Avgrunden
(2023)

Not as bad as some make out....
Yes, it's an okay budget, and yes it's Swedish. But why do people compare against Hollywood films? There is more to life than Hollywood! The effects and the acting are not bad, the thing that let it down is the 'English' dubbed version is in American English. With which European languages do not translate correctly into American English. It's totally dubbed for the American market, yet it fails for the rest of the world. As a native British English speaker, I find it annoying with 'Americanisms' that are used where else in the world they are not!

I re watched it in Swedish with English American subtitles. Much much better! Give it a go in its native language!

The Ruins
(2008)

Hmmmm, hit and miss
I don't know how this has got a score it has. Terrible acting and terrible script.

Some of the reviews on here say - based in South America. It's actually part of Central America (central/southern part of Mexico) Aztecs/Mayans = Mexico/Central America. Incas South America - big difference! Simple Geography/History. I learnt it at 9 lol.

Anyway, I enjoyed it as a simple 'watch' nothing exciting in it at all. A little bit predictable. But heh, it's low low budget, you don't really expect anything else. 4/10 for the whole thing... and that's being generous. For the actual acting and scrips no more than 2/10.

Moonfall
(2022)

Perseverance pays off a little.....
Not the type of film I'd normally watch. Yes the script and the storyline was typical Hollywood cheese fest. The CGI with the flooding was very very poor. Small boats the size of a house.... waves the wrong size for the model buildings .... the proportions were totally wrong.

But saying that, the CGI got a lot better. Almost as if it was made by different companies in different decades.

If you like your typical Hollywood predictable story, then it's one for you. American writers - please remember 'American English' spoken by an English person is a no no! It sounds so fake. Yes I understand that the film is made generally for the American market and most of them wouldn't even know that English people do not speak like that.

It got a 5 star from me. If you can't find anything descent to watch, then this film is for you. Better than nothing!

But it's what we Brits would call a 'Straight to DVD' film as it's not good enough for Cinema.

The Nan Movie
(2022)

Disregard the negative posts on here....
Yes, some bits were iffy, and age wise man would be over 100, calculating from the flashbacks... It's a film with laughs and a few sad bits. But it had a point to the story 'blood is thicker than water' Yes the police officer wouldn't have had jurisdiction and yes 'ban' wouldn't have been able to sleep all the way across the Irish Sea in the van on the ferry. Take thinkg at face value and just enjoy it.

There was a couple of reviews on here mentioning it should have been made 10 years ago. I agree there. The Nan character was more prominent then. The Christmas Special - Nan's Christmas Carol (2004) got 7.4 on IMDb - I had the privilege of being in the audience for the live recording.

I noticed one continuity error, which quiet honestly is rare for a film.

Sit back and enjoy!

Dodger
(2022)

It is what it is....
It's a childrens programme, made for CBBC. It is being aired on BBC1 for family viewing. It's over acted as most childrens drama is, to make it more enjoyable for children. Just as pantomimes are. So the harsh comments on here are not justifiable. You can't compare it to Oliver or any other Dickens stories/drama's. It is loosely based upon the Artful Dodger. Nothing more, nothing less. With regards to the 'diversity' comments - does it really matter? It's a story. Do people think only 'white' people existed in London in the 1830's? It's a childrens drama. Diversity should not matter in the slightest. After all, children do not know any different.

The set and costumes are excellent.

Yes the acting is OTT. But you do have to remember it's a Childrens programme. For the age of 6 upwards. If it was acted as per any normal Dickens type drama children would lose interest as it would be too serious for them.

Das Privileg
(2022)

Always watch a non English film in Original language...
Netflix are terrible at dubbing in appalling American English. Translations are in American English rather than English. A completely different dialect. Therefore doesn't translate the script correctly and makes it sound poorly scripted.

Don't compare this film to typical American Hollywood where the synopsis for this genre of film is always the same.

Watch with an open mind and enjoy it, I certainly did as I watched it in German - the original language.

Privorot. Chernoe venchanie
(2021)

Ignore the negativity ....
I thought it was a very good story. I'm thinking a lot of the negative reviews are on the 'acting' the only bad acting/script is the Americanisation of the dubbing. The rest of the world don't speak with an American dialect. So makes this Russian film seem poorly scripted. But it's not. Just poorly dubbed.

It's certainly not the predictable Hollywood type supernatural/horror. Yet again possibly why some are negative towards it. Because it's just not Hollywood enough!

The Deep House
(2021)

It could have been.....
.... So much better.

The concept was good, as there are hundreds of buildings submerged under reservoirs. The acting was bad, but the script was appalling. Having an American (yes I know he has an English father) speaking British English with an Americanised script just doesn't go. It's like the difference between chalk and cheese. English people do not generally speak 'American English' if they do, it's sounds so fake. Perhaps why the acting/script seems so bad.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
(2013)

I don't get it....
I have tried watching a few episodes. But.... It's like watching a tv programme for 10yo's. Or is that just the way American so called 'comedy' is?

It's very childish to say the least. Over exaggerated mannerisms and not the slightest bit funny. It's just stupid. The sort of programme you'd put any unknown poor acting actors in. On par with Frasier - poor!

Halloween Kills
(2021)

What a massive disappointment ...
Nothing you haven't seen before ..... supposedly a continuation of the story ..... didn't realise they had drones back then (not!) 40 minutes - then switched off!

If you like poorly made films - then go for it lol.

War of the Worlds
(2019)

Disregard the low ratings if you're not American....
Far better than some of the series that comes out of the USA. It's not full of 'America saves the day' typical USA TV series.

