- When railroad magnate Arthur Jepson is swindled in a stock deal and dies penniless, his son Harold is forced to quit college. When Harold's friend, Mrs. Van Epsen, suggests that he court her niece, Antoinette Hoadley, who is tired of the titled cads whom her ten million dollars attracts, Harold agrees. After Mrs. Van Epsen, Antoinette and a maid move to a New England village so that Antoinette can meet someone who does not know about her riches, Harold, encouraged by Mrs. Van Epsen to visit, feels that their ploy is dishonorable and notifies Mrs. Van Epsen that he has changed his mind. After Mrs. Van Epsen and the maid leave, Harold arrives and courts Antoinette, thinking that she is the maid. He rescues her from an oncoming train, and when he secures a job paying $25 a week, they marry. Antoinette then reveals her wealth, but he insists that they live on his salary. Soon he enters into a railroad deal that restores his fortune, allowing the couple to live in luxury.
