The Untouchables
(1987)

Hated almost every bit of it.
...yet i give it a 4, because all the scenery, outfits & locations were brilliant.

But what about that acting, man! I am truly at my most objective when i say that Costner sucks sooo much. I read one review that explained that his performance was the way it is because of the real character Eliot Ness, as described in some book. Well, that may be so, but at the end of the day, i am the view and i haven't read that damn book, and it is I who has to be convinced in what i see on the screen in front of me, and i felt ashamed and cringed whenever i saw him! Bland, stiff, with that really dumb look in his eyes, i just couldn't stand it, and even felt bad about - i really tried to like this movie! The screenwriters made his character the all-winning star of Chicago police department, the hero who smashed the villains with a pure good heart and some tough attitude. In this case, even the tough attitude was missing. I just couldn't take him seriously. Yeah, maybe De Niro was over the top, but he breathed *mean* and arrogant. Connery's acting (and overall character) was too much for me. The old man who always knows best and runs around screaming at people, at all times obsessed with Capone and his gang. And I liked Drago's 10 screen minutes, he's a nice villain like always. And my liking ends there.

4 stars for the nice suits and nothing more to do here.

Shame
(2011)

Pretentious. Slow. Confused.
So, i suppose this movie is supposed to be a revolutionary master-piece just because it deals with sexual addiction. Well, i was not offended at any level by none of the extreme nudity scenes i saw, nor the topic itself; i understood the story right away. And yet i find this movie far too slow paced (and i usually like "slow" movies) and boring at times with the long unnecessary scenes where i am forced to watch him run and run and run and run or stand in the elevator with a blank face with hours, or whatever; scenes from which a better structured movie could actually benefit. I couldn't get a clear grip of what the main character has in his head, and that annoyed me all the time. He is this shell of a human being, he is totally afraid of contact with any woman as a person, and that's it. All the internal struggle he presumably has is down to one scene where he cries on the rain after seeing his sister in the hospital. In my opinion, that's pretty weak in a movie with such pretentious goals.

Café de Flore
(2011)

Loved it...
At the beginning, i thought that the movie is too slow for me, but then, when i finally let myself to it and just went along with the story, i really loved it. I feel somehow different after watching it, my state of mind has been changed, and i feel so light and heavy at the same time. I appreciate it the most when a movie makes a change in my soul. That's why i gave this movie such a good rating.

Other than that, the acting was great, and the story was more or less original. Well, original enough for me. Beautiful music, nicely woven into the plot; excellent photography. This movie has a real potential. Nostalgia-driven, expressive, thought-provoking, at times optimistic and at times deeply sentimental, it teaches about "letting go". And i feel that's a truly important lesson in life. It deserves all the attention it can get.

Loved it.

Sex and the City 2
(2010)

Those are not the women i knew.
There cannot be a woman out there able to hate the series. Personally, i am not your typical SATC fan. I am into doom metal, beer and psychology.

Loving this show is like being in a passionate yet stabile relationship - the love lasts forever & every time you watch the re-runs you discover something new and exciting; and i've been dating it since my teen years! After all, the 90's are my most favorite thing on earth! In the series, I didn't even really LIKE Carrie's nutty outfits or Sam's costumes, but i have always been certain that that is true urban fashion. Even nowadays when i watch some old episodes i still feel the same about it. Also, I didn't agree with many highlighted moments in the show; but i always felt like it was the best thing ever made. Fun, flirty, contemplative enough, appearing as materialistic and shallow but actually quite meaningful in a classic manner. The world was changing fast, and people's private lives were in trouble.

Given all that, this movie failed all SATC fans. Those creatures i saw in the movie are definitely not the women we all shared troubles with, full of envy and joy for their Manhattan lifestyle, nope. Not the cult characters that inspired ways of thinking and behaving for many generations. First of all, i could not wrap my mind around the idea that they are all so wealthy! One thing i especially loved about Carrie was her pretty much normal life: struggling with money yet carefree.

Actually...you know what? I started writing this prepared to bitch slap this movie, but the following is the only thing i really wanna say. SATC is a unforgettable cult show. As such, it should have never been exploited for making freak-festish awkward no-brain movies for the sole purpose of sucking money out of the legions of lustful fans. Nothing will ever be good enough to be its sequel/prequel/whateverthef**k-quel. SO JUST LEAVE IT ALONE!

Weeds
(2005)

Unwatchable.
1 for awful. Awful indeed. How could anyone like this? OK, i admit, i might have had a somewhat better opinion (3 stars max.) about this show if it weren't for that incredibly annoying Mary-Louise Parker, whose acting here is beyond my ability to explain a disaster. It's almost physically painful to watch anything she does or says, in fact it looks like she's bored all the time. All of the other characters are also HIGHLY one-dimensional and unlikable, and the plot can be described with one simple word: dumb.