It has a good story from beginning to end. Yes some parts are predictable. But arn't a lot of series?!

Totally based in England and France, and a good mix of British/Irish/French actors

A BIG plus, each episode flits between both countries. Without having to put a 'Place stamp' on each scene change. Knowing that Europeans already know where places are without having to tell you where they are.

All in all, good story, and plausible. Unlike many series.

Yes it has the title 'War of the Worlds' but it is nothing like the Hollywood made productions of the same or similar name. And shouldn't be associated with.

Deceit
(2021)

Gripping true story (based on)
Well written and acted. Based in 1992 London. WPC undercover entrapment Story. But all is not what it seems; The mini series of four episodes tells the compelling true story. (Some characters and events are adaptations to tell the story)

Van Helsing
(2016)

I'm on S01:Ep8
Please tell me the acting and the script gets better....

Axel character - oh my, appalling acting!

I'm not sure I can sit through 50+ more episodes at the current rate of acting and script! :(

The Tomorrow War
(2021)

It's okay!
A very predictable 'America saves the day' type film.

CGI 9/10 Acting 6/10 Script - Hollywood Cheese 3/10 Storyline - a good concept, but stupid at times 7/10

So overall 25/40 for me

'The whole world is fighting the aliens - perhaps they should have had joint forces from other nations in the film. Would have been better. Hence why at the top I called it 'America saves the day'

It's free on Amazon Prime - Doubt it would have done well at the Cinema - which is a shame.

Sijipeuseu: The Myth
(2021)

Addicted....
On episode 12 ..... can't wait to finish it!!

What an excellent story. So many twists and turns!

Only let down is the really bad 'American English' dubbing - it's actually worse than bad, it's appalling! Original Korean with English subtitles is much better.

Skylines
(2020)

Not bad, but......
What an appalling 'American' script. English actors talking America English just doesn't work. The U.K. and the USA may share a language - loosely I may add. It's the same as French and French Canadian, similar but very very different. If you are going to have British actors talking with their own accents, it's needs to be a British script. Not American. As we do not talk like Americans do. I'm guessing the people that slated this film are American who just don't understand and English accent.

Centigrade
(2020)

Well...... what can I say?
..... not even worth a 1 star. If it is based on true events, well I'm sorry.... the original people should have known better .... enough said.

This shouldn't even make it to the £1/$1 shop

The Haunting of Margam Castle
(2020)

Well......
Continuity for a starter..... New York setting at first, yet the fire exit sign is EU ...... plug sockets are UK .... and that's before they even leave the U.S.A Appalling acting ...... appalling script ...... appalling everything actually ..... the only thing that is real is Margam Castle (which isn't actually a castle)

I was generous with the 1 star

Cursed
(2020)

Oh my oh my oh my ......
People do realise that Arthur and Escalibur are not real don't they? So what is wrong with loosely having a similar story? With regards to people saying about 'diversity' .... umm it's only a bleeding story ..... ITS NOT REAL!!! There are pagans, Christians (Romans) and vikings yet people didn't pick up on the the fact that they are all different times in England Vikings 793AD Monks 972AD Real King Arthur 600AD (ish) against the Saxons Fictitious King Arthur 1470AD (as in the round table fiction)

FIRST BLACK PEOPLE IN ENGLAND 1555AD

OH ..... and modern English is 1550AD

Ponder on all that ..... 👍🏻🤔😜

IT'S ONLY A DRAMA PROGRAMME - NOT FACTUAL - NOTHING MORE - NOTHING LESS

Freaks - Du bist eine von uns
(2020)

Don't watch it 'dubbed into American English'....
.... They use lower level actors to do the dubbing, the scrips when Translated (incorrectly) into American English is diabolical. Watch with the original sound - German with English subtitles. ((English subtitles are no way as bad a translation as the dubbing - truer to the original script). American English dubbing and the English subtitles do not match))

It seems as this is a pilot to a tv series - we will see. It certainly has potential.

Invictus
(2009)

Excellent .....
What an excellent film. Just watched it on BBC1

Joining a nation through sport; Rugby Union - World Cup 1995 - not many can say that they have achieved that in the slightest.

It was great that it wasn't political. And that it didn't portray segregation; Just how things can be intergrated.

I know it's only a film - based on a true story - but many countries should take heed. 👍🏻

Away
(2020)

Well .... I started but couldn't continue....
Suppose to be a joint 'nation' venture To Mars .... but it's all about 'Her' the American. Switched off after 12 minutes 👎🏻

Norsemen
(2016)

Fantastic
I'm on S1E4 ..... I haven't stopped laughing. The humour is fantastic. Dark in places but wow! It's like Vikings meets Monty Python 👍🏻 Love it. Norwegian humour very similar to British humour. I guess some English speaking countries just wouldn't get it! (Sorry America Hahahaha)

The Fall
(2013)

WOW....
Absolutely glued - just binged the 3 series. Well acted, and well written. Twists and turns in every episode. They have to..... just have to ..... copycat the killer character - using Katie as the killer - carrying on Paul's legacy at the age of 23 (age the character would be now)

Gillian Anderson - wow - what a performance! 👍🏻

Midway
(2019)

I really don't know...
How it got higher ratings?!?!. Okay the CGI was 'okay' but I got as far as 25 minutes. The acting was appalling. Was like watching a 1940's film. And before you say it ... yes I know that's the decade is set. But oh my.... no... no... no and no!
