I am surprised that as of May 2025 this series is only rated at 8.7. I guess the people who gave it less than a 10 found it too confusing and convoluted. This series has to be actively watched, you cannot just side-eye it while doom-scrolling on your phone and expect to understand the complex and intricate plot. The casting is great, the people speak and behave in a normal, intelligent way but you have to pay real close attention, otherwise you will get lost in the different timelines. The series is captivating, scary, often dark but always very interesting. I would highly recommend anyone who loves these genres to watch it all the way through the final episode.
I cannot understand why this series is rated 9.3 (as of April 2025). If I compare it to the other multi-generational Korean drama Pachinko, this is much inferior. The main female character is extremely annoying, almost all male characters are total wimps who cannot put two sentences together. Once the series shows the elder parents, the characters become more tolerable and realistic. In almost every freaking scene somebody is crying (female and male). It is supposed to convey emotions and pathos but ends up just aggravating and ridiculous. Another ludicrous point: poor people in rural Korea in the 70's have always multiple layers of lipstick on. Really?
This is another heartwarming movie telling the eternal story of boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy meets girl again. You could also call it "Rekindled love in the age of Covid". An absolute gem. Beautiful story, great casting and acting, awesome score. Just an overall satisfying movie with real people doing real things. No superheroes, no car chases, no explosions, just real life with the two main protagonists being from different cultures and the atom bomb on Hiroshima playing a major role. Skip all the brainless drivel Hollywood serves up all Summer and enjoy this understated heart-breaking feel-good movie.
