All of Us Strangers
(2023)

Amazing fantasy movie.
I just watched All of Us Strangers and needed to review it. That this is an outstanding movie in a year full of masterpieces is by itself an accomplishment. But there's so much more to that.

Andrew Haigh created a beautiful work of art from a love story that anyone can relate to. It's about love in many forms. And loss. Love for our parents, love for our lovers, and the loneliness of being unique and different. And how we cope when love is gone.

This movie will hit differently to each viewer. But you'll surely cry at some point. It's so beautifully woven and powerful. The metaphor of the solitary building with only two neighbors shows that we live alone until we connect with someone else. We are all strangers. But love is that powerful force that can conquer time and space and connect us. It reminded me of Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, also a movie about love and time travel.

The work and talent of Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell by itself deserves a watch. The way they convince us that they're Adam's parents and the sweetness of Harry's love make this movie incredibly beautiful.

As Louise Gluck said, "We look at the world once, in childhood. The rest is memory." This quote so perfectly applies to the movie. The actors and the director deserved all the awards. It's a touching and emotional masterpiece.

I highly recommend All of Us Strangers. Worthy watching. Bring your tissues...

The Secret Diary of an Exchange Student
(2021)

What a fun trip!
I enjoyed this movie a lot. I went with no expectations and was very surprised with the soundtrack, the storyline, and the scenery. The girls are so funny and lovable. Their lives as au pairs and exchange students in the United States were riveting and a joy to follow. There are surprise twists and an emotional ending. It is a very charming and entertaining movie.

The movie shows the challenges and surprises of living and studying abroad. The characters are fun to watch, and their interaction is compelling. I highly recommend this movie as a tale of a joyful adventure in foreign lands, both physical and metaphorically.

Ava
(2020)

Horrible and predictable.
Sorry, I am a big fan of Jessica Chastain and she has great talent and skills. I could only watch the movie until the last half hour because of her. In the end, I gave up and looked for spoilers to know how it ended.

A convoluted plot, her sister and now boyfriend are awful, it adds nothing to the movie, and made it look like a bad soap opera. Jessica does her best but nothing can save this movie.

It's a huge waste of talent for John Malkovich, Colin Farrell and Geena Davis. The story makes no sense, the fights are silly and unbelievable, the characters are boring and bad. Don't recommend it. There are many action movies worthy of your time.

Red, White & Royal Blue
(2023)

A breath of fresh air
What a great rom-com. So good! The characters are so easy to love and the actors have a great chemistry. It's funny, uplifting, and touches on important issues of today. The movie is so well done, a same sex romance so beautifully constructed. Their friendship and relationship clicks so well and we finish the movie wanting more.

Hope there is a sequel. A joy to watch. The storyline and the direction are flawless and the acting is very good. What we needed for the summer. Wishing for more of their interaction and their connection. Kudos to everyone involved in this production. Recommended if you want to enjoy a light and well made movie.

Air
(2023)

Air Jordan - Great idea, great movie
It is a movie about NIke and the deal they tried to make with then 18 years old Michael Jordan, a promising basketball player also courted by Adidas and Converse.

Matt Damon is the visionary guy working for Nike. Ben Affleck plays Nike CEO who's very reluctant about the idea of throwing a lot of money in a young player instead of betting on 3 basketball players for their product. Viola Davis is amazing as the strong and caring Michael Jordan's mother.

Damon, Affleck, and Davis grace us with an amazing performance, together with the other actors. Great cast, good writing, outstanding act. Really Oscar material.

Highly recommend for 2 good hours of entertainment, business, and inspiration. Not a cliche, but it's what movies used to be: delightful, charming, and good.

Congrats to Damon and Affleck for the movie production and to Ben Affleck for the directorial work. Hope Artists Equity brings more original and captivating films like this.

Hijack
(2023)

Not a good series
Sorry, I had to come here to change my review after the last episodes. Very bad plot, nonsense decisions, an inexistent government. Nothing is real or logic in this show. It's a shame that Idris Elba's talent was wasted on this. Not recommended.

(I was very surprised by this action series. It's packed with suspense and thrill and Idris Elba leads the show with an amazing performance, James Bond level. It is a fast-paced show about a plane traveling from Dubai to London being hijacked in mid-air. Idris Elba's character is a specialist in negotiation and will use his skills to try to save the plane. The film is well directed and the script so far has been very good, starting from a slow pace and building the tension as the hijackers take control of the plane and we try to understand their motivation and their goal. There are some emotional background stories that are woven together with the same fate. I can't wait for the final episodes. So far so good.)

