The main character doesn't buy, but steals the material objects she longs after. O Filho da Televisão depicts mass culture, seen from backstage. A publicist is about to launch a new advertising model, who in no time becomes his wife's lover. Soon, a child is born, embodying the metaphor of the title: The Television's Son.
