blockbuster. This could raise questions on the mindset of Indian audiences. Was it SRK's huge fan following, or dearth of a comedy movie, or collaboration of SRK with Rohit Shetty and Deepika Padukone that pulled the audience to theatres in such a large number. I think it was the goofy and highly energetic act By Shahrukh Khan that was worth a watch. Watch it only for SRK.

Bãhubali 2: The Conclusion
(2017)

A Grand Visual Treat
Baahubali film series is something India can always be proud of. Despite having an ordinary story, they are the top notch performances and visuals that make this worth watching. You enjoy it thoroughly and in the end you have to say "I don't care how illogical the story was, I am going to watch this again and again." This is the power of Baahubali, Bhallaldeva, Devasena and all. They don't let you to rest your eyes away. South Indian film industry has always transcended liberties in depicting action sequences. The hero would touch a villain and he would land on some other planet. Baahubali too has such moments, although in limit. Devasena swings her sword and people around start performing acrobatics as if they are seriously hurt, Baahubali runs on an inclined plank without landing his feet etc. However lets keep these things aside and enjoy this great film. Cheers!!

Dangal
(2016)

This is cinema
Around 1500-1700 movies in all languages release in India in a year. 100 of them are the most awaited ones. 25 prove to be actually good, and 2 to 3 movies transcend expectations. Dangal is one such movie. It is a must watch for every Bollywood lover. I don't want to say much about this movie, because its an experience, not a story. Kudos to the team.

Half Girlfriend
(2017)

talented actors with script that is not up to the mark
Chetan Bhagat is the king of youth oriented novels in the present scenario and is status is undisputed. However film makers must realise that when they adapt a novel into a film they need some solid cinematic deviations in order to keep the audience thrilled and stuck to their seats. The greatest example of it is 3 idiots. I haven't seen any commercial movie or a potboiler based on a novel reach the kind of excellence 3 idiots had. Arjun Kapoor is a very good actor and so is Shraddha Kapoor. You cannot complain about actors because they have done proper justice with what they were asked to do. What disappoints me about such movies is repetitiveness in script. Its been long since we watched a fresh love story and Half Girlfriend offers nothing new.

Hindi Medium
(2017)

Amazing!
If you ask me to define this movie in one word, I have mentioned it in the title above. This movie is one of those rare and brave attempts that try to explain the social situation rising above melodramas and unnecessary actions. The pure innocence of the story makes you feel it thanks to the brilliant acts by the Superstar Irrfan Khan, Award winning actor Deepak Dobriyal, and the very cool Amrita Singh. We have seen Saba Qamar in Pakistani dramas and we know what an amazing actress she is. She keeps the magic going here too. Hats off to Saket Chaudhary for weaving this movie beautifully.