This show is definitely not my cup of tea, and i would very much like to stay away from people who actually watch it. Thank you.

Hercules
(1997)

Get real, people!
Wow. What a spiteful bunch of comments to read. There is WAY TOO MUCH hate in this world, eh? This movie is one of the few i clearly and joyfully remember as a childhood favorite. I even remember i had a computer game with Herc that i absolutely loved. So, watched it again today (thats a HUGE time gap), no intentions, random selection. I was less impressed, of course, the magic feeling i had then could not be repeated, but i still enjoyed it a lot. From today's point of view, the aesthetics are almost worthless, but i don't see why such a thing should cloud the viewer's judgment. The world has changed!

As a kid who grew up with this particular movie and all of other Disneys adaptations, i am here to say WHEN I WAS A KID, I WAS ENCHANTED WITH THIS MOVIE. So were all of the other kids i knew. Therefore, all of the 'concerned parents' commenting here, i can't believe you. People like YOU will find something treatening and offensive in anything! The world was such a better place when parents in general weren't paranoid freaks! No wonder your kids don't enjoy it today, they are used to all the modern crap the media feeds them.

It is true that the facts aren't true. But who really cares? It is for children, right? For me, this was just enough to make me fall in love with Greek myths, and learn as much as i can about them as i grew up. That was the point. Everyone who wants to know the real story, can look up for it. This is a positive distortion of it, and it is the best way to present things in a kid's mind. You got the villain, the hero, the pretty girl, the helpers. You can't give children complex drama and bloody plot twists....i mean really?!

I really don't think that this movie deserves all of this negative criticsm. A) It is FOR KIDS. Sc**w the facts, if they are a bit too much! B) We, the kids of that era, LOVED it. C) You cannot make a parallel between technology now and the one used 10+ ago. As far as originality is concerned, i found the 'nipple'spirals used in this movie a really interesting touch, because they reflect well upon the image and style of the ancient times.

Sex and the City
(1998)

SATC had a fine role in the lifes of women worldwide
I love the 90's. And it's not that i'm a nostalgic wimp not able to cope with the modern world. I just loved the 90's spirit. And i'm so very grateful for this show as one of the many who portray those days pretty perfectly. For all the ones who hate the show for absurd reasons: How can you people expect for all of life aspects to be captured in one show? What would that look like?! You say that this show depicts a superficial environment and that normal women cannot connect with it, and you're wrong. The point is not in the glitter, glam life, brands and shoes and whatever else, because those are just 'accessories' one lifestyle can have, and beyond them it's about that clichéd hunt for love, happiness, success and friendship, the race we're all in. It's just shown from a blunt and harsh reality view. I don't live their lifes at all, and yet, i have found myself in many many same situations. And after all, i enjoyed the series a lot. It has satisfied most of my needs in a television programme. Call me a shallow material girl for loving this, but i sure now that's not true, and being such a 'creature' is DEFINITELY not the reason why girls love SATC.

Judging Amy
(1999)

Intense drama
This show is on my list of all-time favorites. It seems like Amy is the major attraction, but the real star of this show is Tyne Daly. She is incredible both at portraying her character as a strong self-aware woman, as well as a woman with a gentle, many times broken heart. She's simply draws you to the screen, this crazy yet lovely and witty old lady. On the other hand, Amy seems a bit blank and awkward. How is it possible that she is so messed up and confused in her private life, kind of insecure while raising up her daughter, and lifeless in the family atmosphere, and then somehow when she walks in the office and her courtroom, she transforms into a incredible independent and brave woman, a true hero? But nevermind that, i love the show because of the great stories, absolutely plausible in real life, which make you think, and then think again. Life is rough. And Maxine Gray should know about it pretty good.

Bad Girls
(1999)

Definitely worth watching
I haven't seen all of the series, but from what i've seen, it's a rarely impressive TV drama. All of the characters are carefully created, and the actors are doing a great job; while you're watching, it feels like you're really a part of their crew. You share their awkward moments, fights, their joys and losses; pain and hope are mixed in one here. And yet, tension and stress is not all that this show has to offer, there's a lot of fun moments too. And after all, a lot of love going on. These women have countless flaws, but they are still valuable human beings, and their hearts and souls are not made from stone. I'd definitely watch it again.

The Audrey Hepburn Story
(2000)

Was THAT a movie about Audrey Hepburn?
I can't say that i'm the greatest Hepburn fan there is, and i'm sure i don't know as many facts about her life as the majority of review authors here, but i sincerely respect and admire her work, charisma and cultural figure. Audrey Hepburn is love at first sight. And as it happens, i saw 'The Audrey Hepburn story' for the first time today. Found it accidentally, while i was searching for something to kill my Saturday morning boredom. At first sight, i was SHOCKED. My brain was processing the name 'Audrey Hepburn' with pleasant feeling, while my eyes were trapped in the greatest of pains by the sight of J.L. Hewitt under that title.

