Ellen Barkin Takes Female Lead in Hands of Stone

Ellen Barkin has signed on to play the female lead in the boxing drama Hands of Stone.
Édgar Ramírez is attached to star as boxing legend Roberto Durán in the biopic, which follows his rise from the slums of Panama to boxing greatness, and his intense rivalry with Sugar Ray Leonard, portrayed by singer/actor Usher Raymond. Robert De Niro plays Roberto Durán's trainer Ray Arcel, with Ellen Barkin portraying his wife.
Jonathan Jakubowicz (Secuestro Express) is writing and directing the drama. The filmmaker is also producing alongside Jay Weisleder, Carlos Garcia de Paredes and Claudine Jakubowicz. It isn't known when production is slated to begin.
The film marks the third time that Ellen Barkin is starring with Robert De Niro, following This Boy's Life and The Fan. The actress most recently starred in Another Happy Day and the NBC series The New Normal.
