Editors' Picks: Our Favorites From the Week of March 173 de 9
Reason to Sit Still for 25 Minutes of the Week
We know that "Shrill" is important because it’s Big Issue TV and all, but the show's greatest accomplishment is how quickly it establishes a woman of size as a central and relatable character. In the first few episodes, Annie (Aidy Bryant from "SNL") learns her birth-control approach has figurative holes in it, she stands up to her dickhead editor at Portland's Portlandiest weekly newspaper, she seems to convert her schlubby-bear sex-pal into a potential BF, and she spends time with her weirdo parents and otherworldly cool roommate. (We see you, Lolly Adefope.) Yes, we celebrated every inch and ounce of the Fat Babe Pool Party, but by that episode "Shrill" had already won its campaign for fat-female acceptance. Anyone who can't hang is simply missing out on one of the best additions to your TV habit.
