The Adjustment Bureau
(2011)

Rehash of Parallax View, more or less
Though I like this film it is oddly reminiscent of the Parallax View, which indeed is a bit darker but still refers to the main plot point, that life isn't without its controls

The controls mean there are controllers and in this movie, like the Parallax View, they act secretly with little to no impunity.

The difference is the outright malevolence of this hidden group in power in this movie is much more murky

Both movies argue that free will isn't as free as we think it is; and that being free one has to give up some of the creature comforts that a system provides and live more daringly

The real truth is most don't to live truly free, a satiated life is usually an easy one.

Little Jar
(2022)

Cute, quirky and funny
Ok first thing, this stars my cousin - so, there's that

Deals with Covid lockdown isolation in a cute quirky, a bit bizarre, funny way

Really though, trying not to not be nepotistic here (easy enough since I don't actually know the person at all) it has some truly goofy cute scenes (there's one with shirts that comes to mind, outside of the main plot point)

The direction is kind of a bit choppy, and the camera and lighting is a bit too realistic imho (colors are flat, and lighting looked to me often natural which although not muddled, could have highlighted the subjects a bit more)

Not to be too much on the nose, but I think music by DeadMau5 would've been fun ... (because of the ...dead mouse, never mind)

The writing is kinda wordy and slightly frenetic, but really good

Acting ...

Pros: emotionally really good; very warm and real

Cons: the dialogue seemed a bit rushed at the beginning, as in the timing seems a bit too quick, is this the direction? Is this Kelsey Gunn's performance? IDK, but the pacing seemed "fast" and I wanted to linger a bit more on the writing and emotionality

Seen Castaway with Tom Hanks? Ainsley's Wilson is a dead mouse ...

Almost an Angel
(1990)

Feel good movie about doing your best
Is it just me or does this seem a bit like "We're Not Angel's" one of Humphrey Bogart's more light-sided movies?

The above is not exactly a young kids movie, but neither is this - but both are easy to watch, memorable and speak to the fact that valor, charity, and goodness can come from what may seem unlikely characters

i liked this movie, decent stuff doesn't get enough recognition, and it may be not all that showy, but this reminds folks that good people are doing good things all the time.

I saw this movie on a lark, glad I did

The main guy gets a second chance to do the right thing, and does without seeking any favors - maybe we all can learn from this?

Meet Dave
(2008)

Main idea unfortunately lost on the cast, crew & most people who watched this
If you get that "Dave" starts off acting like someone unconventional, maybe a bit autistic - filled with aliens waking up that being yourself, even if it is not in lock-step with cultural norms, is fine

Look, "weird" people include Einstein, Tesla, Van Gogh, even Shakespeare ... so do your thing, whatever it is ( as long as your not hurting yourself or others) just be you ...

So what if society thinks you're odd?

That's the story, not some Alien robot thing: it's that diversity of opinion, actions & practices makes our little blue marble worth living on

You'e a shinning star, no matter what you are ...

Citizen Jane
(2009)

Movie made about my Grandmother
The movie is a loose take on the book by the same name that speaks about true life events that happened to my Grandmother

D.A.R.Y.L.
(1985)

What it is like to be "different"
This is more than an exploration of a kid with a robot "brain", there's a subtle message here of what it's like being a kid when you're a little different than everyone else.

People treat you oddly, sometimes even fearfully, inquisitively, or with rude insensitivity …so you learn to fit in by acting like everyone else (even though deep down your just like everyone else).

This movie's message is about acceptance of our wunderkinds, our Asperger kids, our Autistic savants and anyone who sees the world a bit differently; underneath it all a kid is still a kid.

As a somewhat inquisitive bookworm when I was young, I could relate with Daryl, as dealing with other kids was always a little awkward; still I wanted the love, friendship & commeratory just like everyone else.

Not a perfect film, but a decent one with high ideals & a nice happy ending.
