Incredibly Epic! and The End of an Era! SPOILER ALERT!
IF YOU HAVEN"T WATCH IT, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DON'T READ REVIEWS YET, GO WATCH IT FIRST. OTHERWISE, YOU WILL GET SPOILED.
Everything has an explanation.
If you didn't do a marathon watching the 21 marvel movies before Endgame (or at least 12 of the essential movies), you will probably end adding a negative review about Endgame.
1st: Why Captain America was able to use Thor's hammer? (And some say: "the cap used even better than Thor, how?"). OK, here is why.
You have to go back to Thor's and Captain America's movies. Back in Thor (2011), Thor committed an act of war that put the lives of millions of people on risk, so he demonstrated not to be worthy, so Odin exiled Thor, removing his rights to use the hammer. Odin said "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor". In the same movie, Thor tried to pick up the hammer, and he wasn't able to do it because he was not worthy. The keyword here is "Worthy". At the end of the movie, when Thor sacrificed his life to save the world, then he demonstrated to be worthy, and then the hammer came back to him. Then, going back to Captain America's movies, from the very beginning, when Steve Rogers was not a superhero yet, in several occasions, he demonstrated to be worthy, including that moment on which he jumped over a pomegranate to save the lives of people that were just bullying him. In fact, he was chosen to become a super soldier, because of was worthy to become super powerful (did you watch Captain America the First Avenger?) if not, you won't understand anything about the cap. The movies after that, he also continues to give his life for others, putting himself on risk to save the world (even before having any power).
Remember that fun scene in Age of Ultron on Thor is making fun of everybody because nobody can pick up the hammer? But when Captain America tried, Thor gets surprised because when Captain America make his try, the hammer moves, but then cap is so humble that look at Thor and then doesn't pick it up, maybe he was not fully worthy at that moment yet?. If you look back in the comics, the cap picked up the hammer a couple of times.
2nd: Why Captain America took the hammer with him at the end of the movie when going back in time to return the infinity stones? This is not revealed in Endgame, but he was definitively returning everything back, maybe the Hammer was one of those things, so it won't mess Thor's timelines. Thor needed that hammer in the past, that's a reason.
3rd: Why Captain America was able to use the StormBreaker? The StormBreaker doesn't has the magic from Odin. So anybody with enough strength can use it. Is not the hammer that has the magic from Odin.
4th: Why Captain America appears as an old man, at the end of the movie? C'mon guys! You don't know this? Really? Again, watch Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), and also watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and you will find all answers. He had a pending dance with the love of his life, the woman with who he wanted to get old together. Remember in the Winter Soldier, he said to her (on her deathbed) "we still have a pending dance". That's why the movie ends with that dance! And c'mon! He deserves a life too! That's why he just appears as an old man in front of the lake, because he used the time travel to have a life and get old with his woman! Jesus! C'mon! Please tell me that you get it.
5th: Why Captain Marvel doesn't really stick around to show off all her infinite power to just defeat Thanos? The simple answer is, because you guys hate her!!! If Marvel gives the main role to Captain Marvel, most of the Marvel fans will get pissed! C'mon tell if I am right or wrong?
About the Timeline Mess-up: Yes, I understand, time travel in so many stories, it brings new time lines, and this leaves some unanswered questions. Now let's look at the future. Did you see the new Spider-man trailer? Nick Fury calls Spider-man to resolve a mess with the new timelines. In fact, he ask "why you didn't call Captain Marvel", they answer "She is not available". The real answer is "She is not that popular, the fan base hate her, that's why we called you, Spider-man". Also after Tony Stark death, which movie you think is more profitable? Either a Spider-man movie or Pepper's movie, right? But people won't really like Pepper as they already like Spider-man. So who is the go-to person now? Spider-man. And the probe of this is that he sets a new record in trailer views. Everybody wants to know what's next! That's why Spider-man is the man now. He was Iron man's pupil, and he still wears the suit made by Iron Man. So Spider-man is at the same time new Iron-man? And he is going to resolve some of the mess-up caused by the time travel? Well let me tell you, this is much better than having almost all superheroes dead.
Do you guys really thing the planning for a movie with a budget of $356,000,000 (estimated), is just about a few guys just sitting and inventing random stories without analyzing? Nope. That's a lot of people thinking and challenging each other when a new idea comes out. Almost everything in this movie makes sense and is referenced from prior movies. And anything that doesn't makes sense yet, will makes sense in the future, in the next movies.
My only concern in this movie is who dies. I still don't accept it. I can accept black widow death because she has a contract for a prequel, so we are going to watch much more about her. But Ironman! C'mon! Why him? You lost black widow, and we are losing the cap, and Ironman too? Marvel you sacrifice too much. We can still enjoy the movie without so many sacrifices. That's my only concern. Yes, I am still sad about who died. But I have to accept it. Let me tell you, if all the good guys always survive, and all the bad guys always die, in every single movie you watch, then what's the point? You will know the end already! But Marvel is giving us stories that keeps us thrilled because we cannot predict it (unless you have been spoiled of course). These are movies in where anything can happens, as they says "whatever it takes". But hey, I am still sad. Sad! Very Sad! Why him? This is the only reason why I would hate Marvel.
Well, in overall, Avengers: Endgame, is the end of an era, and it is the most epic ending you couldn't even imagine.
It took them more than a decade to make this movie. All of those 21 prior movies point to this one, and this on point back to the prior movies too. You may be surprised of finding also some references from the comics.
Some of my favorite parts are the references to all the 21's prior movies to this one. But this is also a double-edged sword, because it is good for people that really remember those movies, but bad for those that are not fans, didn't watch the prior movies, and don't know what is going on.
Another good mention about Endgame and all Marvel movies is that they are bordering the lines between science and science fiction. Marvel Studios prides itself on scientific continuity throughout its many movies, and this movie really made it in that direction. They give a drama story and origin to each super hero, and they also explain their powers and how these characters obtained these powers. Most of the story is actually based on scientific theories (the quantum physics), and how far a civilization can go if some of these theories are exploded. So can we become super heroes and travel back in time? Hey, I haven't say that. But if you are a science enthusiast, you will love how Marvel does it with science fiction.
Marvel make us become children again by the time we sit to watch their movies.
Everything in this movie is above and beyond amazing, in combination with the full sequel (as I mentioned above). The story and screenplay, the art direction, the acting, sound mixing, visual effects, engineering effects, music, cinematography, costume design (as always), action, drama, comedy, film editing, everything. No negative critics. Would it earn or be nominated to an Oscar? Well, I think Avengers in overall has the potential to add another category to the Oscars: 'Best Sequel'. Yeah! Why not? As I said, if you judge this movie itself without watching the entire 22 avenger's movies, it won't be a fair judgement! Period. Oscar's committee, please take that in mind.
Would I watch it again! Yes, I'm going back to the movie theater, to watch it a couple of times more. And then when it gets released in Blu-Ray, I will watch it again about 4 times more. For real, it is fun to watch!
