Black Mirror season 7 is one of the most buzzy seasons the anthology series has had in a long time. With two sequels to acclaimed prior entries and a cast list that includes plenty of recognizable names, this season had the potential to be an absolute knockout — something we haven’t had from Black Mirror in quite a while.

One of the things that will stand out to fans about season 7 of Black Mirror is that it has much less of a horror focus than past seasons. Of this season’s episodes, three are dramas, one is action, one is a thriller, and only one (Plaything) could really be described as straight horror. Perhaps series creator Charlie Brooker took the criticisms of season 6 having too much horror and not enough sci-fi to heart.
