What can I say? Invasion of the Bee Girls takes the cake when it comes to the best of the bad! Cheezy, silly, ridiculous, and nausiatingly low budget! I watched Invasion of the Bee Girls to see the actress Anna Aries. She's credited in The Omega Man but her scene was cut. Now I see why! She was a TERRIBLE actress! Anna though was SOOO perfect for THIS movie! Invasion of the Bee Girls exploits gratuitous nudity, and contains a lesbian kiss. I wish more movies like this were readily available. Invasion of the Bee Girls is available for streaming on Netflix. Gotta LOVE them for making this masterpiece available! On a cold rainy night Invasion of the Bee Girls ought to afford you unending entertainment! Enjoy.

In 1992 I saw Okoge when it was originally released in movie theaters in Japan. Intended to be a limited time release only in art-house cinemas, Okoge invaded Japan like a typhoon by breaking box office records during sold out showings. Okoge's original six-week run eventually went on for months! It must have earned a fortune! Seeing Okoge from a western point of view taught me a lot about Japan's gay life at the time. Okoge was filmed throughout Tokyo's main gay section Shinjuku-Nichome. Okoge was daring, and breathtaking for its time. Okoge affords a wonderful glimpse not only into Japan's gay life, but also into its rich social culture. I'm happy to see it's available on DVD! I intend to purchase it.

Should this film ever become available on DVD I will be the first to buy it. Gekko no Natsu is a true story, and it's amazingly touching. I saw this film in 1993 in Tokyo during its theatrical release. Few films focus on the human elements of Japanese soldiers in World War Two. Gekko no Natsu does so. Basically, two kamikaze pilots, about to go out to die for the emperor, stop by a school in southern Japan to play the piano one last time. In doing so they befriend a young woman music teacher. Years later, after the teacher retires, she tells the story of the pilots, and thus begins a search for the pilot's survivors so the old piano they played can be restored, and dedicated to their memory. What transpires is a beautiful story of friendship, dedication, commitment, and love. Hopefully Gekko no Natsu will be subtitled into English for an international audience.

That Certain Summer must have been ground breaking for a 1972 audience. Today I saw the film for the first time, and am duly impressed. Too bad it's not available for sale on DVD, or video. Well done stories about homosexuality are difficult to find. This one is well worth seeing! As That Certain Summer was done before the intrusion of AIDS, the film can only focus on homosexuality itself, not on the complexities of gay people reacting to crisis.

Fortunately LOGO is showing That Certain Summer, and other similarly good films. That Certain Summer is comparable to the qualities found in Long Time Companion, and As Is.
