Smile is a movie that begins its session by giving you a small acid trip. Right off the bat, it sets the stage for you in a way where you would want to sit back and let it all unfold piece by piece. As the plot continues and the story moves forward from start to finish, things start to get a little slow in some places. In between the first and the last act sometimes you would want to skip forward and see the conclusion but at the same time, you would want to enjoy what's unfolding at the current moment. Director Parker Finn has made a harmony that balances between making the audience hungry and filling them in the next moment, and in that the screenplay, editing especially acting played a big role. The actors have done quite a good job of making you feel the raw emotions coming out of the screen. All in all, Smile gives you a good enough dose of horror packed with thrill to keep you seated on the chair.
Top Gun: Maverick is a movie that opens with excitement and spark which is dazzling enough to make you buckle up your seat for what's coming. Right from the opening shot to everything that follows in the first act, radiates an amount of energy that hits the spot well and doesn't quite miss. The actors in the film starting from Tom Cruise to Miles Teller, Val Kilmer and everyone else works as perfect catalysts that balance the ongoing plot and the story that keeps moving forward at a perfect pace. Talking about the story, it takes off and lands later on a smooth runway with no extra new flavor to add to the dish. The other departments have also done a good job with notable mentions of sound and cinematography whereas the editing could have gotten one more polish. Director Joseph Kosinski has created a platter of dishes that fills you up just enough so that it doesn't get bloated. All in all Top Gun: Maverick stands high as a movie that enters the room does its part, and leaves on a good note.
Tár is a movie that begins its show and moves forward while holding a strong grip on your curiosity followed by a slight amount of thrill. As the presentation continues you get introduced to this engrossing plot, which then unfolds itself and exceeds to a sturdier form. One of the eye-catching things that drop in front of us very quickly is the performance along with the screenplay. The main highlight and center of attraction Cate Blanchett has showered the screen with such a dazzling performance that it feels just one step away from being completely natural. The story starts off and finishes in an untainted form but gets a little watered down close to the end, where you want to finish it off quickly and see the conclusion. Director Todd Field has delivered a delightful harmony made with such precise ingredients that it makes you hungry and on top of that makes you want a little more in certain places. Overall Tár is a movie that's ready to be added to your watchlist and presents its harmony anytime.
