Piazza delle cinque lune
(2003)

Enjoyable but not wow
I didn't remember I had watched it a long long time ago until into the last part of the movie. Not so bad but, as it happens with many Italian movies where the voices of Italian actors are dubbed, the accent and intonation feels forced and sometimes weird. But it's not a huge problem.

I remember Aldo Moro's kidnapping very well. It was a very troubled time also in Argentina with the damn terrorists, so I was very aware of the implications. I also know quite a bit of the loggia P2 ( P-due) and the Ambrosiano Bank case because it had relation with some corrupt politicians in Argentina. But for someone who didn't live at the time or didn't care about that, I think he would have had a difficult time figuring out who Aldo Moro was and what they were talking about saying P2 and in English. At least in Argentina, it was always called in Italian P-due, the loggia massonica P2.

Another thing. Even when I still didn't remember I had watched it before, it was too obvious Giancarlo Giannini character had something to do with the case. Maybe it was just me, but it looked crystal clear.

But all the same, it was quite a nice movie.

Matlock
(1986)

It was good, until season 7.
All the changes of cast they say it was because it was always Griffith and almost nothing the other actors. The best were the two P. I.s and Nancy Thomas. And Don Knotts. When they changed to put Billy and the new daughter...ufff. Billy was stupid. The daughter, insufferable. Besides, the same actress was a client who tried to make a pass on the old geezer only a few episodes back. And the plots suddenly were idiotic. Obviously they changed someone in the crew of writers or something else happened. It looked more like a farce. It was never about credibility, because it was just a tv show but this time I'd jumped parts because I was feeling my neurons were trying to commit suicide out of boredom and disgust over losing time.

One of the true stories that must be taught in school
Very good movie. The story is awful but it was shown without excess, not overdoing the gruesome aspects and yet not saving anything. Good direction, edition and casting. The actors had done a good job. Nice work in showing the time and uses: set decoration, costume design, makeup. Nothing is out of tone. Whenever you hear someone saying socialism is what we need, make them watch this movie. Noone needs socialism, no matter if in the russian way or the nazi one, nor Cuban, Chinese or any kind of socialism. And noone needs any kind of politics that take away your rights. If you need spies and violence to keep people's will, then you know it's not good.

PD I knew I've already seen the actress that play Sarah. I thought she was American because she sounds very American. I've just checked on her and she's the star of Borgen, the excelent Danish tv show!

Prime Suspect
(2011)

Another probe that TV executives are clueless
How is that any excellent TV show has been canceled in recent years while horrible shows were renewed year after year? Shows with high ratings and good critics were terminated without hesitating. Some reason that has nothing to do with doing a good job must be the cause. If not, it is impossible to understand that a show like Prime Suspect is finished after a flawless first season.

Even the pilot episode was perfect. That's very rare. Typically, a show needs 2 or even 3 episodes until it gets what it needs to be a hit.

In the Prime Suspect case, the casting was very good. The direction, also very good. The script, impeccable. The performance, perfect. It was only natural that the public chose to support it. What else might want the TV executives?

I guess all those cancelations must be related to a matter of sympathy or not between the executives and those who make the shows. I can't think of any other excuse. But whatever the reason, they destroyed the possibility of giving the public a product that could have lasted at least a decade. What a waste!

I Melt with You
(2011)

Technically,good movie. Morally,disgusting.
The photography is very good. The actors, also very good. Rob Lowe cried as if he were really hurting. The scenery, superb. What else can you say about Big Sur! The house which they rented, beautiful. All complemented perfectly. It's really a very good movie. The story, powerful and hard to swallow. But, please, don't you dare to watch it if you are having a bad time in your life. It's 100% pessimistic.

Since the moment they arrived to the house, they all immersed themselves in drugs and alcohol.I will never understand the fascination you (some)Americans have with drugs and alcohol. The music they hear and the occasion are in perfect match. For a moment, image and sound reminded me of "Zabriskie Point".It was almost like going back to the psychedelic era. But forget about flowers. After the first half of the movie, all spirals down. By the end I felt it was Thelma & Louise all over again! Well, not that much, but close. At least,in this movie you know why.

Knowing why they all four end doesn't mean is less absurd than in Thelma & Louise. The disgusting part is they are too old to be so stupidly immature and coward.

It's good they chose to film in Big Sur. At least you can use those beautiful scenes to abstract yourself out of the despair.

To cut it short, this is not a movie for adolescents.I would go further.People who aren't in perfect psychological health can't and mustn't watch this movie. This technically good movie has no moral and no escape to its despair.

Tchaikovsky
(1970)

A must see!
I will remember this movie all my life.I watched it twice on the 80s in a movie club. One with my friends and the other with my dad,a real fan of Tchaikowski as myself. Two days in a row because it was so moving,so wonderfully made,I had to watch it again.I wonder why I didn't find it on cable in all these years!

All the biographical musical movies are better made out of Hollywood ,I must say.Hollywood is too much show and fantasy, but this version of Tchaikowski's life is so close to his actual history you can't help to believe you are actually watching Piotr Yllich living his life than an actor playing a part.

I will always keep in my mind the scene beside the water where he was writing the 4th Symphony in the times of Nadezhda Von Meck, his benefactor. So poetical,so deep and without words.Only music and a beautiful sight.Great photography! If you didn't watch this movie,do.If you like Tchaikowski, you won't regret it.

The Thing That Couldn't Die
(1958)

It's one of the best memories from my childhood
Yes,the movie is not a piece of art but the first time I watched it I was 10 years old,my parents were out and I stayed home with my two brothers. It was May 1970(I know that because I found a note about the cycle of horror movies that one network had). It's one of the most vivid memories I have with the guys.We ended all in one bed and covered up to the head! Our very first horror movie! We kept talking about it for years and laughing about the moment. Those were horror movies.Nowadays horror movies are always the same.Or was it better when we were kids enjoying without analyzing the plot and the cast and the dialogs? Most sure it was that. But for me this is a great movie!
