Young, modern and fluent Natwar has hope of marrying a cultured and religious girl. He does so but does not know if he has taken the right decision. His mother encouraged him during this situation. But after a few months after there marriage with his wife, he started to notice that she appears to be edgy as she does not care a bit about the household chores but is only interested in dressing and attending day-night party. How long will this go on? What will be the outcome of Natwar's behavior towards his wife?

Two movie actors are confronted by startling and hilarious obstacles.

Chandni (Rehana) and her dad (Iftekhar) belong to a well-off family. Iftekhar feels that Chandni has come of age and must get married, and he selects a groom for her and asks her to marry him. She refuses and runs away from home. She meets up with Fooman and Dhaboo and gets into a series of adventures with them, including eluding the police. One of their adventures lands them aboard a ship captained by Prem (Prem Nath), who is transporting Princess Shehzadi (Purnima) to her native land. The princess likes Prem and would like him to marry her, but Prem refuses, and as soon as they land, Prem is arrested by the King, imprisoned, and tortured. Fooman, Dhaboo, and Chandni plan to help Prem to escape, which jeopardizes their own lives.

Roma (Meena Shorey) is on her way home after celebrating with her friends at Asha's (Yashodra Katju) place when she is attacked by two robbers who try to steal her purse. She faints as one of them brandishes a knife. Motilal (Motilal) and his friend Hiralal (Majnu) are driving through that place and scare away the robbers. After wondering what to do with the unconscious girl they decide to take her to Moti's house to render treatment. Roma makes a phone call to her father Seth Madanlal (K. N. Dhar) to tell him her whereabouts but he is too angry to know the reason why she is there except to ask her the address. On arriving there and seeing her with two men he gets angry and starts shouting which wakes up Motilal's father Seth Ramlal (Romesh Thakur) and he appears downstairs. The two fathers fight loudly and Roma is taken away by her father. Roma and Motilal fall in love with each other and want to marry. Roma's father finally agrees to the wedding but then Motilal's father is in poor health and dying so the marriage is postponed. Before dying Seth Ramlal calls his son and tells him to avoid three things in life. First, never drink alcohol, second not to associate with women of loose morals and the third never tell a secret to a woman. Having given his sermon the father dies. Motilal goes through the first two and realises what his father meant as he gets into trouble. For the third caveat Motilal stages a drama about murdering his friend with his help and tells Roma about it. Between Roma, who tells her friend Asha, and Asha who tells her husband who is in the police the secret is no longer a secret. Moti is arrested and the friend has disappeared. This movie depicts the life of once wealthy poet and nobleman Mirza Ghalib. This story portrays his trials, tribulations, triumphs, and utlimate descent to poverty, and then to prison; and his tragic and ill-fated love with a beautiful courtesan named Chaudvin.

Nilambhar Chakravorty belongs to a poor family, and lives in a joint family with his married brother, Pitambar, unmarried sister, Punnu, and wife, Biraj. Since his sister is of marriageable age, he arranges her marriage, and borrows some money. When Pitambar comes to know about this, he refuses to share any expense in his sister's marriage, and decides to separate, resulting in a fence being put up between their homes. Nilambher, unable to find employment, is unable to pay back the loan, and soon both he and his wife barely have enough to live on. To complicate matters further, Deodhar, a wealthy young contractor has his eye on Biraj's beauty and would like to be intimate with her, in return for money and a better life. He even hires Biraj's maidservant, Sundari, to lure Biraj to him. One day when Nilambher goes to attend a funeral in a nearby town, and does not come home for two days. When he returns he is told that Biraj had been seen hear Deodhar's place. When he questions her, she refuses to explain and he asks to get out of his house, which she does, and eventually disappears from his life altogether. All Nilambher hears is rumors that Biraj has run away with Deodhar and is leading a comfortable life, but no one knows for sure where she is or why she refused to explain to Nilambher where she was that night.

The year is 1951, India is a free country, and Hariram lives a poor lifestyle along with his wife, Bela, and a young son, Rattan. He is in debt, but continues to borrow money so that he could provide a better life for his family. On the occasion of Diwali, he borrows some more money, returns home laden with gifts, fire-crackers, and sweetmeats, and together they celebrate. That night a snake enters their hut and bites Bela, killing her, leaving both father and son devastated, so much so that Hariram takes to alcohol, loses his job, and is unable to re-pay his loan. His moneylender assaults Rattan, and an enraged Hariram threatens to kill him. That night the moneylender is killed, and the Police arrest Hariram, he is tried in court, found guilty, and sentenced to be hanged. With the help of a pickpocket named Ghasita, Rattan finds out that his father is innocent, and both set out to travel to Delhi to meet the Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru so that Hariram can be freed. On the way there, Ghasita gets run-over by a truck, but before dying gives a written statement to Rattan, thumb-printing it with his blood. Now alone, Rattan travels all the way by foot to Delhi's Dariya Ganj, and assisted by some street urchins, he hopes to meet Nehru - all in vain. It is then that the real killer shows up, and his motive is to prevent Rattan from meeting Nehru at any and all costs - even if it means killing him and his new-found friends.
