Gehraiyaan
(2022)

A decent flick
I rarely watch bollywood movies but after watching the trailer I was sort of interested to check this movie out. Let's say am not totally disappointed. Gehraiyaan is definitely not like most cheesy romantic drama movies that bollywood keeps churning out. The dialogs are relatable, the characters have depth and the acting is believable. But Deepika carries the movie on her shoulder, her scenes are the best. Now coming to the plot, infidelity isn't exactly a new concept but the movie held my interest, except for the last 30 minutes which took a wild turn and became too dramatic for my liking. Also the much talked about bold scenes seems pretty tame and nothing special.

Anyway it was a pretty decent watch with good-looking actors and nice chemistry. Watch it for Deepika if not for anything else.

The Silent Sea
(2021)

An engaging show !
Since squid game ended i haven't really found any good kdrama to watch. Hellbound was sadly disappointing. So my hopes for Silent Sea was high not just because of Gong Yoo but the trailer seemed well made and intriguing. Also Bae Donna so I was hyped.

I literally binged the show in a day and I have to say that I actually really liked it. I was sort of expecting the usual kdrama tropes abt relationship drama/forced comedy or just melodrama in general but this show had none of those. They jumped on the plot on the 1st episode and since then the events keep happening one after the other.

Pros : Coming to the plot of the show its nothing unique about going to space to collect some mysterious specimen with no proper explanation to the crew and obviously a new member with mysterious past is added. I am sure these sort of stories are done many times but what I found interesting was the the social commentary on the earth which was facing drought causing extreme class division. Also how water is something one can't live without but when they find that even a drop of lunar water turns out be to humans biggest enemy bcz it kills the host.

I am glad the science talks were sort of dumbed down and explained for ppl to understand, and it wasnt some super complicated mumbo jumbo.

The twists and turns were sort of unpredictable i didn't see some of them coming so that was fun.

Coming to the characters, I know it's a 8 part series but I wd have liked some back stories for the supporting cast to be able to connect with them as a viewer. Even for Gong Yoo he seemed to have been given a very one toned character. He is a great actor they could have done more with his role by giving him some depth. Bae Dona was the most fleshed out character and she did well !

Now the pace of the show at times was very sluggish they cud have easily edited out scenes of them just walking or standing and breathing. I understand that at times it necessary to create the claustrophobic space atmosphere but there were too many scenes like this.

The CGI was at times looking funny but I dont expect it to be Hollywood movie like so I can ignore that.

All in all I would definitely suggest this show as a sci fi fan i thoroughly enjoyed it even with some faults. It ended in cliffhanger so am hoping for another season with better explanations.

Nam-gwa yeo
(2016)

Loved it
Definitely one of the best romantic movie to exist! I love the nuanced and realistic approach of the story. The acting is good. A must watch for people who love offbeat movies.

Halston
(2021)

Why all the negative reviews?
I don't know about others but I enjoyed the series throughout. To be honest I don't know much about fashion and had never heard of the brand Halston myself. Maybe the show is inaccurate and unauthentic but not once did it make me feel bored. Like most tv series these days lack a good plot and I actually managed to binge watch this the day it came out so it says a lot. I love Ewan and I thought he played the character really well, bringing out the emotions and the comedy bits and never over doing it. There was a lot of business talk but it was handled well without it dragging. The few things I wish they would have done is showed us more about his childhood. The only parts we see seems very flimsy and incomplete. The cast was amazing. Pretty fleshed out charecters It was really sad to see Halston being stripped off his own name and the ending scene was beautiful. Made me emotional. I think everyone should give this show a chance.

The Woman in the Window
(2021)

Even Amy couldn't save it.
Having read the book I was super excited about the movie ! But alas it was a disappointment. The movie felt like more of a drama than an intriguing thriller like it was in the book. The dialogues sometimes were over the top and the pace lagging, the supporting actors only show up when it's convenient to keep the plot moving. Sadly there is nothing interesting about any one of them. Expect for Moore she nailed her part.

Even the two biggest reveals of the story seemed lacklustre. There was a lot of buildup throughout but it just fell flat in the end.

Keeping all the negativity aside Amy as always did a great job.

The Girl on the Train
(2021)

Parineeti do us a favour and stop ACTING!
Okay if u haven't read the book or watched the Hollywood adaptation u will still find this movie awful. I am not gonna compare Emily blunts performance to whatever Parineeta was trying to do throughout the movie. Only can Bollywood have a totally thrilling plot and then manage to mess it up. I had to stop myself from skipping through the dialouges and over acting in every scene. Not once did I feel invested with the story line.

I don't get the low ratings ?
If you are one of those masala type Bollywood movie fans who loves watching 50 year old men dancing with arm candies half their age then this movie is not for you. Also if u think every movie is trynna push a propaganda Bcz they are not repeating the same plot from 90's and are showing actual problems ppl are facing today then again this movie isn't for u.

So for the review Il have to be honest I didn't really enjoy the first two stories. The first one was trying to do too much in a very short span of time and it came off incoherent. Also in comparison to the other stories the acting was mediocre specially the actress she was annoying.

The second story tried really hard with the WTF ending, which I already sort of guessed after a few minutes of the police station scene that the little girl had something to do with it. The story made it obvious and thus the suspense was lacking.

I love konkona and not to be biased but I liked the third one the most. I watched other similar anthology movies and this story seemed to be different. It was realistic and brought the struggles of a woman who is a minority within a minority. The chemistry between the two women was so good.