...how could you?!?

I usually don't mind seeing J.L.Hewitt on the screen, because her typical roles are shallow and meaningless, and she is just another blurry-whatever-TV face with suspicious amount of talent for me, but she gets some kind of audience anyway, so it's OK. But this was outrageous. She was purely IRRITANT. Even with a good plot, she would have blew it up. The girl simply doesn't fit! Of course, many ingredients are needed in order to make a good movie of any kind, but i believe that even if many of those ingredients are missing, a good lead role can balance the efforts.

Audrey Hepburn is magic, aura, energy, charm, beauty, vibration, sunrays, elegance, courage, uniqueness, a feeling of warmth and joy when you see her unforgettable appearance. A reason for pride in all the women in the world. She deserves much, much more. It is as simple as that.

Alegría
(1999)

So beautiful it will make you cry...
The first time i saw this movie was when i was just a kid. I couldn't exactly point out what the movie was about, but i kind of got the picture of the exploited children and it left me in terror, filled with strong impressions. I couldn't explain my exact opinion about it, but i know i felt some dark, sad magic that never left my soul. I even think that this is one of the movies/songs/stories that shaped my view of reality, my personality and emotional body. And today i'm very pleased because it happened like that.

The next time i saw it was a few months ago, and the magic feeling happened again. It looked like a world i've dreamed of while being a child, it touched me right at the deepest point, again. I think its very complex and simple at the same time; originally, it tells about love, but at the same time it examines many more themes that a very few people have tried (or succeeded) to portray on film...the life in the circus, that unusual life about which we hear so little, the beautiful things those people do, their own way of creating art, their feelings behind the curtains and the eternal laughter, after the crowd clears up and animals leave in silence....so intense and powerful, and beyond all, inspirational!! The love of the two unusual characters is sweet, fragile, and you will want it to happen so badly, as if it was your own heart that's aching...you want those people to be happy, to sing "Alegria" with their hearts full of joy, even though they don't have that much in the material way of seeing things. Also, the music is extraordinary. I immediately downloaded the soundtrack. And i'll say only one word to complete this review that brought back so many memories and feelings.

Magical.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
(2000)

Watchable, yet too plastic
I believe that the thing i hate mostly about criminal series is the...perfection. They always solve the cases in that steady rhythm, just like a well trained music band. So nice, so easy, so sci-fi at moments, with everybody doing their job brilliantly, with the help of their uber cool technical equipment; almost iritant. It is somewhat enjoyable, i suppose because of the use of excellent cinematic techniques, but i can never get excited watching it. I can't get in touch with the victim, i can't feel what the killer felt, i can't get upset when some supposedly important twist happens. I'm never surprised. Alright, i know i'm asking for too much out of an hour long episode, but even in such case, i don't think it's impossible do make that level of quality investigation drama happen. In CSI, it just feels like it's all about the looks; the show looks good and it's estheticaly very pleasant, but wait a minute, what about the story?

Twilight
(2008)

Laughed my ass off! What a money sucking crap.
I couldn't freaking believe it. What an incredible piece of ****. I had the awful experience to read the book, i had the double awful experience of hearing some friends blabber about what wonderful story it is, and last but not least, i had one of the worst cinematic experiences in my life watching this movie!

All of you die-hard fans better shut up and stick with your beloved Twilight novels. As i've noticed, any normal person above the age of 15, with some decent values of good acting and satisfying plot agrees with me about this movie. Actually, what the hell am i saying, the fans of Twilight are already teens full of the secret desperate wish of being noticed by a hot vampire. One of my greatest interests is literature and especially Gothic arts, besides i'm a writer myself, and i still can't stop wondering why the heck people say that Twilight is a good serial. OK, you may like it, it's your right, you're amazed by the story because it matches to your own shallow dark fantasies, but you can't say it's GOOD, because it simply ISN'T.

Alright, about the movie. I watched it yesterday with my brother and his girlfriend, and all i can say is that we didn't know how to react on most of the scenes. I laughed at most of them, because i didn't know what else to do, apart from covering my eyes. I mean, what in the world was happening to Bella? What personality did she show in this movie? "Hi, i'm Bella and i'm very misanthropic. I love Edward, i'm not sure why, i guess because he's hot and he can always save my ass when i get in trouble, because, ya know, he has these superpowers. Other than that, i'm lame, unfriendly, don't have any facial expressions and can't feel any other emotions, and i like to stare at people with the most painful look i can pull of, and make them think i am about to puke." Geez. There are TOO many awkward scenes, it's just unbearable to watch it. They stare at each other, they stare at other people, they stutter and engage in meaningless, boring and extremely irritant chats...i'm simply speechless. Actually, i'm only left to wonder was that horrible acting part of Catherine's wonderful plan, or they are naturally so untalented? Indeed, all of the Cullen vampires acted very strangely, they all looked like they're about to puke!

