Visually is great, except for the substitute actors I loved the original LOTR and The Hobbit Trilogies. It is a pity that Peter Jackson did not try to make more movies from this epic world of Tolkien.
This new series is not very different visually, albeit I still believe that Peter Jackson and co. Put more effort in the final result.
Nevertheless, I simply cannot ignore the new faces that are supposed to substitute. The new Gil-Galad is portrayed by Benjamin Walker, who is quite similar to the original Gil-Galad from the LOTR, who was portrayed by Mark Ferguson. Btw, why isn't Benjamin Walker's name displayed in the list of actors for the first 3 episodes???
Now, Morfydd Clark as Galadriel does not really match either in personality or in appearance with Galadriel played by Cate Blanchett. Cate was pethereal, bivalent, so mysterious. This new Galadriel is just too simple, too direct.
The rest of the characters are just too difficult to deal with. Robert Aramayo's face is a kind of mixture between Leonardo di Caprio and Legolas. Too light a personality and a character so different from that of Hugo Weaving, thus would never ever put him in the place of Elrond.
So for me, casting had a huge negative impact on the whole movie. That the elves had short hair a few thousand years before the era of the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogies, may be acceptable - different times, different fashions.