But I have to say that shefali stole the show with her acting. Was she a flawed character? Yes. She portrayed that effortlessly. The 4th story definitely tugged at my heart strings. It was sweet and emotional. Was rooting for a happy ending but I wasn't disappointed cz it made me cry.

Anyway if u like off bit movie then give it a watch!

Shadow and Bone
(2021)

All over the place
Firstly I have never read the books so I can't compare but seeing the trailer I was interested and was waiting to watch the show. But oh boy it's a disappointment!. Judging from what I have seen till ep 4 The charecters lack substance and bcz of the multiple story line the plot seems to be disjointed. I don't even remember the names of most of the supporting charecters. Thank god Ben Barnes is hot and can act otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to watch. I love a good female protagonist but Alina is boring. The actress is okay-ish, maybe it's not her fault considering whatever she has been given to work with. Inej is a lot more interesting charecter than her. Also I can't get myself to invest in the whole love triangle thingy. I thought Witcher was mediocre this is actually worse.

Anyway am being generous with the 6.

Coolie No.1
(2020)

Absolute Garbage
It's not like I was expecting a masterpiece since the original material wasn't great to begin with. Bollywood needs to stop remaking movies from 90's because those were only enjoyable back then, time has changed these kind of movies don't work anymore. From the beginning to the end the whole movie was god awful. I get the point of the movie is mindless entertainment but atleast some of the jokes need to be smart or the acting needs to be good! Both are heavily missing. The songs popping up every 5 min in the movie are very annoying and noisy. I honestly fast forwarded through because didn't have the patience to watch the whole thing. Varun Dhawan is just wasting his potential and for Sarah I have only one thing to say pls stop acting !

Also can Bollywood actors stop dressing up as woman for a comedy relief cz it's nothing but insulting and derogatory to woman. Am literally tired of this stereotyped trope.

A Suitable Boy
(2020)

I couldn't sit through ep 2
As an Indian myself from the starting the dialogues made me cringe so bad! They sounded like they were direct translation from hindi? Some of the actors seemed so awkward at the dialouge delivery and it would have been better if the show was in Hindi. What was the point of throwing one or two random hindi dialouges here and there.

The acting was mediocre the female protagonist Lata lacked emotions and appeared very unconvincing to me.

I haven't read the book so I cant compare but yes the plot atleast whatever I watched had potential if only the director handled it properly. I legit cracked up because the dialouges were so poorly written.

She
(2020)

Very wobbly story line
There is not enough content for a 7 ep long show on top of that nothing exactly happens till the last episode. It ends with a cliffhanger probably for s2 but it feels very incoherent. The guy who plays sasya is a good actor rest are pretty average I wish the main charecter knew how to emote more than one facial expression. There were many plot holes and the dialouges are cringe at times.

Since the show is named 'she' so I was hoping for a strong female charecter but alas I was disappointed. A show that is trying to portray a women's sexual awakening with a poorly filmed sex scene and too much mansplaining isn't really empowering to me.

I gave 5 because i it has a one or two nice scenes and isn't entirely awful.

Shei xian ai shang ta de
(2018)

Absolutely loved it!
I wasn't expecting anything when I decided to watch this movie Bcz I have never watched any Taiwanese movie before. Right from the starting I found the animations really cute and it added so much more sense as the movie went along. I understand that lost of dialouge meaning are lot in translations Bcz of the subtitles still I found the dialogues very touching. The actors did a great job. One of the most remarkable scene has to be the bathroom scene when he starts starts cutting his hair as his lover who is suffering from cancer refuses to shave his. Also the drama scene in the ending got me bawling my eyes out. The soundtrack of the movie is amazing.

This movie isn't for people who don't enjoy slow paced movies dialouge heavy movies!

But I would recommend this movie for ppl who do enjoy good lgbt dramas which are realistic and emotional.

The Undoing
(2020)

Gripping Whodunit
I have watched till ep 5 and can't wait for the next episode. There was never a dull moment in this show. From the starting it got me intrigued and I haven't read the book so I don't have anything to compare. All the actors are great but I wish they would have casted someone else instead of Hugh grant, it's not that he is a bad actor but he isn't great either. Not exactly fitting for a role like this. He gets overshadowed by Nicole in every scene. I don't get how some reviewers are calling her a bad actor? She is nailing her performance like she always does.

The best part is I still don't know who actually did it, I am suspicious about a few ppl but the show is keeping me guessing. This is exactly what I expect from a psychological thriller.

Breathe: Into the Shadows
(2020)

BAD is an understatement for this series
Are we all watching the same show ?? because the amount of good reviews are baffling! Its been awhile I have watched something this terrible. I don't even know where to start? All of the actors act woodenly, badly written dialouges, gaping plotholes don't even get me started on the unnecessarily loud background music. Abhisekh is as dull as a dish water and the actress who played his wife was just as horrible with her dead eyed expression and exaggerated dialouge delivery. As for the premise it was intriguing but the execution completely ruined it. One never gets emotionally connected with the characters because they seem soulless and are just there to get the story running. Within the end of the 1st episode I knew it was Sia's dad behind the kidnapping from the voice I mean they didn't even bother to use some sort of voice distortion it was so clearly Abhisekh's voice on the recorder. I ended up skipping through scenes and wish I never watched it. Take my advice and sit this show out to save time and energy.
