The Title Says it All When they say "To the Lake", they literally mean an entire series about people trying to get to the lake. You would think that would be just the first episode, and then other stuff happens once they get there. But no, getting to the lake is what this show is about.
The first few episodes are just a game of "Three Car Monte", as they swap around, drive, swap around, things happen, swap around in their three cars. After that, there's a lot of driving and arguing and driving.
Of course the military is brought in as the quintessential bad guys. Every time there is a plague or pandemic, the military always comes in and slaughters everyone, sick or not. This has never happened in history, you can check. There have been plagues recorded in history since the Roman times and we never see any historical record of the military just killing people willie-nillie. But movie-makers the world over must honestly believe this is what happens. And it's so non-sensical. They never kill their own, but they kill all civilians, like once you put a uniform on you suddenly have a right to live. And they never have a conscience. They never say, "Hey, maybe we shouldn't murder these women and children", they all just do it like it's nothing...just because they have that uniform on.
The show isn't bad, it's just a whole lot of nothing to get to the good parts here and there. You will come to hate some characters that seem way over-the-top. Maybe Russia is full of folks who automatically kill or imprison anyone they see driving down the road, or knocking on their door, or wandering through the woods. I've never been to Russia, but I wouldn't think they appreciate this portrayal of them.