Secret Invasion
(2023)

Giving 4 stars for the cast
Long gone are the days of the Captain America trilogy and the Avengers. The quality, creativity, and originality of the first phases are gone to never return. Secret Invasion is not as bad as Quantumania, the last Thor movie, or others not worthy of mentioning Marvel's enterprises, but it's boring, predictable, dull, and full of cliches. The skrull rebels look like the flag smashers from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The cast with Samuel L. Jackson and Olivia Colman is superb, but the script doesn't help them. Not watching the rest of the series anymore, it is nowhere close to Marvel's geniality and excellency of past days. I should better give up waiting for Marvel to make a high-quality series/movie. I don't think it's going to happen.

I agree with some media reviews that Secret Invasion is emblematic of the problem of modern-day Marvel: it's a franchise full of waste. It wastes the talent of the good actors, it's a waste of the source material, and a waste of the time for the viewers.

Citadel
(2023)

Can't wait for season 2!
Amazing series! Well directed and with a great cast and excellent writers. I loved and waiting forward to season 2 and the crossover Citadel: Nadia.

The partnership between the Russos brothers, Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra is a visually stunning show well written full of twists and turns and with a cliffhanger ending.

The show stars with spies Mason Kane and Nadia Sihn and develop with back-and-forth travel time showing the changes to their lives as the Citadel agency is threatened with destruction by an inside mole.

Loved each episode with the increasing tension and the breakthrough revelations in the last episodes. Congratulations to everyone involved and keep up the good work. Bring season 2 soon.

Ghosted
(2023)

Very funny and entertaining
I loved this movie, like old rom-coms but packed with action scenes. Chris Evans and Ana de Armas have great chemistry and work well together. I enjoyed their banter and their interactions. The story is well constructed and it builds up during the movie. The visual is astonishing. It is a movie to relax, enjoy and have a good time. The cameos are the cherry on top. Very well done, no wonder social media is trending with those actors. I hope Apple continues to make movies like this one, to light up our days. Totally recommend it. As it was said before, avoid the trailer and just watch the movie. Worth the waiting.

Magic in the Moonlight
(2014)

What a lovely movie!
Magic in the Moonlight is a refreshing and funny movie directed by Woody Allen and starred by Colin Firth and Emma Stone, both amazing in their roles.

It's a tale between two magicians, if she can be called that. Both bring fun, hope, and magic to the world in their own unique ways. It's also a love story. Seeing Stanley changing from a very pessimistic man to enjoying life a little better and having hope and happiness is very satisfactory.

I appreciated this movie very much, the scenery, the clothes, and the writing are all very good. Kudos to the team and it's worth a watch. Highly recommend it.

Sharper
(2023)

Bad movie, falls short of anything sharper
Sorry, I really like Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan, couldn't wait for this movie to be released, only to get a huge disappointment of a movie with great actors and a horrible plot.

I thought on stop watching it after Sandra's scam story, but I decided it couldn't be that bad. I couldn't believe a movie with such amazing actors would end up poorly.

Well, I was wrong. Everything is predictable, scam after scam, easily to conclude that the last scammer would be the "winner takes it all", as it happened. The plot was poor, the end made no sense, shallow characters, I couldn't root for any of them, just for the movie to end.

Unfortunately, those were 2 hours of my life I can't get back. I want a refund of my time.

Kudos to Julianne Moore, Sebastian Stan, and John Lithgow who did their best with the shallow script they had. The actors, like the viewers, deserved better.

Supernova
(2020)

Beautiful symphony of a life together
This is a beautiful and intimate movie. The scenery and photography are magnificent. The pace is slow and engaging, like a classical symphony. It does not rush, it presents two friends and lovers together for 20 years when suddenly one of them is diagnosed with dementia and progressively loses his skills (he's a writer) and his memory.

Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci are amazing as the old couple. They too have a close friendship of over 20 years and this helped them to do their roles perfectly. The movie is set in the English countryside while they travel together on what would be their last vacation trip.

Very lovely and powerful movie. I totally recommend it.

Todo Dia a Mesma Noite
(2023)

Justice for the victims.
This is an excellent series, based on a book about the Kiss Nightclub tragedy in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, in 2013.

245 young people, most College students from the many Universities in town, lost their lives in a fire during the party inside the nightclub. Ten years after the tragedy, no one was arrested. Four people were prosecuted but the trial was annulled.

Most of the young people were 18-30 years old. The series was endorsed by the parents of the victims, who still fight for justice to this day.

The cinematography is beautiful, the terror and senseless deaths are well portrayed. I highly recommend this series.

