Editors' Picks: Our Favorite Things From the Week of August 51 of 8
Batwoman of the Week
TV viewers are getting a new Batwoman, and she's going to be played by IMDb fan favorite Ruby Rose. According to reports, The Meg star Rose will debut as street-fighting Kate Kane as part of the CW's annual Arrowverse crossover event in December, in addition to starring in a pilot for a standalone Batwoman series. Reintroduced to the DC comic universe in 2006, Kate Kane is the first lesbian superhero title DC character. This means, if the pilot goes to series, Batwoman will become the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero series. And Rose, who has long been a media trailblazer in the LGBTQ community, will break new ground again, this time on broadcast TV.
