An ancient struggle between two Cybertronian races, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, comes to Earth, with a clue to the ultimate power held by a teenager.

High-school student Sam Witwicky buys his first car, who is actually the Autobot Bumblebee. Bumblebee defends Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela Banes from the Decepticon Barricade, before the other Autobots arrive on Earth. They are searching for the Allspark, and the war on Earth heats up as the Decepticons attack a United States military base in Qatar. Sam and Mikaela are taken by the top-secret agency Sector 7 to help stop the Decepticons, but when they learn the agency also intends to destroy the Autobots, they formulate their own plan to save the world.—BRUTICUS!

When teenager Sam Witwicky buys his first car, what he doesn't know, is that it's actually an alien robot. This isn't the only alien to arrive on Earth. Optimus Prime and a fellow group of transforming robots have arrived in search of the Allspark. But Optimus Prime and the Autobots aren't the only aliens to appear. Sam Witwicky, after persuading his teacher to give him an A, gets his first car, an old Camaro. One day, Sam's car drives itself to an old junkyard where it trnsforms into Autobot Bumblebee, with the objective of protcting Sam. Meanwhile, a decepticon attacks a US military base in Qatar. It tries to steal some data but is interrupted by the base commander who cuts all server hardlines. Only a handful of soldiers survive and are taken for debriefing. The Autobots land on Earth and explain to Sam about the Allspark, an object with power to creat worlds and fill them with life. Sam finds his great great grand father's glasses on which is imprinted the cube's location. As both Autobots and Decepticon fight for the Allspark, who will it be to take the source to limitless power?—srijanarora-152-448595

Several thousand years ago, the planet Cybertron was consumed by a civil war between the two Transformer factions, the Autobots led by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) (transforms into a blue and red 1994 Peterbilt 379 semi-trailer truck) and the Decepticons led by Megatron (Hugo Weaving) (transforms into a silver Cybertronian jet). The war is for AllSpark, a cube-like object that is the source of all Cybertronian life. The Autobots want to find the AllSpark to rebuild Cybertron and end the war, while the Decepticons want to use it to conquer the universe.

Optimus jettisoned the Allspark, a mystical artifact that brings life to the planet, into space, but Megatron pursued it. Megatron crashed onto Earth, landing in the Arctic Circle and froze, and was discovered in 1897 by explorer Captain Archibald Witwicky (W. Morgan Sheppard). Witwicky inadvertently activated Megatron's navigational system, which etched the Allspark's coordinates into his glasses. Sector 7, a secret U.S. government organization, discovers the AllSpark in the Colorado River and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask its energy emissions. The still-frozen Megatron is transported into the facility and is reverse engineered to advance human technology.

The glasses eventually end up in the possession of his great-great-grandson Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Sam lives with his parents Ron (Kevin Dunn) and Judy (Julie White)

In the present, Decepticons Blackout, Scorponok, Frenzy, Barricade, Starscream, Bonecrusher and Brawl-have landed on Earth and assumed the disguise of Earth vehicles. Blackout (Megatron's third-in-command who transforms into a MH-53J Pave Low III helicopter) attacks and destroys a United States military base in Qatar in a failed attempt to hack the military network to find information on Megatron and the AllSpark. Their mission is thwarted when the base staff severs the network cable connections.

A surviving team of Army Rangers led by Captain William Lennox (Josh Duhamel) escape across the desert with photographic evidence of the robots, pursued by Blackout's drone Scorponok (A scorpion-like Decepticon and Blackout's minion). They fight Scorponok off, aided by aerial reinforcements, and travel home with Scorponok's stinger, discovering sabot rounds damaged its armor. Lennox's team discovers that the only effective weapons against the Transformers' armor are high-heat sabot rounds.

At the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense John Keller (Jon Voight) leads the investigation into the attack. Data analyst Maggie Madsen (Rachael Taylor) catches another Decepticon, Frenzy, hacking into the military network while on-board Air Force One. After Blackout's failure, Frenzy infiltrates Air Force One to hack into the military network and, in doing so, plants a virus. He finds the map imprinted on Captain Witwicky's glasses, which is owned by his descendant, Sam Witwicky. Frenzy and Barricade begin tracking Sam's location in Los Angeles.