Don't Worry Darling
(2022)

Please don't waste 2 hours of your life
Horrible movie. What a waste of talent. I am not even spending my time here explaining my review. Just filling words to reach the required characters.

Bad, very bad. No plot. Wonderful actors, completely wasted in this movie. They tried to do a mix of Truman Show with The Stepford Wives and Wandavision, but they failed gigantically.

The script is bad, the end atrocious. I just wanted these 2 hours of my life back.

Usually I don't write bad reviews, but this movie really deserved it. The plot is full of holes. The movie is meaningless and should be forgotten. I really don't recommend it. Avoid it at any cost.

Wedding Season
(2022)

A love to watch
Lovely movie, fun, heartwarming, like old movies. Do you want to have a nice cozy time? Watch this movie. I loved the Indian culture displayed in it and the modernity of an independent young woman trying to be successful at work and in her love life. Charming, witty, and crazy movie. A real Netflix and chill.

The Terminal List
(2022)

Amazing series!
Chris Pratt has done a great work here as a producer and actor. A must seen series, filled with action, thrill, and emotional scenes. To me, it was the best surprise of the year.

I totally recommend this show if you want an entertaining and edge of the seat series. I hope it becomes like Jack Ryan and 24 Hours, with the producers and directors giving us a 2nd and 3rd seasons.

Chris Pratt is just perfect as the haunted Navy seal fighting for his life and for revenge. Amazing. The show already has a 93% audience rate on Rotten Tomatoes. Highly recommended.

Hacksaw Ridge
(2016)

Beautiful and emotional movie based on a true story
What a wonderful movie. Mel Gibson really excelled on this and Andrew Garfield's acting is superb, he deserved an Oscar for that. Glad he at least got a well deserved nomination.

The story of a Christian soldier who helped conquering one of the toughest places in Japan during WWII was made into a beautiful, sensible, and courageous movie. Desmond Doss didn't carry a rifle or shoot a single bullet, but his braveness and faith made him save the life of 75 soldiers, including his commander.

I cried most of the time in the ending scenes, this is what real faith is about, to give courage and strength in the most difficult moments and to save other people's lives. The cast is amazing and Andrew Garfield shows once more he is one of the greatest and talented actors of our generation.

tick, tick...BOOM!
(2021)

Amazing movie!
This is one of the best movies of 2021. Based on a play written by Jonathan Larson during the 1990s, it deals with success, failure, love, friendship, and the struggle to be recognized as a playwriter in New York while working as a waiter.

Andrew Garfield is one of the best actors of our generation. The fact that he took 1 year of hard work to sing and play the piano by itself deserves a Golden Globe and an Academy award. He IS Jonathan Larson, he's beautiful, fun, sad, frustrated, depressed, touched by his friends' sickness and death, while feeling that time is passing by as he hits the 30s threshold mark.

The direction by Lin Miranda is superb. The songs are beautiful and touching. It's like watching a great Broadway play. I had an amazing time watching this movie and hope the director and the actors get the recognition they deserve for this wonderful piece of art.

No Time to Die
(2021)

Boring
I really tried to like this James Bond movie, since I'm a big fan of the franchise and this is the last Daniel Craig's movie. I loved some of his other James Bond acting, like Casino Royale and Skyfall, but this one is as boring and dull as it can be. Bad directing, cheap special effects, unrealistic fighting scenes, and so on.

Daniel Craig looks tired and pissed all the time, Lea Seydoux doesn't act well and has no Bond girl charm. The best of the movie was the short but explosive Ana de Armas' acting work. What an amazing actress she is. I saw her on Knives Out where she did a great job carrying the movie and called Daniel Craig's attention for this film. She should have been cast as the first actress or played a longer role. The movie clearly needed an actress who could act, with the skills, talent, and beauty that Ana de Armas holds.

I love action movies, but I couldn't wait for this film to end. Lashana Lynch does a good job as Nomi, the new 007. Hope they replace the direction team together with the James Bond new actor. Very disappointing.

Gifted
(2017)

Once upon a time there was a good man, a gifted child, and an one-eyed cat...
What an amazing movie. Refreshing and sweet. Chris Evans is showing how great of an actor he is, besides Marvel roles. He was a great as Captain America in the MCU universe, a role impossible to match. However, he has shown with Defending Jacob and movies like Gifted that he's a talented, accomplished, and serious actor.

This movie is a breath of fresh air among so many boring "family movies." It's funny, witty, and uplifting. Mckenna Grace is a very talented actress and Octavia Spencer is strong as ever. Chris Evans and her worked together in another outstanding movie, Snowpiercer, with Tilda Swinton.

