Poor Things
(2023)

Awkward acting and B&E shots don't make it good
This film, straddling the line between avant-garde cinema and high-end soft porn, leans heavily into an aesthetic that might be mistaken for depth. Despite some characteristics such as a monochromatic imagery, and a theatrical style akin to an unconventional Eastern European play-these elements fail to mask the narrative's hollowness. The film indulges in excessive nudity, violence, and a disturbing disregard for animal rights, underpinned by a pervasive, unexplained strangeness. These choices, rather than enhancing the film's artistic value, appear gratuitous, serving no purpose other than to shock. This strategy, targeting viewers who mistake the unusual for the profound, detracts from the possibility of offering a genuinely impactful cinematic experience.

Harry & Meghan
(2022)

Necessary and not what the overall rating suggests. Second half is very good.
When I started watching episode one, I was quite disappointed. Then I read the reviews which confirmed my opinion and 15 min in, I had it stopped and told myself I can't be bother to deal with someone's drama that I neither know nor I care about.

Admittedly the start is very poor and unreliable. Overly dramatizing (or so it seems) and does not really set the right tone for what is to come really. Whoever did the directing/edit/sound/music did a poor job there. It felt like a low rating show for sure.

My wife kept watching it. After seeing first 3 episodes, she was quite disappointed as well. However she kept watching it after the second pair of 3 episodes was released. There the full story is told in a much more interesting way and truly tells their side of it. At this stage I was urged to watch the second half and so I did.

I truly thought it's worth the time. In my view, despite this being portrayed as a Megan & Harry story (which is a mistake), it's really a story about media, privacy and the in some part as well about the royal family. It's something that everyday people can relate in many was too, since we are being manipulated by that same media. They search for attention (not M&H) and we're the ones that give them the attention and feed off it.

Anyway, bottom line is that it's worth the watch. I skipped the first 3 altogether and found it quite educational on what is happening behind "closed doors".

Pepsi, Where's My Jet?
(2022)

A reminder on what a good documentary is! Brilliant 10/10
I know oscars and other awards are usually granted only to "serious" movies which are often sad and long. And many do deserve them.

Somewhere along the way we seem to have forgotten how to tell good stories. Well, this I found to be a brilliant, creative and educational story. The editing and all the 90s style flashbacks were terrific. I found the blend with acting, real-life interviews and past video material to be made masterfully.

Above all, telling a simple story like that in an engaging, entertaining way without sugarcoating it and adding all sort of 2020 drama to it, was so refreshing.

Well done to the director and the whole crew!

Midnight Run
(1988)

A brilliant action comedy movie. These don't get made anymore.
Just watch it. It's a feel-good action comedy. De Niro plays such a cool character.

I particularly liked that the movie was realistic in the action, the comedy was actually funny and not too in your face and there was some dialogue and back story. Nowadays both cast and dialogue are so politically correct, that there is not much room left for creative writing like this in the 80s.

Yellow Oleander
(2022)

Full of clichés. Lacks too many things to be worth the watch.
The story stared well, but as the movie progressed the clichés became too many, the Hollywood influence too strong and the acting was unconvincing and lacked any depth.

There was not a single thing which I enjoyed in this film. I don't recommend watching it.

2 star for the songs of the forest birds in the movie :)

V sartseto na mashinata
(2022)

Great story, terrific acting, mediocre directing
The storyline is quite thought provoking and I very much liked the simple setting the whole movie revolves around.

What I did not enjoy, were the overly exaggerated moments, slow motions, loud and dramatic music - all of which were supposed to bring more feeling to the moment. For me they did the opposite. I was in the moment and that kind of ruined it.

Examples are the laughing at the end of the movie, the unconvincing bird cleaning, dramatic shooting, etc.

It feels as if the director had nostalgia for 80s/90s style scenes. They did not age well and as cinema progressed such scenes feel comic at times.

Overall I recommend to people to go and watch this otherwise beautiful film.

The Innocent Man
(2018)

Brilliant execution and a very thought provoking subject.
I found the series to be very interestingly dramatized and the scrip to be masterfully mixed. The Script. The story is complicated, so it deserves more attention (compared to watching Friends for example). It goes back and forth in a way that help you feel how easy it is to be manipulated. At the same time you get a very genuine experience of how the information unfolded. By the end you become suspicious of your own reason. The series do keep you waiting for the next act all the time. Which I found as key in keeping me engaged when watching and not getting bored or confused of the complexity in the real story.

The Cinematography. I found it very well shot and dramatized. Often these movies are terrible and reacting such events, but not this one. It's chilling to the bone.
