Sumaho o otoshita dake na no ni
(2018)

What you think, isn't what you think, or is it?
In an era where attention spans seem fleeting, my newfound obsession with foreign films has been nothing short of transformative. It's not just about the breathtaking cinematography that transports you to distant lands; it's the art of storytelling that truly captivates. Take, for instance, the latest gem I stumbled upon. At first glance, it appeared to be a simple narrative, but oh, how wrong I was. With every scene, the plot twisted and turned, unraveling layers of complexity that left me utterly enthralled.

I won't dare spoil the experience for fellow cinephiles, but suffice it to say, it was good. No, scratch that - it was phenomenal. The kind of film that leaves an indelible mark on your soul, compelling you to hit the rewind button and delve into its depths once more. And the director - a master of their craft, weaving together a tapestry of emotions and intrigue that kept me on the edge of my seat.

As a film student, I've come to appreciate the power of storytelling, and this film embodies everything I aspire to create. It's not just entertainment; it's a visceral experience that lingers long after the credits roll. So, here's to more adventures in foreign cinema, where every frame holds the promise of discovery and enlightenment. This, my friends, is what film is all about."

"Diving into Today's Movies: Where Storytelling Falls Short, Diversity Feels Forced, and Cinematic Magic Fades"
I was surprised to learn that the film had three separate writers. Although the plot appeared simple, the movie, despite featuring familiar faces, lacked any profound meaning. I typically seek out movies that hold a special place in my heart, like "Jingle All The Way" and many others, but contemporary films often fail to evoke that emotional resonance. One scene felt cliché, attempting to be inclusive by featuring every ethnicity and non-binary individual on one couch, potentially diluting its impact.

Regarding technical aspects, the cinematography is minimal. While the aerial view of Los Angeles from 3400 feet is visually striking, it doesn't contribute much beyond that. Despite being advertised as a holiday movie, you will notice there isn't much in the film that reiterates this.

"Nostalgic Sequel Struggles: A Melody Misfit and Character Conundrum in the 90s Revival"
Crafting a sequel to a beloved 90s film in today's landscape is undoubtedly challenging. Regrettably, this attempt falls short, as characters seem further simplified and the music, although well-intentioned, feels like an ill-fitting accessory to the film-a bit like worn-out socks with new shoes. The narrative is marred by numerous plot holes, leaving viewers perplexed about certain developments.

While the sequel's timing may be considered overdue, the return of childhood favorites is a nostalgic nod. However, the execution disappoints, deviating from what made the original iconic. A shift towards more restaurant scenes and a reduction in musical elements would have maintained the essence of the original, preserving its charm and authenticity. Though this review reflects personal expectations, it acknowledges the challenging task of breathing new life into a classic while honoring its roots.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles
(1987)

One of the best, most underrated, heart grabbing, tear jerking, giggle inducing films I've ever watched.
Movies like this are few and hard to come by. Nothing has ever been able to make me laugh and almost cry. You really have to understand the depth of the characters. It has become a tradition in my home to watch this the day before Thanksgiving and it is in my opinion one of the best films made revolving around Thanksgiving. John and Steve did such a wonderful job. It's a shame his life was taken so soon and the director / writer, also taken so soon. Thank you all for this masterpiece and making my world, a whole lot better.

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is a cinematic triumph that seamlessly blends uproarious comedy with heartfelt moments. The dynamic chemistry between the lead actors fuels the film's hilarity, delivering a rollercoaster of laughs that keeps audiences engaged from start to finish. The plot's unpredictability adds a refreshing layer to the journey, ensuring that every twist and turn is met with genuine surprise. The director's keen eye captures the chaos of travel in a way that resonates universally. This classic is a testament to the enduring appeal of well-crafted humor and remains a timeless choice for those seeking a genuinely enjoyable cinematic experience.

Better Call Saul
(2015)

A prequel worthy of being made and a true necessity.
There is something special about this universe. You long for more of it. Like an addict, looking for a fix, in the end you'll still be looking for that fix.

The series as a whole is fantastic and there is shortage of greatness from the actors and actresses alike. The story telling is fantastic and the cinematography is on point. (Albuquerque tends to make that easier, of course)

The initial first 3 seasons gave you everything you wanted and you expected and needed more of it. But as season 5 came along, you knew it was growing darker and by season 6 is where you started to have diminishing hope in this character. In hindsight, looking back at this. Something is a miss with this season. It's not the show we asked for and much time is being spent where it doesn't need to be. The finale doesn't do justice for the character we've grown to love and know. It all seems like a blur at this point and you're left wondering where it went wrong.

Jericho

The best shows always get cancelled.
I will never for the life of me understand why she some shows like Grey's anatomy in days of our lives can go on well beyond the youth of its cast and shows such as this don't really see the light of day despite such a loud up roar for it, I love the show and the cast and I am hopeful that one day they will bring it back such a good show and an amazing cast. there are a lot of deep and emotional moments throughout the series if you give it the time of day you'll see what I'm talking about, I want to thank the creators of the show as well as the actors and everyone who worked on it for bringing us such good entertainment

Overlord
(2018)

Started with a bang, downhill from there.
Movie started off looking like a real war movie, one we so desperately need right now and it quickly took a downhill run with unnecessary bull$-&. The direction got worst as the movie progressed, too bad it had so much potential to tell a great story with beautiful cinematography.

Hell Ride
(2008)

Beautifully crafted, a desert masterpiece.
Why can't I see more movies like this? Be patient, the plot will make sense in the end but until then just sit back and enjoy the ride and what a wild ride it's been. Fast action camera panning and beautiful desert landscape and on point cinematography, I couldn't have asked for more. I liked this movie alot and had my attention.

Sam Was Here
(2016)

1998 and it feels exactly like 1998!
Having seen this film twice, it becomes more beautiful and apparent each time, the soundtrack immersed me it the apocalyptic southern landscape I've grown to love so much, the film was a product of a previous short by the same creator which I also want to see.

The film leaves a lot up to the imagination or so you think? The more you watch it and pay attention to every detail of the film the more apparent is really is.

Aside from this, the cinematography is spot on, color grading is perfect and the soundtrack suit the mood exactly. I look forward to more from the creators of this. Thank you for making a beautiful but crazy movie.

What They Had
(2018)

A grim and surreal look into a hard to understand disease
This film isn't just about a disease, but a life well spent and a life well lived. The drama between your inner circle, the ups and downs and most importantly the commitment that is needed to see it all through.

Such Grammy material, superb and beautiful acting by the main fast and the message itself is one to take to the heart. I highly recommend this film.

Sunken City
(2014)

Excellent visuals and story-line and a rare glimpse into San Pedro and all of it's beauty!
Having grown up in San Pedro, it was refreshing to see a movie shot around familiar scene's, The movie has a laid-back, crime-solving, pot-smoking and Caribbean vibe. I love films like this, beautiful scenery and a funny story line that to me, goes together just right!

Sit back, Relax and if you can manage to see this movie, add it to your Friday night list!
