Sonata
(2021)

An Outstanding Film
Sonata is a beautiful movie with first class acting and cinematography. Probably one of the best films that we have seen this year. It captures the pain, struggles, love and joy in raising a special needs child. And what makes this film really special is that it is based on a true story of a family in the mountains of Poland dealing with these incredible challenges. We didn't know much about this film before watching it, but would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an uplifting story. It is in Polish with English subtitles, but that does not distract from the excellent work that it is. Highly recommended.

To Be a Soldier
(2018)

Excellent Film
We really enjoyed this film, it was very well done considering that it was probably done on a limited budget. The performances of two actors really stood out; T.L. Bridger and Wayne E. Brown. Well worth seeing if you enjoy action movies with a Christian message.

The Way
(2010)

Uplifting
We were having a bit of a down day and stumbled on this wonderful film. The acting and direction are first rate, and it has a great message if you need a bit of a boost.

We really enjoyed the film, make sure you have a box of tissues nearby.

Tel Aviv on Fire
(2018)

A Very Entertaining Little and Funny Film
It has been said that comedy doesn't cross cultures very well, but this one certainly does. Tackling a very difficult subject, it is funny and well paced. We enjoyed this film as an antidote to being house bound due to the corona virus lock down. The ending is quite a surprise!

Despite the Falling Snow
(2016)

An Enjoyable Film
We didn't know much about this film but since my wife is from Eastern Europe decided to give it a try. We did enjoy the movie and didn't realize that Rebecca Ferguson actually played two major roles in it until after the fact. There's romance in the film without the usual gratuitous sex scenes, we found it to be a good date night movie with an interesting plot and ending

Richard Jewell
(2019)

An Amazing Film
I had heard some negative reviews of this film, but went anyway. There is simply amazing acting by all concerned; the film will make you laugh, cry, and get angry at the injustice of an innocent man being railroaded by the Feds. A must see.

Lovely, Still
(2008)

An Honest Look At Aging
This is really a remarkable film about aging, families and relationships. As quite a few reviewers have mentioned, you cannot really go into details about the film without giving away the story. Suffice it to say that it is a challenging film, but worthwhile for anyone who is dealing with getting older themselves, or the aging process of loved ones. Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn both give amazing performances as do the supporting actors.

Somewhere West
(2011)

Beautiful Independent Movie
We tend to like Indie films and this one was very special. As it has been said, the journey is the destination and this film takes a deep look at love, friendship and our collective humanity as we reach the end of the road. Highly recommended if you like films that cause you to sit back and reflect.

Die verlorene Zeit
(2011)

An Incredible love story
My Polish born wife and I watched this beautiful film last evening, it is hard to believe that it based upon actual events. The acting is amazing, and the story brought a tear to our eyes. It really reveals that love can rise above terribly evil events.

Wigilia
(2014)

A Wonderful Little Film
We thoroughly enjoyed this film which addresses the pain of being alone at Christmas and how life is often changed by simple events. Wigilia is the story of Polish woman who plans to celebrate Wigilia (Christmas Eve) alone until an unexpected guest arrives at the door. The story is captivating and we weren't prepared for the ending, which left us spellbound. A great indie film.

Erratum
(2010)

Excellent Film On Dealing With The Past
As the title suggests, this film deals with correcting mistakes from the past. In modern Poland, Michal, is sent to retrieve his boss' new American car in his hometown of Szczecin. Through a tragic accident Michal not only discovers his humanity but confronts the broken relationships with his best friend and father. While the film captures the decay of the Baltic port city, it also is one of hope and moving beyond pain. We were captivated though it was difficult to watch for my Polish born wife because of the honest way it captured the treatment of the elderly in that country.