One of the weirdest things (but also one of the things anyone hardly notices) is the amount of friends Bella made in her new school. I mean, being so indifferent, boring, confused and cold blooded all the time, and avoiding contact with humans at almost any cost, and all of those people simply felt a unexplainable urge to have her as a friend? That's definitely not the way things are in the real world.

The romance between Bella and Edward also was a pure pain in the ass. It almost made me suicidal. Yuck! When did that love-for-eternity happen? At one point the viewer is very confused, torn between Edwards stupid facial expression and Bella's boring character, and right in the other minute she confesses that she wants to have him for eternity. What the heck? It simply looks like her character is invented only for the purpose of adoring Edward, even though "he could hurt her".

Pathetic from every angle. I'm so sick and tired of these glittery Hollywood twists of beautiful legends and stories. They have a way of ripping the soul out of every one of them. I hope that the cast, director and of course that Meyer woman made a lot of money out of this hilarious tragedy, because that was their only goal with this crappy serial and this even crappier movie (yes, that is possible) anyway. Most of the fans of the books don't even bother to be honest to themselves and admit that this is a bad movie. But nevermind, they're fans already and they'll swallow up anything related to the *brand* Twilight, a situation very similar to a mass brainwash, hm? But i STRONGLY recommend the non-Twilighters to stay away from this...thing. Your eyeballs shall never forgive you.

Midsomer Murders
(1997)

Excellent show!
I'm a big fan of the series, and compared to the predictable, dull and often shallow (or too perfect) American crime series like C.S.I & so on, Midsomer Murders is more than fantastic! The interesting camera angles, the countryside, the detailed work on personalities, plots and scenes, the quality of the humor, the spontaneous chats, the intriguing characters...extremely enjoyable! My all-time favorite! I'm really disappointed when i'm watching some other crime series and the characters or stories simply can't touch me and help me connect with them, or when the episode theme itself doesn't give me a reason for further discussion, thinking or just being shocked. And there are plenty of those -fix the bomb and save everybody in the last 5 minutes- series around. I'm not looking for the perfect heroes, i'm looking for some ordinary tales that get a sick twist! If anybody agrees with my opinion, Midsomer Murders is the right series for you.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?
(1990)

Want to see it again!
This was my favorite childhood serial! I'd watch every episode of it, even though i was scared to hell. Those morbid yet meaningfull situations attracted me with an amazing power, it was simply deeper than the other pink glittery children show i could watch and surprisingly, i loved that. I just feel that the shows like this one and the first books i read as a kid, pretty much shaped the person i am today, and i am very thankful for that because i think i came out good.

Anyway, i'll never forget the episode with the clown, it appears it was called "The Tale of the Crimson Clown", because it was my worst nightmare for years, lol. I'm dying to watch this show all over again and see how i'll respond to it and compare with my past reactions!

7th Heaven
(1996)

Terrible.
..who cares about anything else, i love the house. Man, i love American houses. The view itself gives a cozy feeling.

But thats it.

For some unknown reason, this show has been running for a long time here in Macedonia. And tons and tons of reruns. And its on one of the best programs, not on the national television that often puts crappy shows on the list because their budget is draining. I usually catch an episode or two during the week, and definitely watch it on Sunday, on that day i simply don't bother enough to avoid anything. Its Sunday, the lunch is slowly cooking, people are laughing all around you, who gives a damn? And so we have the lovely Camdens, glittering with their cheesy happiness on my screen.

I could never understand, how was it possible that Lucy and Mery, and many of the female characters shown, were so shallow and kind-of slutty, mainly worrying about guys and having 10 dates with different boys in a week, and on the other hand accepting many conservative and strict morale codes in the family and society around them. That classifies as hypocrisy, i believe?

For example, my religion is orthodox (although i'm not religious at all), my family leads a much more spontaneous (and passionate, filled with joy but anger too) life, i occasionally drink alcohol and i've had premarital sex, and yet, i'd never do any of the stupid mistakes these children do, and my family life is much happier, with more profound and solid values. But when it happens that i take the wrong decision, i never hide myself behind fake morality after the 'boom'. Damn it, while i watch it, i feel like the happiest person in the world because i don't live there! I laugh to tears and punch my brother for no reason, and then we laugh together!

Hypoctritic, unrealistic, fake sweet, and too conservative. So in the other countries where its running, like in mine, it gives USA filming a BAD reputation.