While the hack is thwarted, Frenzy downloads files on Archibald's glasses, tracking down Sam with Barricade (The Decepticon scout and interrogator who transforms into a black 2007 Saleen S281 police car), disguised as a police car.

After Maggie proposes the possibility of the hacker not being human and gets told off by Secretary Keller, she makes a copy of the audio signal made during the hacking attempt and goes to her hacker friend Glen Whitmann (Anthony Anderson) to decode the signal. They discover fragments of a message mentioning "Project Iceman", "Sector 7", and Capt. Witwicky, but Maggie and Glen are promptly arrested for possessing classified information.

Meanwhile, Sam buys his first car, a rusting Chevrolet Camaro, but discovers it has a life of its own. Bumblebee leaves at night to transmit a homing beacon to the Autobots, and Sam sees him in robot mode.

Barricade confronts Sam and demands Archibald's spectacles, but Sam and his high school crush Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) are rescued from Barricade and Frenzy (The Decepticon hacker and Barricade's minion, who transforms into a PGX Boombox, and later a Nokia 8800) by the Camaro who turns out to be the Autobot scout Bumblebee (Mark Ryan), who has to communicate through his car radio due to being mute. Bumblebee upgrades his vehicle form by scanning a 2007 Chevrolet Camaro.

Previously sending a beacon to his fellow Autobots, Bumblebee takes Sam and Mikaela to meet Optimus Prime, Jazz (Darius McCrary) Optimus's second-in-command who transforms into a silver 2006 Pontiac Solstice, Ironhide (Jess Harnell) Autobot weapons expert who transforms into a black 2006 GMC Topkick C4500, and Ratchet (Robert Foxworth) Autobot medic who transforms into a yellow 2007 search and rescue Hummer H2 ambulance.

Optimus explains the details of the situation, revealing if Megatron gained the AllSpark he would transform Earth's machinery into a new army and exterminate mankind. Sam, Mikaela, and the Autobots travel to Sam's house to retrieve the glasses, but they are captured by agents of Sector Seven, a top-secret paramilitary government branch, led by Agent Seymour Simmons (John Turturro). The Autobots stop the agents, but they call for backup, who take Sam, Mikaela, and Bumblebee into custody, though Optimus obtains the glasses and uses them to locate the Allspark.

The humans connected to the Transformers are gathered together at Hoover Dam by Sector Seven's director Tom Banachek (Michael O'Neill), who reveals Megatron, still frozen, and the Allspark. Frenzy, having smuggled away in Mikaela's bag, disables Megatron's cryonics system and contacts Starscream (Charlie Adler), Megatron's second-in-command and acting leader of the Decepticons who transforms into a Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor.

Starscream summons Blackout, Barricade, Brawl (The Decepticon demolition specialist who transforms into an up-armed M1A1 Abrams tank), and Bonecrusher (Jim Wood) Decepticon soldier who transforms into a Buffalo H Mine-Protected vehicle, the latter being killed by Optimus on a highway.

Bumblebee is released to protect the Allspark, shrinking it to a handheld size so it can be transported to safety. Megatron escapes the dam after thawing out. Frenzy attacks Secretary Keller, Maggie, Glen, and Agent Simmons in the Dam's radio room, trying to prevent them from summoning the Air Force, but is decapitated by his own ricocheting Shuriken and the group succeeds in calling for aerial support.

A battle between the Autobots and Decepticons breaks out in Mission City. During the battle, Blackout is killed by an airstrike and Brawl is killed by the Autobots and military. However, Megatron arrives, killing Jazz and preventing Sam's attempted escape with the Allspark. Optimus arrives to protect Sam and engages in a battle against Megatron, with the latter getting the upper hand until the military arrives. Optimus tells Sam to push the cube into his chest to ensure their mutual destruction, but instead Sam rams it into Megatron's chest, overloading his spark and killing him.

Optimus salvages a shard of the Allspark from Megatron's mangled corpse. The United States government shuts down Sector Seven and disposes of the dead Decepticons in the Laurentian Abyss. Sam and Mikaela then start a romantic relationship while the Autobots secretly hide out on Earth, and Optimus sends a transmission into space inviting any surviving Autobots to join them.

A brief mid-credits scene shows Starscream escaping into space.
