The Brothers Karamazov
(1958)

Once only is enough...
Watching the first hour of the movie after many, many years of not seeing it since then (I am 67 years old)...Strange movie. When it starts, it seems that you're already in the middle of the movie! You're trying to figure out the picture! Not a very good movie in terms of how it is presented. Good actors. Maria Schell & & Yul Vrynner are the most appealing, followed by Richard Basehart. The bearded father played by Lee J. Cobb is a rather annoying character (although generally I like Lee J. Cobb). Very unappealing. I like William Shatner but his character in the picture is just a two-dimensional character plotted-in (like Albert Salmi). The movie has a strange attraction but overall the taste of this wine is not as good as the initial smell & color! Poorly conceived movie. The music score by Kaper is disappointing so far, especially the abrupt singing section in the Main Title. For a "serious" movie, this movie does not really deserve your serious attention. Watching it completely thru once only is enough....

Hawaiian Eye: An Echo of Honor
(1962)
Episode 28, Season 3

Touching, poignant episode
This is one of the best from Season Three. I really enjoyed the bittersweet interactions between two of the principal characters (played by Philip Reed and Dawn Wells), giving a poignant inner emotional dimension to the story (relatively rare for the series). This is enhanced by I believe the music of Max Steiner with these characters at about the 24 minute point and the end 48 minute location. I am reminded in association of the "Bittersweet" interactions between Anthony (played by Donald Davis) and Annie (played by Yvette Mimieux)in JOY IN THE MORNING (1965). I am also reminded similarly in the excellent RAWHIDE episode, "Incident of the Dust Flower," with the touching interactions between Sophie (played by Margaret Phillips) and Henry (played by Tom Drake).

So kudos for the writers and spot-on cast for this HAWAIIAN EYE episode! By the way, you can go to the "External Sites" section to hear the music. Thank you.

Hawaiian Eye: Rx Cricket
(1962)
Episode 32, Season 3

Decent episode highlighted by Paula Raymond & Max Steiner music
A decent episode enhanced by the inclusion of lovely Paula Raymond!

Of special note is that Max Steiner music was tracked in two locations: (1) HELL ON FRISCO BAY (1955)theme snippet at the 12 & a half minute location (at the end of the duo scene on the hillside overlooking the city). (2) PARRISH Reel 15 pt 2 fight scene music towards end of show.

Thank you.
