Bad acting, bad plot, bad fight scenes and just a complete waste of time. Story line has too many wholes in it. Would rather catch covid than watch this again.

Now I'm not against remaking almost any film.
But I have to be honest and admit most of them really are a huge let down or even worse completely rubbish.
The originals are still always out there though so they don't erase those memories for me.
However Oldboy might be one of the worst and completely unnecessary remakes of all time.
It might have been nice to introduce such a masterpiece Korean movie to those who simply refuse to read subtitles, but perhaps this is the film they deserve for that?!
Josh Brolin is simply awful here. His acting as a drunk at the beginning of the film nearly made me turn off the movie as it was so comical and not in a good way.
Samuel L Jackson is given little to do other than act like a comic book character that's wildly out of keeping with the tone the movie should be setting.
Sharlito Copley.... Ha ha ha ha. Awful. Terrible. Bad. Very bad.
A baddie you just aren't scared of or can take seriously.
Maybe this is what the director Spike Lee wanted but if he did then he's losing his mind.
Copley should spend the rest his career apologising for this performance.
Elizabeth Olsen doesn't have much to do really. Which is ridiculous seeing as she's a very important part of the story.
The Hammer scene from the original doesn't even try to match it or do it better here.
It's actually a joke how slow and bad it is watching the stuntmen take it in turns to attack.
Awful, awful film.
If you have any love for cinema watch the amazing original.
If you like watching bad acting and terrible remakes watch this but don't say you wasn't warned.

It will lower your expectation of every single involved in the film. It's not art. It's not worth your time. I think it even managed to be worse than the original which is hard to do.
This may sound like an exaggeration but truly, you will be worse off for experiencing this film.

The only enjoyment I had out of this movie is the unintenionally hilarious FATHER scene. Misses the point of everything that made the original movie great.

Worst remake of all time. Better watch original korean version. The only tiny plus is role of Samuel L Jackson.

Some thrillers should never be made in the first place no matter what language they're first created in. This movie stands as one which if I knew the ending I would have never watched in the first place. The only thing that does redeem this film is the acting by all involved.

I haven't watched the old version of it and all so, I can't really compare. What I do know for sure is that the ending is REALLY WEIRD. LEGIT WEIRD. It's so weird that I regret watching the movie now. So please think twice.
Actually no, just don't watch it, please.
I am sorry Oldboy fans.

I was actually one of the very few people who was excited about this movie. Oldboy(the original) remains to be one of my favorite films of all time. The philosophical messages, the Mise en scène, and the acting, they all came together beautifully. An American remake, created by the great Spike Lee made me feel as though this film had a lot of promise, and I was severely disappointed.
The original had an immensely shocking ending with a purpose, the shocking ending was what made me and hundreds to thousands of other audience members alike with a face of shock and disgust as the credits roll. The remake attempted to up the scale without any purpose, and still managed to be the exact opposite of shocking.
All I'm gonna say is that it has something to do with sex. The original had a purpose for it's shocking conclusion, while the remake just kept trying to up the scale clumsily and ended up falling flat on it's face. The remake also extended the beginning, it showed more light to the protagonist and actually got us to hate the guy. The original showed some light but the protagonist was still somewhat likable, at least compared to the remake.
The fascinating thing about the original is that you actually like the guy and you feel disoriented just like he is about being trapped inside a motel room.
The remake was honestly just trying way too hard to be like the original rather than being it's own film and that's why it failed. I would actually recommend seeing it if you're an aspiring filmmaker, purely for the shots that are made(The shots were remarkable. I have to say that). However as for story, acting, and as a movie as a whole? It was pretty bad.

Ok, they had me right up until the "big reveal". It was so unbelievably sick and twisted I went from an 8 to a 2. It's just a horrible ending. How could anyone think that was acceptable. I realize that it's derived from source material that is normally rough but this was disgusting in every way. It's unfortunate too because the movie itself is interesting with excellent action. It's just the ending crosses so many lines it's literally abhorrent. I can't recommend this to anyone because to be candid I'm embarrassed that I watched it. Stunned at who was in this movie accepting the roles knowing the ending. I will look at them as people differently going forward.

The 2 is because the known actors played their roles really well. I love them in many movies they have been apart of.
The negative eight was for the writers lack of effort into detail and making a challenging hunt. And the very ending was a way to finish without having to write anything.
The filming was ok but there were many scenes that didn't need the camera attached to the actor for that view of them while they wonder.
But most of all the end was disgusting with a severely sick turn that didn't need to happen.
This movie should not have been made. I would say skip it and watch something else.