Gifted is a movie about family problems, suicide, child upbringing, custodian battle, but with a light tone and a well-written story. Worthy watching.

Defending Jacob
(2020)

Excellent show
Defending Jacob was the best show of 2020 for me. Its pace, storytelling, and acting were close to perfection. The criminal law, genetics, and psychological aspects, even with some flaws concerning the "murder gene" and genetics interpretation, were good enough for a non-fiction thriller.

The pace and slow-burning were consistent with the rhythm of the show. The ending was perfect, letting it open if Jacob was the killer or not. This series is close to a fine Agatha Christie's or Hitchcock's movie, very good to how the criminal justice system works and showing the reality of both good and bad aspects of the main characters, as it happens in real life. How everyone walks on this thin thread of normalcy until something terrible happens.

Chris Evans' acting was superb. Kudos to him also as a producer. I hope he continues to bring intelligent and exceptional works of art like this one.

The Last Full Measure
(2019)

One of the best movies I have seen!
This is such an underrated movie, maybe because the pandemic hit when it was being released. But it's such a great film, with a wonderful plot. It gets such a rich cast, with Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Peter Fonda, Christopher Plummer, William Hurt, and they all deliver a great message. Sebastian Stan gives a splendid performance as the main actor. A joy to see. The plot is realistic, full of compassion and respect. The dealing of the veterans' PTSD and war traumas is perfectly done.

It's a movie that really needed to be done, showing how terrible are the war effects, many lasting for decades, in the lives of the soldiers, their families, and the ones affected by them. It's a fight by the main character and the dead soldier's friends to get him post-mortem justice. It makes us cry, think, and lift our spirits. A must-see. Kudos to the producers, directors, and actors.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
(2021)

Great show but the last episode was weak
I loved how The Falcon and the Winter Soldier started, with great action scenes, two amazing main characters, and the superb energy of those talented actors, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie. It gets better with Sharon (Emily Von Camp) and Baron Zemo, Daniel Bruhl just magnificent in his role, with a bit of fun and sexiness.

I liked the psychological story arc and how they deepened into the realities of these two heroes' lives: Bucky's troubled past and his struggle for redemption, and their interaction, going from two guys who barely tolerated each other ending up close friends. It had everything to be an amazing show.

But then in the last episodes The Falcon is reduced to his skin color and Bucky's importance is diminished. The show previously hinted him as the White Wolf, the leader of Wakanda's Secret Service, to end in nothing. He becomes just a side kick for the Falcon, leaving his talent and skills underdeveloped.

And worse, it becomes West Wing with Sam Wilson as President Bartley. The politicization of Captain America, something Steve Rogers always fought against, being even the reason for the "Civil War" against Iron Man Stark, becomes the peak of the narrative.

We fans watch the MCU and Avengers for fantasy and awe, not as a political documentary. The 4 minute speech by the new Captain America is out of place and full of platitudes. If this hints to Captain America 4 as a political show, I'm out.

I still want a Season 2 or another movie for #TFATWS because the two main characters are much more than a political tool, this time focusing on Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier/The White Wolf, who was so underused. I hope Sebastian Stan's strong acting skills and Bucky's fascinating story as the Winter Soldier and Wakanda's White Wolf may be better developed and explored in a future project.

Firelight
(1997)

Beautiful and sensible movie
This is a gem of a movie. The actors are outstanding, the plot beautifully played. I just recommend to please watch it and enjoy the two lovers' repressed and passionate love, their daughter growing up without a visible mother, and the firelight that stills time and enables dreams to become real for a night.

The lakehouse, the winter, the pond, the fog are all part of the scenery and the characters' dreams. A beautiful tale masterly presented. Every word, every gest, every fight, every kiss make it an outstanding movie.

The Scarlet Letter
(1995)

I loved this movie so much...
It's my 3rd time watching this film. I first watched it when it was released. It is a great movie, full of passion, superstition, fear, and the feelings of discovery and novelty of creating a new world in America.

Demi Moore is in her prime of beauty and sensuality here. She is one of the most beautiful and attractive actresses, together with Susan Sarandon. They're ageless women. Her chemistry with Gary Oldman is so powerful. He's in a very special role here, as a lover, and I really enjoyed seeing both of them in this fiercely and strong love story.

I understand that people dislike it because the movie story deviates from the book. I found it creative and new. Their story being told by their daughter Pearl adds another interesting development.

I really enjoy watching this movie and totally recommend it as a story of love, passion, sin, guilty, and redemption.
