I love the 1937 film. And while this SNOW WHITE is different than the original in some ways, it honors Walt Disney's vision beautifully.
Is there still a love story? YES! The film does not shame "true love". It deals with it in a delicate way and honors it. We also get an added layer to the plot, which includes a sort of Cinderella-esque background, with the evil queen controlling those around her. And this leads to another major plot point--Snow White's desire to honor and respect her father's wishes to be a decent and fair leader.
Gal Gadot is marvelous as the evil queen. The sound effects of her movements are crisp and startling, and yes, she is the fairest of them all-for now-- but only on the outside, of course. Her transformation into the "innocent old lady" is chilling!
The dwarves are delightful! They have such character! Doc is so endearing. Dopey is so sweet, and there is a pleasant twist he brings!
I highly recommend this movie if you appreciate sweet tales that promote integrity and fairness with uplifting and inspiring themes.

Shocking deaths and sharp sound effects keep us engaged throughout this romantic slasher.
Yes, it's romantic! (But they're not a couple ;).
In fact, I was stoked by how they interwove a love story-it's actually quite deep for a horror film.
The kills? Oh so creative and dramatic and awesome.
The main characters? Realistic, engaging, relatable, fun.
This was a great Valentine's Day movie to see with my husband. The perfect blend of love and mystery and terror!
And the ending? Original.
The soundtrack? Takes us back through many decades, and it sets just the right time for each scene.
And, lastly, I just want to thank the writers for creating likeable heroes we can root for.

Writing Quality: Unoriginal script, but it works well. Great acting by the MC. The villain is one of those typical extremely fixated on "bad behavior" villains. That is, even though James, the villain, has a good woman, Alison, a beautiful home to live in, etc,. he chooses to hone in on anyone he deems unacceptable or in the way of his relationship with Alison. Which makes his behavior, of course, creepy and unpredictable.
Scare Factor: There are a few kill scenes in this one, and they happen suddenly. The scariest part occurs in the finale, where everything comes to a head.
Content (sex, language, & violence): A sex scene that shows just the implication of something about to happen. Mild language. Violence is swift except in the end where there is a lot of tussling between James and Alison for an amazing and captivating showdown.
Values & Themes: Sexual harassment, protecting from harm, second chances, best friends looking out for each other
Best Part: An intense satisfying ending
